Swansea City have had a bid rejected by West Ham United for their former forward Andre Ayew.

Ayew left the Liberty Stadium in August 2016 for the Hammers, who paid close to £20m for a player who scored 15 goals in his debut Premier League season.

Swansea may need to break their £15.5m transfer record, paid to Atletico Madrid for Borja Baston in August 2016, to re-sign the 28-year-old.

The Ghana international's brother Jordan plays for Swansea.

West Ham are short of options up front after Andy Carroll injured an ankle.

Manager David Moyes may also be reluctant to sell a player to a direct rival in the lower reaches of the Premier League.

We have learnt from the Cup games that because of this ever increasing injury list we have nothing in reserve. The youngsters are hopeless and something needs to be done quickly otherwise we will soon be back in the bottom 3. If Moyes was ever in doubt he now knows for sure that he has inherited a very thin squad and will take quite a lot of rebuilding for next season.

That was so disappointing not to come away with the three points. It's quite a tough gig being a lifelong Palace supporter, the Selhurst faithful don't do things the easy way!

Went fearing the worst but that was a very decent showing. Zab in midfield was a masterstroke. Noble ran himself into the ground and showed the others how to pass a football. Kouyate seemed to benefit from his head injury!

Happy with the point. Not happy with the endless walk back to the tube.

Jordan Hugill, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Preston this season, has joined West Ham for £8m.
West Ham United’s deadline day ended in acrimony and frustration after their director of player recruitment was reportedly accused of racism and unlawful discrimination, and their hopes of signing a midfielder were dashed by Anderlecht refusing to sell Leander Dendoncker on Wednesday night.

A report by the Daily Mail alleged Tony Henry, who was heavily involved in West Ham’s attempts to sign Dendoncker, told agents the club did not want to sign any African players in the transfer window. Asked for a response by the paper, Henry is reported to have explained West Ham wanted to limit their number of African players because “they have a bad attitude” and “cause mayhem” when they are not in the team.

Lord Ouseley, the chairman of Kick It Out, described an email that Henry allegedly sent to another West Ham official and an agent regarding an inquiry about a player of Cameroonian descent as potentially unlawful. Henry is thought to have written that West Ham did not want any more Africans in their squad. Pressed by the paper, he suggested the policy was supported by senior management.

West Ham, who did manage to complete the £8m signing of Jordan Hugill from Preston North End before the window shut, have seven players of African descent in their first team. However, they experienced problems with Diafra Sakho before selling the Senegalese striker to Rennes this week and felt they had no option but to allow André Ayew to return to Swansea City for an initial £18m on Wednesday after the Ghanaian forward made it clear he wanted to leave.

Sakho had not played since 16 December because of a knee injury and Ayew, who joined West Ham from Swansea for £20m 18 months ago, had been out since 16 January with a hamstring problem. West Ham questioned the seriousness of those injuries after both players passed medicals at their new clubs.

The furore capped off a messy end to the window for West Ham, who are four points above the bottom three. David Moyes had made the acquisition of a top midfielder a priority and there were hopes Dendoncker would arrive for £20m.

Having allowed Reece Oxford to return to Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan, West Ham were cautiously optimistic about signing Dendoncker, the 22-year-old Belgian international. They knew the player wanted to join. But while initial talks were positive, talks broke down when Anderlecht pulled out.


This leaves West Ham with only two fit, senior central midfielders. Pedro Obiang is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and Edimilson Fernandes is out with an ankle injury.

Despite bringing in João Mário on loan from Internazionale last week, West Ham also found it hard to improve their options in attack. Attempts to sign Islam Slimani on loan ended when Leicester City’s owners refused to negotiate with them and FC Krasnodar’s Fyodor Smolov turned them down. But their search for a striker led them to Hugill, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Preston this season.

Following the Leicester season, the glass ceiling is back in place. Yes, Bournemouth and Swansea did very well this week but they're light years behind the teams they beat over 38 matches.

What Leicester achieved was incredible and will never be done again. Clubs simply cannot compete with the billionaires at the top who are willing to spend hundreds of millions of pounds every season on players. How well would Guardiola, Mourhino etc do if they had to manage clubs in the bottom 6 on their meagre budgets?

Only today did I learn that my boyhood hero at the club Vic Keeble had passed away at the end of last month. Once you reach a certain age it becomes clear that very few people will have heard of your old heroes!


The prolific centre forward scored 51 goals in just 84 senior appearances in Claret and Blue, including 19 in the Hammers’ 1957/58 Second Division title-clinching season.

A powerful, robust striker with a hard shot and dominant aerial ability, Essex-born Keeble played for Arsenal, hometown club Colchester United and Newcastle United, where he won the FA Cup in 1955, before joining West Ham for £10,000 in October 1957.

The new boy announced his arrival in style, scoring on his debut at home to Doncaster Rovers before bagging a hat-trick in a 5-0 thrashing of Stoke City at the Boleyn ground on just his fifth appearance for the Club.

