I am not actually sure Klopp will see it that way, and could see him taking the Liverpool job.

But if he goes to Liverpool then gets hounded out because he doesn't finish top 4 for a few seasons which will happen if they don't, then he will never get any of those jobs probably. His reputation isn't so cemented like Ancelotti's that his star wouldn't fade whatever happens.

I don't actually think it is as big a 2 way market as the market seems to think. The market basically says everyone else no chance right now. The market is making Klopp or Ancelotti around 1.08 right now. That is terrible imo.

Surely those USA freaks that allegedly run the Club have someone to appoint post haste...

If they have not what are the transfer committee doing....

It is a sorry state of affairs if a so called club that is bigger than Bayern Munich sacks one sad sack and does not have a replacement in the wings...

It is even worse when some on this forum that claim to know what is going on at the Club cannot tell us who it will be..

Which is exactly why it's a huge risk from his point of view.

If he just sits it out, he almost certainly gets one of the Bayern, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City jobs. Many of these have more attainable expectations/less likely to be hounded out (Chelsea the obvious exception).

If he goes to Liverpool, doesn't get top 4 for a few seasons. He will just be linked with mid-table German and English clubs after that.

True , but that might not put Klopp off the job.

If he is the sort of character with total self belief then the consequences of failure just would not be a factor in his decision,

But it's hard to succeed at Liverpool. What is success at Liverpool. Rodgers was close to winning the title a few years ago, and now is close to being viewed as a laughing stock. So winning the league, hardly likely is it? Actual success in terms of the big trophies at Liverpool is very hard whoever is manager, thus it's hard to add to his CV there.

And I don't disagree with that Tobermory. From my impression of Klopp, it wouldn't surprise me if he does take the Liverpool job, but I'm not convinced it's in his best interests to do it.

Ancellotti s reputation is secure.

If he failed at Liverpool , people would just conclude that Liverpool are forever going to be a 2nd rate club .No one would suddenly think he is useless.

He could well take the job imo

A + is he is not someone who likes to micromanage stuff and get into rows about what players he wants , so would fit in to the structure Liverpool have . Klopp i dont think would like this too much.

I can't buy into that at all, Ancelotti has only ever been used to working with real quality, he's not going to accept signings like Lallana, Inggs or Can, all top managers want to buy their own players, not have players shafted on to them, he is no yes man.

It's not about whether people's perception of him will change as much as it's about his own pride, a great record wherever he's been, wont achieve much with this Liverpool squad and they've already spent a lot of money this season.

Trying to assess the clubs thinking by looking at the market....

If thye sacked Rodgers because Klopp had already agreed then he would be about 1.04 so doubt that has happened unless they have watertight security against leaks

If no one knew anything youd think Klopp would not be as short as 1.39

Most likely i would guess they sacked Rodgers on the assumption Klopp would take it and are now awaiting a response from him ,with Ancelotti the next call if JK turns it down

Carlo Ancelotti and Frank de Boer will also come under consideration but Klopp is viewed as the ideal replacement by Anfield’s hierarchy.

The 48-year-old German has been out of management since he stepped down at Dortmund back in May. He announced that he was taking a sabbatical but has made it known in recent weeks that he’s ready to return and would relish working in the Premier League.

gotta say i wasnt overly impressed with ancelottie at real.

they have a very very expensive squad yet last season in many games lower teams were able to match them in midfield for instance.
you can argue that being open will mean more space for their attack but when you look back at the teams he managed all are of that profile where they were roughly the top side in the division anyway.

dont think its a very good fit.

klopp took a side from near bankruptcy and implemented a system which others have now followed.
they did produce some very good players although some who were deemed to be very good flopped when they left....lewandowski the exception.
but overall it does point to his system being the most important thing.
think the year they struggles they had many players who had come back from multiple or long term injuries adn trying to get them fit again all at once told.
imo woudl be a very good choice.

conte would be interesting.

my choice would be either schmidt or berizzo.

schmidt because he has taken klopps "master plan" and improved on it...imo he is a level above klopp tactically from what i have seen.

berizzo because he took enriques side and improved on it....and in doing so makign them the most attactive footballing side to watch on the continent....they wont win things ebcause they cant compete financially and they need a top drawer strike and 2 quality centre backs......but if berizzo stepped into a side with better quality i think he could really make his mark.....woudl have to up the passing quality in the club though and we do seem to have one or two too many who like to hog the ball rather than link it enough.

If it attracted the top players, then Robben, Vidal, Lewndowski (throw in Ronaldo ane Messi too) et al would all be playing in the Prem.

They go to Bayern because they are paid well (if not the top wage), will be assured to win the league every year, and under Pep have a chance to win the Champions League, with little to no chance of them ever not qualifying for next seasons CL.

Don't know where this Bayern don't pay top wages is coming from. Pretty sure their top earners will be on more than Liverpool's. Plus that's an expensive squad wage wise. There's no mega stars on 300k a week, but I imagine they have a lot of earners around the 100k-150k a week mark. Bayern Munich's average yearly salary is supposedly only topped by PSG, Real Madrid, Man City, Barcelona and Man Utd.

Bayern have one huge competitive advantage, that the majority of top German players want to play for them, when you take into account Germany is also arguably the strongest footballing nation of all, that's quite an advantage, and while not paying the mega money of maybe a select few clubs beyond them, they pay enough to get these players to stay.
Report Ted Brogan • October 5, 2015 3:58 PM BST

I highly doubt they are on that little. You can get different sources estimating much higher than that, upwards of £150k on some of their players.

Sporting Intelligence say their average earner (no idea how many players they use for this) is on £4.47m a year, which would suggest their top earners on more than that.

