Ask a man u fan, not from Manchester ... Why?
They always immediately go on the defensive ''Oh my dad/uncle etc took me when I was a kid.'' All this means is :- your dad/uncle is a w@nker as well |

its called 'reflected glory'.

if you supported man utd 5 years ago then shirley you stick with them now they are rubbish to prove
you were not a glory hunter but loved the colour of the strip/rooneys barnet/ or that you are part of one of the largest supporters clubs in vietnam and the 20 dongs you pay your mobile phone company to see the goals is a bargain |

all about the sky tv revolution innit,in the 80`s they were playing in front of 30,000 and only filled o.t for big cup games, lot of sheeple in this country who latched on to sky`s "we invented football in 1992" and chose man utd, been lots of times to the theatre of merchandise following the once mighty rovers and was nauseated by the amount of coaches from cornwall, essex and kent, not to mention thousands of oriental folk i think they bus them in with discounted ticket offers for groups

"in the 80`s they were playing in front of 30,000 "
Complete bollox how old are you 13 ?? |

sparrow is correct - 'It all started in 1958 after Munich'... and the subsequent Busby Babes.
tommo1000 - is also correct - 'all about the sky tv revolution innit ... lot of sheeple in this country who latched on to sky`s "we invented football in 1992" and chose man utd.' -------------------- Similarly with Liverpool, and the Shankley factor/legacy. Driving back along the East Lancs road, out of Liverpool, after an away match - was amazed at the number of coaches from South Wales that we passed. |

By:
no I actually following football in the 80`s and I can tell you utd were lucky to get that amount for a league game, even arsenal, spurs, liverpool and everton were barely getting that total as well, the thought if getting your head kicked or worse, put a lot of people off,as you`re obviously a sky fanboy, football wasn't the game you know today, you went to a match and got herded into a penned terrace like a cow with the threat of lunatic away fans infiltrating the home end,it was cheaper though and the atmosphere was better,no middle class c***s at the matches in those days

Manchester United were getting 50 55 thousand in the late seventies we have had the highest average attendances for about 40 years bar one or two years.

Glory hunters, it's like with Liverpool, they accrued a fairly big fan base when they were clearing up the trophies and 26 years later people still can't let go and think of them as a big club, Sky are all over them and give them more air time than most, lots of EX Liverpool players now pundits too.
It's simple, you dominate for a fairly long period, you get a load of glory hunters especially in areas where there is no local big team or in London's case which is an exception, because there are so many clubs, supporting Liverpool or United as so many people do, you don't really stand out like a sore thumb if you start supporting them like you would do if you were from Leeds or Newcastle or Sheffield. So many cockneys support United they don't even need fans from Manchester to fill the stadium, only have to look at how busy the M1 gets after a match. |

By:
Op do you expect these united fans to change and support someone else ?

tis true,in blackburns`s short period of dominance we went from an average crowds of 9,000 to 25 thousand in 5 years!!!,used to **** me off cos plastic fans would come in the pub wearing blue and white halfs when a couple of years before they`de have been supporting anyone apart from blackburn

The received media representation of a football supporter is someone who was taken to their local ground at the age of 10 and becomes a lifelong fan of that club
Utter sloblocks A survey was done about a few years back, reported in the book Soccernomics. It said that the make up of a football audience in england was about one third longterm supporters, one third people who were regulars for around a year and one third were in attendance just a handful of occasions that season. There is so much football now you can be a fan of a number of clubs Lots of us are admirers of Barca or Madrid. No doubt we would be counted in the worldwide fanbases by those superclubs. If, heaven forfend, I put a punt on Man U to win the cup final does that make me a Man Utd supporter? There are a lot of supporters of liv and Man U in particular around the country Roy Keane said they were pathetic people with nothing going on in their lives, so they had to project their personality onto the success of a sports club. The antagonism they attract I think is because the media would constantly claim the brilliance of Man utd and lfc, for that matter, when they were dominant. Even though most of us could see they would win an awful lot of those matches playing carp with assistance from the ref. Fluck em |

What an utter laughing stock they were in the 80s
Only thing was, at the time, there was a feeling that someone would get it right one day As proved to be the case Now, not so sure Whisper it, if Mourinho flops.. ...they could be cooked for another 25 yrs |
