Hard to know how this will go. Ireland with a bit of luck can hold out and maybe grab a 0 0 or at worst a 1 0 loss and have something to play for next Monday.
Without some luck I do think though a lay of Ireland or laying them to keep a clean sheet is a good bet as Bosnia will have a few good chances.
What do you think ?

Tough game for Ireland bosnia beat wales 2-0 but did lose to Cyprus at home. I think Ireland lay would be the safest call.

Ireland without shane long,john o shea and walters so tough to keep a clean sheet and with murphy upfront goals will be hard to get imo
Also have to use 2nd keeper randolph as shay given injured... They will give 100% effort though , dzeko,pjanic will be dangerous |

O'Neill should have gone all out to score 2 in Poland but instead lined up like there were points at stake and only went for a second with 10 mins left after a gift of a penalty. And now he's saying we have to 'keep the tie alive' like he's hoping not to get a hiding. What's harder to do, score 2 in Poland or beat a similar side over 2 legs, injuries aside?
Really shouldn't be afraid of sides like Poland and Bosnia but always line-up like we are. Bosnia look a good price around evens with that mentality and the injuries, defence has never played together. Would expect anyone who can pass a ball to be dropped. An early goal and it could be 2 or 3 but hopefully can keep it level for as long as possible or somehow nick an away goal. |

maybe, either way not trying to play some football against decent sides is pointless long term. Will just lead to the same thing that happened under trapattoni the last time we qualified, getting hosed by everyone. Yes, Ireland are shít but mainly because of the way they play. There are no gibraltars or georgias at this level now and every decent team can carve our defence open and create chances if you invite them on for 90 mins. These sides have better players but there aren't many great sides at international level, they don't train together day to day. Bosnia and Poland are not like Argentina or Germany. You could see that in the last 10 mins against Poland, but that wasn't enough time to have a proper go at them.
No quick fix but this type of football is geared mainly to keeping a manager in his job for as long as possible. Delaney has presided over how many managers who have played this type of muckball now? A player like Hoolahan should be the first name on the sheet in midfield but he gets dropped every time for Whelan. There is no point in getting to finals playing like this. |

The North were in a crap group. The Republic don't have any decent players either.

we were a goal away from finishing second and if we played any sort of positive football we could have taken more than a point off scotland and the poles. I'd have McCarthy back in a heartbeat. You don't need top players for a half decent side. eg If you drop your only creative player for Glenn Whelan you are not putting your best foot forward. We don't play a game which gives us a chance of beating group rivals, even at home. NI play a game which gives them a chance of picking up 3 points instead of 1. They beat hungary away and that's what won them the group.

I agree with most of that, and at least earlier in his managerial career O'Neill was renowned for getting more than the sum of the parts out of his teams. He may have lost some of that but the players are, for the most part, pretty awful.

once john robertson left as O'Neill's right-hand man he wasn't the same as a manager. Some celtic players said they only saw O'Neill on matchdays.

I give Ireland a 60% chance to qualify, I Think 1-0 or 2-0 tonight and then 2-0 or 3-0/3-1 at home for Ireland. Bosnia while are improving in form since the start of the campaign under the new manager, they are not as good as the 2012 side that featured Misimovic, who held the record for most assists in one season in the Bundesliga, next to Pjanic...a combo which could tear open any defence, they scored against almost every "big team" they played (spain, germany etc).
Misimovic has retired now and Pjanic has taken on more responsibility in midfield, but Eden Visca has been a revelation and was sensational against Israel. Instead of effortlessly slicing teams open, things are a bit more laboured but any team that sits back against Bosnia always pays the price. I see a similar outcome here to the Wales game IMO and then Ireland qualify at home. |

hope so Stringer but we haven't scored 2 against a decent side in a competitive game in over 2.5 years, so 3 is a bit of a leap of faith but fingers crossed. we have no choice really but to sit back tonight because of the injuries
