dear lord, just had a look through some of the teams there, cant say ive ever watched a game from this division and while I thoroughly expected it to be overrated, im actually taken aback by the level of player populating this league, can only imagine the money they are on as well

Grant Hanley, Matt Ritchie, Daryl Murphy all starting for the champions elect, talk about absolute cart horses

Just seen Kyle Bartley is playing in the league Laugh

I was under the impression that it was some sort of decent league the way people talk about it in comparison to scotland, it appears to be a glorified scrap heap with smatterings of mediocrity

It has now become utterly apparent why the scotland national team is failing so miserably, players are getting picked for playing well in this football backwater, some of these nomark journeymen who would be unknown in their own country if it wasnt for Strachan picking them for the national team will keep the likes of Stuart Armstrong, Kieran Tierney and and to a lesser extent, Barry Mckay out of the scotland team in the next matches.

Im flabbergasted.... im astounded by the incompetence of my country in being unable to identify the depressing affair, that is the English Championship and below, for the tinpot tribute act, most unsavoury assortment of nomadic mercenaries it so unmistakably is

I wouldnt bet on these mugs with cownterfit

To show up the sad state of Scottish football, if Newcastle were in the Scottish premier, they would beat Celtic to the title. I mean Dwight Gayle would get 50 goals and Matt Richie and Shelvey would walk into that side.
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 March 7, 2017 7:44 PM GMT
Shelvey is the only Newcastle player that would get in Celtics squad and im going on him from a few years ago, could be gone at the game with the majority of that league for all I know, and he wouldnt start ahead of Brown or Armstrong

Matt Ritchie is possibly he worst player ever to don a Scotland jersey
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 March 7, 2017 7:44 PM GMT
never heard of Dwight Gayle in my life, thankfully

Id fancy Aberdeen to give 95% of the championship a doing, even Rangers would give most of them a game
Report R.O.Gibraltar March 7, 2017 7:49 PM GMT
Leading scorer in the championship despite missing many games through injury. Played in the premiership with Palace. Not a Newcastle fan but I think they would certainly be on a par with Celtic. Would put up a much better fight than the rest of that shower in the scottish.
Report Coachbuster March 7, 2017 7:50 PM GMT
Newcastle as good ,if not a  better team then Celtic  imo - (but agree the 'championship'  wtf does that title mean btw ?) is poor  -but not as poor as the SPL  which woiuld make sense because of the POPULATION difference .
Towns the size of Inverness ,Perth and Ross  would be playing in the NATIONAL league  not the second tier

Newcastle would be around 8th- 11th in the EPL  at present
Report tenpins March 7, 2017 7:53 PM GMT
8th to 11th with a weaker squad than last season when they were relegated?
Report mafeking March 7, 2017 7:58 PM GMT
gonna obviously win it now but they've hardly been impressive. lost 7 times already including twice to a terrible blackburn side (i think)
Report Coachbuster March 7, 2017 8:00 PM GMT
it doesn't work like that tenpins .

otherwise Norwich would be first in the division not half way down .

likewise why are Leicester not top ?  and Chelsea not half way .

it's all about morale ,confidence , direction and leadership  .

Newcsatle at the end with Benitez were playing like a top 4 team -  they beat Spurs 5-1 in one of their last games
Report Coachbuster March 7, 2017 8:05 PM GMT
ha ha tenpins - just noticed you are a Sunderland fan  Grin

fair enough  Wink
Report tenpins March 7, 2017 8:16 PM GMT
Sunderland beat Chelsea and then hammered Everton.
Newcastle are the best team in the championship by a distance.
Can't compare that league with the premier though.....as I will soon find outCry
Report Coachbuster March 7, 2017 8:22 PM GMT
next season you could be top like 'castle or down near the bottom -it's a very random league - it's sometimes all down to who has the fight in them  not neccesarily the players on the pitch .

Like all football success ,all built on a bedrock of confidence
Report R.O.Gibraltar March 7, 2017 8:45 PM GMT
I think even the most ardent Newcastle fan will tell you with the current squad they will head straight back down.If Ashley doesn't invest seriously in the summer, Benitez will walk.
Report Bish Bosher March 7, 2017 8:54 PM GMT

Ross Countys stadium has more seats in it than the whole town ffs, they shouldnt even be in the Scottish 4th tier in a town that size, its no wonder the leagues dead.

true, SPL is English league 1 standard at best

A sad state of affairs

Newcastle and Brighton are by far and away the best two teams in the division, and probably both will go up. What will be interesting will be what will happen if they both do. Newcastle don't seem to invest and perhaps won't heavily. Given their financial structure and ownership they are not a proper borrowing club. Brighton are, on the other hand and for right or wrong, a "serious" borrowing club and are sailing close to the wind on debt (which of course will largely be irrelevant if they are promoted). They will borrow heavily, against their infrastructure, their chairman, the ground potential to grow, the agreed American Express franchise, and their huge, growing and planned to grow catchment area/population numbers.  Interesting next couple of years for both clubs.
Report clacherholiday2 March 7, 2017 11:46 PM GMT
lets be honest, most football globally is pretty sh1t, its individual games that throw up belters and they can happen anywhere.

ive seen some great stuff in spain, italy, france and even england this season.  even the championship has had some decent fare, the huddersfield v brighton match recently and the wolves v birmingham game for different reasons spring to mind.  even this past week i thourghly enjoyed the leicester vv liverpool match and the man united v bournemouth game, if you watched just chelsea v west ham and man city v sunderland youd say its the most dull league in the world.

for me the most overall dour league to watch is actually the german, theres something about it that bores me to tears, the whole thing feels too clinical with sh1tty quality.

you have to bear in mind that there are more 'big' clubs in the championship than in the premier league  . Historically at least .

the championship looks a little like the top division from years ago .,missing of course the likes of evergreen clubs Liverpool ,Everton .Man U ,Spurs and Arsenal

it's great to see the likes of Bournemouth,Burnley,Swansea and co lording it for atleast a few seasons .

give it a few years and  a lot of the Championship sides will be back in the big time -it HAS to work like that  . It's very much like gravity . The same way Rangers returned to the top in Scotchland.   Oil /water , cream/ milk etc

it's all about populations and support

As a Villa fan who has to witness Championship football for the first time I've actually been quite impressed by the 'better than expected' standard. Teams like Huddersfield and even bloody Brentford are good footballing team who will give any team in the Premiership a game, barring the top 6.

I believe this is due to some very decent young and upcoming coaches plying their trade down there.

We've spent 70 million which is obscene for that league and are midtable. Dinosaur managers like Bruce and Warnock struggle down there now.

Scotland as a Country has gone.

The SNP has actually written the longest suicide note in history..

You could actually win their league with a Lincoln City or Barrow.

Or come close with a Gretna or Ross County..

I could actually pick ten other people in this pub and we could beat Ross County..

And I have had eight pints and am wearing my best suit....
