Russia wont roll over here, and are a big price draw no bet 9/4 I also fancy both teams to score.

Dzyuba looks very good value to me at 3/1 anytime. Doubling him with Hamsik against Wales at over 3/1 .

I didn't see that much of it but from what I did see I am not surprised Paddy Power were keen to lay Kane in the goalscorer markets. He looked isolated and what's he doing on corner duty? Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't score in the tournament. It is the opening game and nobody wants to lose but unless there is a bit of pack shuffling I think goals will be an issue.

over 1.5 qualifying bet, draw for in-play bet

Well, that was fun. My PC crashed after 10 mins, so I couldn't post and didn't get much chance to mitigate either. But it turned out OK. thought I was going to lose, tbh.  Ended up winning about £130 less about £40/50 on here to lay off some. So, not bad. Quite lucky really.
As far as the game goes, I thought England played pretty well, better than I thought. I am not as negative as some of you lot. Thought they were a bit unlucky, especially hitting the post twice. The thing about Russia is that a lot of them have a long winter braek. So they are very fit and quite fresh at this time of year. that's why they came on stronger 2nd half, and never gave up, although England outplayed them to some extent. England should still qualify easily enough, imo.
Report somemuppet June 11, 2016 10:45 PM BST
you cant blame woy when all the overpaid 'superstars' cant finish big chances or pass the ball properly. England deserved to win and shot themselves in the foot by not been clinical during the game and cute at the end by killing the game.
Report Des Pond June 11, 2016 11:05 PM BST
Not sure where some of the negativity is coming from, tbh.  Overall, I thought they played well enough, just need to be more clinical as you say. People are just demoralised because of the last ditch equaliser, it is always a sickener when you thought the game was won.
Report differentdrum June 12, 2016 12:19 AM BST
Watched the BBC highlights and struggling to see all these great chances. There were a couple of shots straight at the keeper and a good chance for Rooney but unless they missed a lot out that was about it.

Kane appeared on the end of nothing and presumably lacked the confidence to take that free kick which really should have been saved.

At least Shearer highlighted the stupidity of Kane taking the corners.
Report enpassant June 12, 2016 12:23 AM BST
"What's your best quality ?" Kane replied " finishing". So obviously he should take corners !
Report enpassant June 12, 2016 12:25 AM BST
Kane got no service whatsoever and Sterling was the main reason - he was just a waste of a player when it came to a final pass or cross. Vardy should have come on after we scored for Kane as Russia were throwing men forward leaving wide open spaces for Vardy's pace.
Report treetop June 12, 2016 5:44 AM BST
Sterling kept on wasting possession, gave the ball away so many times he should have been subbed halfway through. Kane may as well have stayed at home with that selfishness.
Report sageform June 12, 2016 7:02 AM BST
I could not believe the biased commentary on ITV. I could never see much between the sides and the idea that the superior English team were unlucky is absurd. As usual, Rose, Walker and Dier were good as was Lallana but the rest were very ordinary.
Report BARNEY21. June 12, 2016 7:55 AM BST
A pretty ordinary Russian team should have been right up Englands Alli exc the pun,the commentators got carried away not for the first time jus a reasonable performance.
Report Outpost June 12, 2016 8:30 AM BST
england had a couple of good chances but didn't take them, and russia had a couple of good chances but didn't take them.

there wasn't much between two ordinary teams.

alli had to dive on the edge of the box (as he's done all season) to win a chance for england's goal, which in the end was a gift from the russian goalie.

russia scored with a great header late on which was a gift from the english goalie (hart's positioning is terrible sometimes and he only makes commentators "brilliant" saves when the ball is smashed straight at him)
Report stridingedge June 12, 2016 9:23 AM BST
That's a rubbish assessment tbh

England were not clinical in the final 3rd, of course this is where it matters but they were miles better than Russia, actually surprised me how well we passed it and how confident our players were when pressed.

It's ok to look at chances created but that doesn't always reflect on a game, we didn't create enough clear cut ones from the situations we managed to get into.Composure everywhere bar where it really matters, countless opportunities to play a final pass and make a good chance were just not taken.

Digesting that game, probably one of the best performances I have seen in a tournament from us for a long time but will these players now react to a disappointing draw and show the required mentality,

Ability wise that was a complete mismatch but winning tournament games is more than that you need the mental strength also.