In general wages are an area of contention, but Luca Toni's wages from his time at Bayern are known due to a court case where it was revealed, and he was on 14.5m euros a season from 2007-2010. I highly doubt their top earners have nearly halved while their success on the pitch has gone up many fold.

The difference is this, those players he signed at Chelsea were merely signed as squad players, fringe players to add to a squad already filled with a core group of players who were capable of winning trophies, which they did, if he were at Liverpool, he wouldn't have a core group of players that could challenge for anything like he did when he walked into Chelsea, so he's hardly likely to accept signings in the form of your Lallana's, Can's and Jo Allen's as main first team players, and that's the kind of level of player Liverpool, a non CL team can attract, Torres however was a recent European and World Champion, one of the best players on the planet at the time until Chelsea got their hands on himLaugh, can't find any direct quotes from Ancelotti where he stated he didn't want him either apart from this report which said he wasn't foisted upon him http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/6732919/ancelotti-torres-not-a-gift

The reason why he lasted so long at Milan was because he had the players to win two Champions League titles with personnel including Nesta-Madini-Gattuso-Pirlo-Kaka-Seedorf-Inzagi, Costacuerta-Rui Costa-Shevchenko.........now I don't know about you, but if those players were given to me I wouldn't rock the boat eitherLaugh

The main point is, given the groups of players he's worked with, and the money he's had at his disposal and the fact that the clubs he's been at have all had the Champions League lure to attract much better players tells me he wont fancy the job.
Report Marcce • October 5, 2015 9:58 PM BST
During his last few years after his 2nd CL win with them, that Milan squad was getting older and older with very few decent signings brought in to rejig things. Their league form was generally poor. The year after that CL win they didn't win a home game till the January and to be honest if you're accepting Flamini on a free and Senderos on loan at a time when you haven't qualified for the CL then you're pretty much going along with anything.

Regarding Chelsea, Torres had been awful for the 6 months before we signed him. It was a Roman signing. So much so that Ancelotti was told to start him against Liverpool for his debut when his intention had been to put him on the bench. The summer he joined us he had pretty much convinced Pirlo to join us. The deal didn't happen because Chelsea wouldn't pay what Milan were asking. Any new manager joining a club wants to bring in some of his own players and he wasn't able to do that. Despite that there wasn't a grumble from him.

He's one of my top 3 favourite Chelsea managers but you want a company man for your club then Carlo's your man.
Report mesmerised • October 5, 2015 10:54 PM BST
You said Torres was foisted upon Ancelotti, but he denied it and there are no direct quotes from him, and now you're saying Roman told him to start Torres v Liverpool, I don't suppose you can find a quote there instead? still nothing official to say he never wanted him at all, just rumour and hearsay Berlusconi built up massive debts which why they had to flog big players at the time like Kaka and Ibrahimovic to pay them off, I wouldn't have walked when Arsenal cast offs were offered either if it meant no fat pay off cheque with a resignation, he tried to publicly humiliate him into leaving by stating his tactics were directly responsible for Milan not winning the league. He did however want Ribery and Alonso as he said in his book, one stayed in Munich, one went to a much bigger club, MadridWink

Though this tedious point on whether an a 55 year old is a yes man or is so dull I'm barely conscious replying, reminds me of something I read not so long ago reposted somewhere.

my guess is benteke.as a pressing system wont be able to carry more than one luxury player....and it may have to carry none....so it could mean both benteke and sturridge having to put in serious shifts from now on and sharpen up reading the game.

we will see if we have any prima donnas left.

Exactly, the lazy £ grabbers will be found out asap and sold

Seems klopp if he gets the job will be a bit more upfront and ruthless with players which is whats needed , with attackers like firminino, sturridge, benteke, ings he should get a " winning attitude" going
Report G1_Jockey_4 • October 6, 2015 4:41 PM BST
firminio and ings would fit his system......firminio played for hoffenheim who use it....ings is tailor made with his attitude off the ball.

sturridge and benetke are low quality pressers but he could use a luxury option up top like he did with lewandowski but then sturridges link up play will have to match imo....simply dont see both in at the same time under klopps system unless he decides to scrap the system which made him.

coutinio can press but gets tired.

lalana is the one likely to benefit from the system because he played under pottechino who used a variant of it.

in the back line i think moreno is a worry as he isnt as balanced a fullback as smeltzer....also no way are sakho or louvren the standard of subotic or the style needed.

we dont have a hummels who imo was their most influential player.......that should be our first signing ....hopefully.

G1 did he not try to sign Benteke when he was at Dortmund or did i dream that???
Report G1_Jockey_4 • October 6, 2015 4:45 PM BST
dont know but imo the two of them together will be a big no no as the pressing game will have a hole in it.

Yes i can see your point

Klopp was never after Benteke. But he did spend 118M on, amongst others, these beauts:

Mkhitaryan 27.5M euros
Sokratis 9.9M euros
Immobile 19.4M euros
Kampl 12M euros
Ramos 9.7M euros
Sahin 7M euros

Die Linke. The issue I have is that Klopp appears to have always been a coach and not got involved in choosing players. And Liverpool's big problem appears to be signing the right players. Rodgers did a good job with decent players.

So we actually need the people who were identifying the good players at Dortmund as well as him. Even the best Manager cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

mes not going to clog up this thread with petty off topic arguments.

There are examples around this forum where I've given information for people to make up their own minds up as to whether I was "in the know" or not.

Not everyone on here is a raving fantasist and on that note I'll leave you to your country mansion with your dozens of models feeding you grapes or whatever it was.

In Germany a trainer goes to the manager and says "I would like X, Y and Z". That's the end of their input. The manager takes over responsibility and decides which, if any, of X, Y and Z are to be signed. He then deals with all aspects of the transfers from initial inquiry to signing on the dotted line. If the signings turn out to be dogsh1t he is the one who is hauled over the coals.
