Are you fecking kidding me, I mean are you fecking kidding me, who the fook is he going to motivate and inspire ffs, it's like a 30 year younger version of Roy Hodgson.

Every pundit is singing his praises and he himself reckons he proved a lot to himself showing he come in under pressure and do the bizzo, what played sh1te against a shocking Scottish team and chucked away a 2 goal lead against a Spanish side that's more like the 80's one than the 2012 one.

Are you fecking kidding me...Gareth Souhgate ffs.

no I didn't lose money tonight by the way

must agree; Spain never bothered playing until last 10 minutes; still light years ahead of our headless chickens; Southgate another clueless manager just there for the pay. Can someone tell me what warrants an England manager being so overpaid

Got to agree with u Duffy,England have to look elsewhere but they won't,Gareth looks well outa his depth with this gig should have stuck with managing the younger players for a few more years.Sad

There can't be an England fan alive who is excited by his appointment. The FA are f*cking hopeless.
Report lurka November 15, 2016 10:37 PM GMT
you need to look at the FA. Hodgson should have been fired after the WC. They are appointing yes man after yes man, that is the main criterion for the job. Southgate another of their darlings. Heads need to roll at the FA before the next appointment.

If i cud be bothered i'm sure i cud come up with at least 5 managers ahead of GS for the England job,but that wud be futile as it's a done deal, GS is your next manager.

This, when he accepts, will be Gareth's last managerial post in this country,so the money will come in handy £2 squillions per annum Laugh

I can't really see how much it matters who the manager is - we have a finite pool of players who are considered "good enough" to play for the national side and there is only so much you can do with what is available. Same for Scotland - name me a manager who could deliver with the pool of players they have - there are absolute limits. Until we address the problem properly at levels well below the national side, I can't see much changing. I've been an England fan for 45 years now and when I watch a game like tonight, where we put together a total of 1 convincing move, 1 ok move and a bunch of "substituting activity for achievement" and then when Spain actually decided to turn up and play, it all falls apart, I ask again - who would make a difference?

Very true mark. Looks at Chris Coleman treated as some messiah...nothing to do with the fact he has Gareth Bale of course.

Sean Dyche would be my number one choice,it's so obvious it's laughable, but no i give u Gareth Southgate i ask u you cudn't make it up.
Report pumphol. November 15, 2016 11:40 PM GMT
Its not a case if he's good enough to be manager or even the case of who should be the manager but more of a case of who would want to be the manager.

Going against the grain here, but I like him. Seems like he has integrity. You could get a big name, but the players are just the same. Sean Dyche unproven, though I love what he is doing with Burnley, Eddie Howe, of course, but at least Southgate can grow into the role. He gets my vote.

An absolutely disastrous appointment. The guy just screams too nice weak as piiss failure. Even his goal celebrations are embarrassing overdoing it looking totally unnatural desperate to appear to show how passionate he is.

Tony Pulis - maybe we could bore our opponents into submission.............................
Report HonkyJoe November 16, 2016 9:54 AM GMT
I know you're joking, but there would actually be some sense to putting Pulis in charge. We know he's a brilliant defensive organiser, and he would probably make us much tougher to break down. But in order to be successful, what a Pulis team really needs is bags of pace. He had that at Palace, which is why the team became extremely effective once he had sorted the defence. They could keep them out at the back, but could then bomb forwards on the break and net a goal, or two, or three. At West Brom, the pace is almost totally lacking, which is why they offer so little in attack. England, though, do have plenty of speedy players, so we could probably do relatively well under a Pulis regime. At the very least, we might stop being such a pushover. (The way Spain simply cut straight through us once they started playing was highly worrying.)

It doesn't matter who is in charge, England will always make the finals and then disappoint as their players are shown up for what they really are when they come up against another big team.

just be thankful that FIFA and UEFA need all the big countries at the finals for financial reasons otherwise you might end up in a proper group and fail to qualify.

The allardyce disaster frightened the FA, their next criteria was to get as close as they could to mother Teresa so they could avoid any skeletons in the cupboard, southgate fits that bill down to a tee, as far as inspiring !!!well they don't care about that, a side note, the irony is that they've even managed to pick someone who is a good example of England's penalty shootout failings and put him in charge.Grin

please FA don't appoint another habitual loser in Southgate. If you do you will consign English football to the scrap heap for another 100 years. Anybody who knows anything about football implored you not to hire the mug Hodgson and you still went ahead with the disastrous appointment. We are telling you again don't do it. As your CE knows FA about football and more about crisps I fear this plea will fall on death ears. Don't say you were not warned and when it goes wrong again the CE should call it a day and go back selling Yorkies.
