then I stopped liking him. A hypocrite, hated being the butt of the joke. It was all cruel and unfair when directed at him. Later in his career when he was dishing it out, it was suddenly all good natured banter and the victims took it in good spirit, even enjoyed going through what he spent the first quarter of the book bleating about.

I've read the book and struggling to think of anything he said that could be considered hypocritical. Unlikely I'd have forgotten the bit where he dished out stick to anyone on the false premise of them being gay I'd say.