Another treble followed in an FA Cup third-round thumping of Blackpool and, by the end of his first season in east London, Keeble had netted 24 goals in just 33 games.

The most important of those came at Middlesbrough on the final day of the 1957/58 campaign, when he netted the third goal in West Ham’s title-clinching 3-1 Second Division victory at Ayresome Park.

David Moyes has said that David Sullivan will have less influence over new signings when West Ham United revamp their transfer strategy in the summer.

Sullivan revealed plans to improve West Ham’s recruitment structure in an interview before the 2-0 victory against Watford on Saturday and the club’s co-owner has indicated a willingness to give more control to Moyes after several disappointing efforts in the transfer market.

“Hopefully we’ll find ways of churning it back out and trying to make decisions which are right,” Moyes, West Ham’s manager, said. “They have signed an awful lot of good players here, a lot of good players – Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautovic – so there’s no criticism, but we’re going to set up something that hopefully gives us another look. It’s going to come a little bit away from the chairman. The chairman is going to try to stand aside a bit from it.”

Sullivan has accepted that he needs to invest more in scouting, video analysis and analytics. While he will delegate roles during the restructuring process, he is ready to take a step back once it is in place and Moyes, whose side are five points above the bottom three, expects to have a big say if he agrees to extend his six-month deal at the end of the season.
“We’ve put together some plans,” Moyes said. “The chairman will be heavily involved as well. The hardest thing is probably getting things done exactly right now because there may be people in jobs and we won’t be able to take them away, so we might have to do it in-house a little bit now.”

Moyes, who saw Tony Henry lose his job as West Ham’s head of recruitment following offensive comments about African footballers last month, will consider whether there is a requirement for a figure to bridge the gap between him and Sullivan. “It could be a head of football operations, could be a head of recruitment, could be a director of football,” he said. “But we probably won’t make an appointment like that at this time in the season.”

Little pea was in form and scoring goals but gets dropped.  It's déjà vu piss poor man management means once again we will never see the best of another decent striker IMO.

Shocking performance from the team again away from home. It really is depressing to see such a lack of drive and enthusiasm time and again passing the ball backwards and sideways and defensively there was never a chance once Reid had departed. The squad clearly is not strong enough once injuries occur and we might pay dearly for those past 2 transfer windows.

The Evening Standard are saying the march will go ahead.

A march by fans against the way West Ham are run will go ahead despite a meeting with club vice‑chairman Karren Brady.

The protest, organised by the Real West Ham Fans Action Group,  will take place on Saturday March 10 before West Ham meet Burnley in the Premier League. It will start at Stratford Park and finish near the London Stadium, the source of much of the discontent among a section of the club’s fans.

Baroness Brady met 15 fans from various supporters’ factions at the stadium on Monday. Among the grievances aired by the fans were stewarding problems following the move from the club’s former home, the Boleyn Ground; changes to the club’s badge and the lack of visible signs of West Ham’s history inside the stadium.

The group asked about the possibility of more banners inside the stadium but it was pointed out that approval must be sought from the London Legacy Development Corporation, part owners of the venue.



The fans’ groups described some of the stewarding as lacking in experience and empathy while there was dissatisfaction over the badge and specifically the word ‘London.’

Neither co-owners David Sullivan or David Gold attended the meeting but the club have said they will consider the points raised and have promised to return to the group with suggestions and solutions which, they hope, will improve unity.

West Ham midfield player Edimilson Fernandes meanwhile, has resumed light training following an ankle operation. The Swiss Under 21 international has been out since the beginning of December.

So it's official the clubs have made a healthy profit from last season.

West Ham have announced a record £43million profit from their first season at the London Stadium but admitted they would have made a similar amount had they stayed at the Boleyn Ground.

In 2015-16, the Hammers made a £4.8m loss after tax and today they credited the huge increase in the 2016‑17 season to a £32.6m rise in TV revenue as well as money from player sales.

A significant section of the club’s fanbase was unhappy when the Hammers left their home of 112 years in the summer of 2016 to move to the London Stadium.


The levels of profit revealed today are bound to further anger those supporters, already unhappy at what they perceive as a lack of adequate investment in the squad since the move, despite promises by the board of rising to the ‘next level’ and ambitions of qualifying for European competition.

The Hammers received £119m in broadcasting fees in 2016-17, the first season of the record £5.1billion domestic Premier League TV deal.

The club also reported a profit of £28m on player sales, notably Dimitri Payet, who went from West Ham to Marseille in January 2017 for a reported £26m fee. West Ham would have had little time to reinvest that amount on players then but supporters will want to know why there was not a much more significant spend on players last summer.

The club also revealed that they made an £8.7m profit on the sale of the Boleyn Ground.

