Maradonna was a bit before my time. The rest I've seen pretty much the entirety of their careers bar the early stages of Bergkamp. An honourable mention for Tony Adams, best ever centre half in the Prem and better than the acclaimed Madini who was afforded the luxury of playing for better managers in better teams in slower leagues to help him look better, win more and last longer.

I honestly don't think any player that has played in the Premiership would be in it. It is just what is brainwashed into the UK Viewer. Well, some of them.

Adams was a decent centre-back, for sure, but no more than that, just another Englishman routinely exposed at International level. The year before he won his first title at Arsenal, he had been made to look second-rate at Euro 88.

It's not about goals, the thread is not called the top 10 goalscorers of all time, it's called which footballers are in your top 10, and Bergkamp had everything in his locker as a footballer, he was too good a passer/assister for him to made the outright striker which is why he played off either Wright, Anelka or Henry.

Understand that but how can 'one of the best players in the world' only average 8 goals a season in a forward role???

He was 31 by the year 2000, and was there to provide goals. Only played more than 30 games in a season twice  out of 11 due to injury or age considering he was 36 in his last year, all players in their mid-thirties go into decline, at his best he was the best. And given how many goalscorers Arsenal had in the team it was never an issue, Henry, Pires, Ljungberg, Wiltord, Anelka, Overmars all score bucketloads. He was the visionary in the team as corny as that may sound.

Why do people insist on calling the Brazilian Ronaldo the 'REAL' Ronaldo?

I can understand it when Ronaldo was in his early days at Utd diving and not doing much else. He was a poor imitation of the legendary Brazilian goal machine.

But since then he, along with Messi, have been the two most outstanding players of this generation.

You can't compare both Ronaldo's ffs, the Real Ronaldo, the original one, was more skillful, more agile and more naturally talented and scored higher quality goals, Crissy, as some painfully love struck dozy tarts on this forum call him has got better and better but that's largely down to power, flat track bullying and dead ball situations. There is not a lot of finesse to his game.

The current Ronaldo is a better player than the original.

This is actually very difficult. In cricket you at least have averages which don't give you the full story but at least give you a shart. I know you now have stats in football but they are a recent development and apparently last year highlighted Lovren as the best defender in the Premier League

Messi is by far the greatest in the consistent brilliance and unshakeable temperament he brings to all games, and I suspect that all managers would pencil him in first on a Friday night. But Maradona won a World Cup on his own and damn near pulled off the same trick in Rome four years later. Platini said that Maradona could make an orange obey him as well as Zidane controlled a football but I think there was jealousy. Jordi Cruyff, bless him, was about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. But imagine having Johann as your father!

I thought Peter Shilton was the best goalie in the world for a number of years.  Funny how we struggle so much in that department now when 30 years ago we possibly had 5 of the top 10.

The greatest footballer, Jimmy Greaves.

Greaves, before he got meningitis in his mid 20s, which he always felt took away a little of his blistering pace was as good as Messi,not just a great goalscorer but nobody could glide past players in quite the way Greaves did, he would turn and beat 3 or 4 players and pass the ball into the net, there has never been a player quite like him.

He would have struggled in today's game.
