Does he have to be in charge for 10 games for Betfair to settle ?
By:
didn't think curtis would last very long but surprising to see them panicking already
amazing that such a previously well run club has totally lost its marbles this season. when you have 3 or more managers in a season there's usually only 1 outcome |

Market seems doubtful!

6. Betfair will NOT be responsible for suspending the market when an official announcement is made by the named club. However, Betfair will suspend the market as soon as it becomes aware of an official announcement by the named club. Customers are responsible for all bets placed on this market at ALL times. Runners will be added on request subject to Betfair’s absolute discretion.

Strange the betting.
If this is a Evans/Houllier 'joint manager' situation then i guess Curtis is gonna reach 10 before this other guy , unless Guidolin is given sole control like Houllier was. But the BBC seems to think he is 'head coach' and Curtis merely 'working alongside' him |
By:
Curtis still 1.25
had been 1.03 though |
By:
The market will settle on who picks the 1st team for 10 league matches. Clearly the market is in doubt about the exact terms of the appointment.
By:
seems like this is the key rule
5. In the event that the named club change the structure of their management team and do not call the appointed individual first team manager, Betfair will settle the market on the individual who is responsible for picking the first team. In the event of any ambiguity over the appointment, Betfair may determine using its reasonable discretion how to settle the market based on all the information available to it at the relevant time. |

By:
Curtis back into 1.17
so he is 'manager' and the other guy 'head coach' ![]() |
By:
How many more games does Curtis need to survive to pay out on here ?
By:
the management is now changed so its up to betfair i guess. whoever they determine is selecting the 11 will be the winner after 10 more games so curtis is back to zero? my bet is a dead heat on this one
By:
Who?
By:
If they are joint managers then it wouldn't be a dead heat as Curtis would reach 10 games first
By:
if they are joint managers then Curtis will not complete his 10 games in the same capacity as he was appointed (ie sole manager) and they would both start another 10 games imo, but i don't think that is the case. This guy appears to have been brought in to help an inexperienced manager, for the moment at least.
I'd get clarification ASAP and it could be that Curtis steps aside completely over the next couple of weeks. He has already hinted at that this week and another loss or two and that could be it. I don't think anyone thought he would still be manager by now and even he seems surprised, uncomfortable even. If Guidolin is appointed permanent manager before Curtis gets to 10 games then that's it. There is no requirement for 10 games for a permanent appointment. |
By:
market suspended and Guidolin matched at 1.2 just beforehand. Swansea say he will have final say on team selection. Are they going to pay out? It is still stated to be 'til the end of the season' (with an option to extend) but that would indicate that he still needs 10 games under the rules?
By:
Looks like a mess to me. Betfair may need to tread very carefully, although I sense they will do what suits them and leave it open for another ten games of Guidolin to generate some more volume and hence commission.
The official announcement does not suggest interim or temporary, so there is grounds for settling the market on Guidolin today, even if behind the scenes his contract is only 5 months long. However it does also insist on calling him head coach, and Curtis manager, which muddies the waters. This is somewhat negated by the clear announcement that the team picking falls to Guidolin. If I was a betting man , I reckon they leave it open and set the clock to zero, but if I was a lawyer, I would settle today on Guidolin! |
By:
the Swans statement says 'he will work alongside interim manager Alan Curtis until the end of the season, although Guidolin will have the final say on team selection'. The rules say that will not constitute first-team manager as it's described as 'to the end of the season'. They shouldn't be paying out on Guidolin, they are prob biding their time before they decide what to do.
By:
Actually on second read, I cant see how they dont settle on Guidolin.
Rule 5 states that the market refers to the person who picks the team (so ignore any titles or names), hence Guidolin Rule 1 (and hence rule 2) does not apply as there is no mention of interim, temporary etc Rule 3 covers the fact that it may only be a 5 month contract, and that this can be discounted. |
By:
'until the end of the season' says rules 1 and 2 apply. Agree it's a mess
By:
Fair point lurka, although I took that rule to refer to the official job description, "interim manager" "manager till the end of the season", rather than any old mention in the text of the whole announcement.
My read of the announcement very much suggests to me that they are re-iterating the fact that Curtis is only there till the end of the season, rather than the position of Guidolin. ie he will work with Curtis till the end of the season, and without him after that. The last part referring to the review at the end of the season confirms that he is likely to be sole manager if he keeps the club up. |
By:
I backed Curtis at 28-1 last week to be next manager to leave with skibet, i hoping they pay out as the new guy has final say on slectio which seem to be the important point
By:
Good point mats, you could be right there. The suspension indicates they will pay out on guido

I'm excited to announce the beginning of a new professional adventure at @SwansOfficial, with Francesco Guidolin. Dreams come true. He describes himself on his twitter profile as Swansea Assistant Manager. So we have an interim manager, a head coach and an assistant manager but no actual 'manager'. LOL |
By:
might be good news for TWP ^^

By:
market unsuspended
By:
Jeez this is probably the most confusing manager market ever.
If the new guy picks the team Skybet should settle that 28/1 imo |
By:
was looking at a nice profit on curtis. but this guy coming out of nowhere looks to be a great fillip. been a great market i hope betfair dont make a meal of it and void it or something like they often do with the boxing. it seems they havent a clue how to run things these days
By:
As Mafeking says , can't see that Swansea have played this too well.
They have done what Newcastle did the n appointing John Carver , and what Fulham did in appointing Felix Magath . Simultaneously. |
By:
Not sure about other bookies but Betfair consider Guidolin to be in charge as he has final say on the team. Still needs to complete 10 games to win. Curtis will reset to zero next game as no longer in control, could argue he has "left" but good luck getting it paid out.
By:
did you ask them that? Guidolin hasn't yet picked a team
By:
Yeah that's what customer support said. It is a tricky market but would appear the new guy will win unless Swansea change their mind again. And you're right - his count to 10 only starts next game.
By:
skybet have settled on the 28-1 on curtis to be next manager to leave. Happy days, only placed the bet on friday!
By:
WOW TWP that was a ridiculous price. At that price i thought they would say that Curtis wasn't appointed as 'manager', had to be and then had to be fired. WD

By:
Yeah nice one
