This is what happens when you put a man with a history of winning Sweet FA and playing 19th century football in charge of a top nation, he has not got a clue what to do, htf can you leave out Jack Wilshere for the likes of Adam Lollana, HENDERSON FFS, Raheem Stealing a living and Jesus Christ...AntonioCry if he is the answer, the question is too complex to solve. Only reason he is in charge of England is because England are desperate.

Brief look at ins and outs.

- Hart, in horrific form with little confidence having not played 1 second of Premier League football - in
- Smalling, 1 minute in 2 games is a shoe in for an international - in
- Antonio ? there are rough diamonds and there is rough.
- Kane, looked liked a tired donkey at the Euro's and has carried into the new season, 0 goals in last 5 games for club and country.
- Jagieka, takes a dinosaur manager to bring back an injury prone 34 year old
- Henderson, what does he do on a football pitch?
- Lollana, runs around alot, no end product.
- Sterling, anonymous for 12 months, 1 good game and you're in.
- Luke Shaw, 3 games in over 18 months but in over Cresswell ?
__

- Barkley? The second most creative and naturally talented English player behind Jack, should be one of the first names.
- Curtis Davis who should have been in the squad years ago?, better than Jagielka
- Dann, what does he have to do get picked? move to Liverpool ?
- Defoe, in much better form than any of the listed strikers.
- Noble, more intelligent and creative than Henderson.
- Danny Simpson, played consistently well 12 months, more so than Clyne.
- Townsend, best winger in the country.
- Deeney, stronger, more effective than Rooney and scores more goals.

Couldn't give monkeys about these internationals.  Should be played midweek but if we must have a 2 week league break inflicted upon us at least pick a proper squad, the likes of Conte, Del Bosque and Lowe would never have dreamed about leaving a player like Wilshere out, the only positive for Sam is that is he is starting from Rock Bottom. England will qualify but will not get out of the group in Russia.

Kind Regards.

If Townsend is the best winger in this country we do have real problems.
Report The_Winner_Takes_It_All August 29, 2016 1:53 PM BST
You're answering your own questions by listing poor players and suggesting replacing  them with even worse players in many cases. What has Wilshire done to deserve a call up? We don't have the quality to begin with.  We are NOT a top nation anymore.

- Hart - Still the best English keeper, regardless of his shocking Euros.  And you want to replace him with?
- Smalling - He has experience and consistency with the aided benefit of playing for a club that has experience in Europe.
- Antonio - give the fella a chance, if he fails then blame Sam.
- Kane - Name a better English striker who you want to replace him with and has scored more goals last season and has played in Europe?
- Jagielka - He has international experience, but it highlights the slim pickings we have for decent defenders.
- Hendo - Even as a Liverpool supporter, this call up puzzles me, he never does anything useful.
- lallana - He has pace, can take players on and create things and international experience.
- Sterling - Pace, can take players on,plays in Europe, creates, and chips in with the odd goal.
- Luke Shaw - Never rated him personally, and I think it's too soon for a call up considering he's done nothing to merit it.

- Barkley - Has great ability, rarely shows it.
- Curtis Davies - oh please!
- Dann - Had the odd decent game playing for relegation battling sides, never good enough for the national side.
- Defoe - Considering his form, and experience, he should be in the squad in my view, age should not matter.  As they say, if you're good enough...
- Noble - Maybe more creative than Hendo, but really offers very little overall.
- Simpson - I don't see much wrong with giving him a call up and being a squad player.
- Townsend - He has impressed me when he has played for England, but rarely impresses me with his various clubs.
- Deeney - England squad player maybe, but deffo not a starter.

I think Sam is more concerned about getting his first win under his belt than anything else.  The last thing any new England manager wants is a bad start, especially with how brutal our papers and media can be. So it does not surprise me that it might seem like it's pretty much the same names as the Euros
Report mesmerised August 29, 2016 2:15 PM BST
The only reason why England in some people's minds are no longer seen as a top nation is because of the cack managers have managed them so badly to a point that you are left with no alternative but to think that way, you are a victim of the FA's incompetence.