In her review, vice-chairman Karren Brady wrote: “As a result of these three factors for the year under review, the group recorded a profit before interest and taxation of £48.5m.

“It is worth noting that the club would have made a similar profit had it remained at the old stadium and the majority of the profit for the year has been generated by the new broadcast agreement and by profit on player sales.”


Brady states that 2016-7 was “a satisfactory year for the club”. She wrote: “All areas of income have increased resulting in the additional revenue of £41.3m this year, taking our turnover to £183.3m which is a club record.”

The capacity for games at the London Stadium is 57,000 - significantly more than the 35,000 at their previous home. Despite the vast difference in size, revenue from ticket sales increased by only 6.3 per cent (up to £28.6m from £26.9m) partly due to the discounts the club offer with West Ham having one of the cheapest season tickets in the Premier League.

A total of £29.7million from the sale of the Boleyn Ground went on paying off two legacy bank loans totalling £14.7m and £15m for the one-off usage fee for use of the London Stadium. The club also pay £2.5million a year - as part of a 99-year lease - to rent the stadium from the London Legacy Development Corporation.

The club also state that net debt, including cash, fell by £21.3m during the 2015-16 season, at the end of which they had no bank debt, replaced instead by short-term lending of £30m and shareholder loans of £45m.

“During the campaign in question,’ the club says it ‘borrowed £42.5million of short-term funds and repaid them all in full.’

The club goes on to say that ‘they have moved away from bank lending completely and now utilises short-term lending and shareholder loans. The vast majority of the money put in by the shareholders has stayed in the business although, as a result of this successful year, £4.2million of the oldest shareholder loans were repaid along with associated interest during the season. “

In addition, the interest on the shareholder loans was reduced to four per cent from six to seven per cent from April last year.

The club say they spent £8.1million on capital expenditure during the season, predominantly relating to the London Stadium (above) including fit-outs of the offices, shop, warehouse, Club lounges and meeting rooms as well as the branding of the stadium, but also substantial investment on new pitches and refurbishment of Rush Green, the first-team training ground.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan said: “The Club is in the healthiest financial position it has been in for years.

“In each of the last two seasons we have broken our transfer record and improvements in our overall financial position will help us to increase investment again this summer.

“I know some of our supporters will argue we have not spent enough in the transfer windows and signed the right targets - I accept that. I have explained in recent weeks we are changing the structure of our scouting and recruitment set-up and will make every effort to improve our performance in those areas in the future.”

The owners have a lot to answer for.

“Correspondence from Newham Council stated, ‘it would be beneficial if we could postpone for a short period to consider a proposal which would be safe for participants, without substantial disruption to the road network.’”

It's all about the re branding (yuk) of the club, ('London' on the badge not East London is just one example)) the lies about the stadium ('seats close to the pitch' Brady & Gold said), the lies about transfers, the low bids for players we never intended to sign, the loan deals for ageing players etc.

At Upton Park there's a memorial ground for former fans. For 2 years the club has been asked to maintain it. They agreed 2 weeks ago under duress from distressed supporters.

Did you know it costs more to buy a pint at HT than before the game? That S&G charge 7% on loans they give to the club? That Brady often refuses to take up full away ticket allocations? That other clubs like CFC & Stoke often subsidise away travel but we don't?

That the club takes a hefty comission when you put your season ticket on ticket trader if you're unable to attend?

That Brady uses her Sun column to say she wants Spurs to win the League. In another article she criticised Leicester for sacking Claudio - when we came to bid for Slimani this January - Leicester  mentioned the article and he went to NUFC instead??

That it took 18 months to replace a right back with the ageing Zabaleta. That we were linked with Lacazette, Carvallho, (both last August) Shelvey, Joe Allen, Dendonker (who we bid 4.5m for anderlecht wanted £10+), Shnairdilin (?) from Everton and we ended up with Hughill from Preston and Evra!!! That we've bought over 35 strikers (I've lost count)who average less than 4 goals each?

A wh fan group decided to organise a protest march.

Some of the leaders of this group are ex-icf.

There is some doubt as to how serious they were about the March as the Plod have said that this group hadn't even received permission for the March to go ahead.

The idea of a protest march was very popular among other fan groups and individuals. They rallied behind the organising fan group in many ways inc. financial.

The Secret Meeting

Behind the backs of the supporting fan groups and individuals the organising fan group held a meeting with Karen Brady.

The Aftermath

The organising fan group declared that the meeting had been a success and that all their demands had been met.  So they were cancelling the march.

The other fan groups were not happy that the organising fan group had unilaterally called off the march.

They planned to go ahead with the march without the organising fan group.

The organising fan group then made threats of violence to some of the leaders of the other fan groups if the march took place without them.

The Irony

Saturdays events must have come as a shock to the owners as they probably thought they had quelled all the fan dissent.

Yes some of our fans may have gone too far but on the other hand i am glad that our fan base isn't as spineless as I thought we were.