Sterling wasting far too many good situations, if keeping his place needs to start producing end product and kane on the last 2 matches just isn't doing nearly enough.
Report stridingedge June 12, 2016 9:25 AM BST
I'd still worry defensively about us against better teams though it has to be said, this was what really concerned me before the tournament, in the friendlies we could/should have conceded more goals but were let off the hook.
Report cryoftruth June 12, 2016 9:43 AM BST
England did play very well.

The manager deserves some credit. The pressing style and the attacking intent.all good.

However the management of the game was not good. With the Russians tiring, leaving Kane on, and Stirling too was a major error. The Russians have a 37 year old in the middle of the defence. Why leave a tired looking Kane on the pitch, when you have Vardy raring to go? Sturridge scores goals, Stirling does not.

England dominated much of the game and should have won, but if you try to sit on a 1-0 lead and retreat to allow high balls into the box there is always a risk. They were made to pay ultimately for abandoning the attcking method and going negative.
Report sageform June 12, 2016 10:36 AM BST
England were like a horse that travels all over the opposition but still loses or a bowler who often beats the bat but doesn't take a wicket. Results are all that we can judge them by and we have failed in that department since 1966.

When I watched the Slovakia goal against Wales, i thought. " I can see Vardy making runs like that and creating chances for Rooney, kane or one of the midfielders to slot in." He will surely get the chance to run at Wales like the Slovakian player did. I think that England should beat Wales and Slovakia to win the group. No need for pessimism, imo.

Well done opening poster hopefully you took a few quid from bookies.

I haven't read the whole thread. Does anyone know what odds England were before equaliser ?  I'm guessing 1.05 or less cheers in advance.
Report madhatter June 12, 2016 11:46 AM BST
The reason we didn't win was down to rank bad management of the substitutions and Milner playing like a schoolboy.

Russia had to press late on so we take off a player that will force them to be more cautious (Sterling) and fail to replace him with Vardy who would have had the same effect.

Instead we bring on an experienced midfielder to try to shore it all up defensively for a 1-0 victory and invite the Russians to have a go in the last 10 minutes.
Then Milner runs out to close a man down at an idiotic speed, is easily beaten and the rest is history.

Ridiculous use of the substitutes.

Report Outpost June 12, 2016 11:55 AM BST
roy never wanted vardy - he wanted kane and rooney.

vardy was taken because of the feeling back home with the fans and the media that he could score goals.

it would be madness for roy to leave vardy out of the wales match as he knows if he loses that match without vardy then he loses his job.
Report Blackrock June 12, 2016 11:59 AM BST
Have to say thought we played well last night. The equaliser was gutting and we didn't deserve to only draw.

Dissapointed in whoever it was trying to close down the Russian when he carried the ball into the box [ may have been Milner? ].

Stirling getting way too much stick. His electric pace meant we had nobody in support except Kane, who was surrounded by 3 defenders.
Report Des Pond June 12, 2016 12:26 PM BST
Milner at fault partly, I think. And Rose was easily beaten to the cross. Though The guy leapt like the proverbial salmon, to be fair, and Rose is quite short.

I think some folk on here need to watch the matches and see for themselves what is happening during the game instead of just listening to the totally biased commentators who only see what they want to see.

you might see the actual match then instead of the made up version invented by the commentator.
Report BARNEY15C June 12, 2016 1:26 PM BST
Half the time they seem to be seeing a totally different match. Bring back David Coleman (oeeer we can't), he always seemed to say it as he saw it.
Report stridingedge June 12, 2016 1:29 PM BST
I think if you watched that and think the teams were fairly even in terms of ability you'd be in a real minority of neutrals.

Chances created were not as good as they should have been from the final 3rd positions

the passing was good/very good at times

players being pressed did not sh1t themselves and hoof it very often, possession was well maintained.

On a lot of the tripe I am used to seeing where we have looked the same as lowly ranked opposition, yesterday's game was miles from that.

It was your 2 pretty even teams which was way out imo but if that's what you really think then so be it, i certainly don't need a commentator to form my view of things.
Report stridingedge June 12, 2016 1:30 PM BST

Too many very average players, in the side unfortunately, their goal was so, so soft and that is where we are weak.