Clearly there are some very talented players in there, even in none were top draw, it didn't bother Greece, you only need a good manager to organise a good group well enough in international football because qualification is guaranteed so what you are looking at, is just a 6 game tournament.

Wilshere is pure quality and needs to be in. I don't think you've been watching football in the last few years if you think 34 yo Jagielka, injury prone and fit for the scrapheap is a better alternative that a Dann and Davies...is it because they don't for big clubs? every time I've watched them they've been excellent.

What has Henderson ever done.....EVER?

Rooney offers nothing anymore, Deeney is far more of a worry to defences.

Wilshere is never fit. Why the obsession with him? Weird.
Report The_Winner_Takes_It_All August 29, 2016 6:53 PM BST
Wilshire is injury prone, just like Jagielka, if not worse than him.  I never suggested Jagielka was better alternative than Dann or Davies, personally I think none of them are good enough.  But when it comes down to it Jagielka is better and has more experience.  Playing for "a big club" does make a difference.  I think you will see I also agreed with you that Hendo is useless.  Rooney offers nothing?  Like the great cross he put in for Ibrahimovic to score the other week?  I am not saying Rooney is amazing, but he is better than the rest of the crap and has experience at the top level, it makes a difference.
Report mesmerised August 29, 2016 7:13 PM BST
Will be 36 in Russia and wont be first choice, I don't see the point in persisting with Jags.
Rooney's best days are long gone, time to cut him adrift and bring younger players in, how many international tournaments has he had now, enough is the answer.
Wilshere is the best player England has and is a probable Balloon Door winner should he ever get a full season, you can make at least one exception with him given his age and ability.

A. What has Rooney ever done using his experience with England when it matters?
B. How are younger players supposed to gain experience if you don't give it to the?
C. Rooney's star burnt out years ago, move on people, move on.
Report The_Winner_Takes_It_All August 29, 2016 7:38 PM BST
What has Rooney ever done, let's see.   5 premier league titles, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 1 Champions League winners medal, and a World Club winners medal.  Let's compare that to Wilshire.  2 Fa Cups.  Rooney has the experience and winning mentality that Wilshire could only dream of.  Younger players will get experience when they earn the right to play.  If Rooney is burnt out, it again highlights how poor we are as a national side that nobody better can keep him out the national side.  Wilshire never has been and most likely never will be a top players who wins anything.

great career, great stats, all in the past though, never brought his best form to England.

Anyway, it's not a Rooney debate, he is largely irrelevant going forward.

Will you give this nonsense a rest, Mes. There is no way he was MOTM against that Barca side. More ridiculous hype from ITV. Arsenal scored without having a shot on target. Barca had 68% Possession. All the English media were hyping him up after that match, even asking Pep about him in the press conf afterwards and he said they have lots of players like him in their B team. The Brazil match was a home friendly.

Wenger wants to loan him out because he's not going to get a game and his attitude stinks. And you think Barca are going to take him on loan?

Give Allardyce a chance. I've been impressed with his interviews so far, very honest and certainly talks like he knows what he's doing. The best candidate by far if like me you believe that the England coach should be English. Should have got the job when McLaren did. I liked the article that said he was looking into N'Zonzi's availability shows that he is prepared to "look outside the box". He's done this throughout his career and some of his methods e.g ice baths for speedier recovery and computer tracking of players are now everyday stuff at all clubs.
For what it's worth I wouldn't have picked Wilshire either, a great talent but of no use in the treatment room.

In what other industry would you give such a prominent, highly paid and sought after job to a 60 year old with a track record that wouldn't even see him make a long list let alone a short list for any top company.

Truth is looking at the recent history of English coaches, there's not much to choose from, 1992 last time a league title was one in a top league. That is one damning stat. Need to go foreign, German even, Lowe.

Set up seems amaturishas well, Hodgson's assistant Lewington looked and sounded like a pub coach as does Little Sam, England needs real professionals not chancers.

England qualify with a 100% record to get to the Euros then fall flat n their face against Iceland - a country with a population less than Wakefield.

The UK's cycling team however goes to the Olympics and cleans up with 6 golds, 4 silvers & a bronze. There were only 10 golds on offer. The rest of the teams went mad, said GB must be cheating because they had done FA since they cleaned up at the last olympics!
