Hi Betfair friends,

To Betfair Admins: I'm not intending to spam, I just want to raise awareness of the Nepal Earthquake Relief. I've only posted in the Chit Chat, Politics and the Boxing forum (for obvious reason :-) The Football Forum is the last  and that's definitely it! Please contact me personally if this is an issue.

Sold on the subject line? Donate straightaway: gofundme.com/bfnepalearthquake

I've been a long time Betfair member (see my profile: since 19 May 07), and a responsible one too. I noticed Betfair haven't come forward to raise an appeal for the Nepal Earthquake Relief. So I'm coming forward instead to reach out to the good hearted people of Betfair, whom have had fun reading and exchanging posts on the forum, to take a moment from what will be a great May Day Bank Holiday Weekend for many, and think of the destruction the Nepal Earthquake has done to the people and nation of Nepal. In addition, as many of you will know Nepal has provided the British Army with soldiers of great distinction, The Brigade of Gurkhas, for now 200 years! It's the least we owe.  Thankfully, my relatives are the lucky ones, but they have lost their homes, and now live in tents. And thousands are dead and have nothing.

I and most certainly the people of Nepal would appreciate greatly, if you could donate to this UNOFFICIAL BF Nepal Earthquake Relief, dig deep, and perhaps on any winnings you make, consider making a contribution, every penny counts.

All proceeds will go towards GMIN UK*, who I have followed since they started, they are one of the most transparent charities working in Nepal that I have seen, all funds go straight at the grassroots of Nepal, and not through to any government establishments as we all know too well what happens there.

Thank you and enjoy your bank holiday weekend!

*About GMIN UK

GRASSROOT MOVEMENT IN NEPAL UK is a sister organisation of GMIN which is a 501 (C) 3 non profit organisation registered in the USA. We support and initiate grass-root movement focused on bringing sustainable, social and environmental change in Nepal. Established by a group of energetic and dedicated individuals from the U.K., we aim to address the pressing issues of Nepalese society using local knowledge and collective intelligence.

Where are funds going?

Whilst the large organisations such as Oxfam and Red Cross have based their relief efforts in Kathmandu, we are working with local organisations closer to the epicentre of the earthquake. We have established contacts in Pokhara who have been travelling to villages in nearby Gorkha and are working with local officials and Nepal Police to provide aid to the victims.

I donated a fraction of the amount I bet today. That was quick and easy and a great cause. Good on you mate, hope the forum rallies round.

Well that's one way to get a thread removed!

@scandanavian_haven - that would be mean! I'm sure Betfair don't mind.
Report wellinformed May 2, 2015 1:39 PM BST
@marychain1 - much appreciated!! I hope others here follow suit.

Thanks to Paul H. for his donation, the people on the ground will highly appreciate it. Let's keep going Betfair, let's make it £10,000. The cash will go directly to people entrusted working on the ground.

£530 raised so far, let's keep going Betfair!

What are you going to spend your 530 quid on? on yer bike ya thieving con merchant
Report wellinformed May 4, 2015 12:53 AM BST
acquiesce12 - how dare you call me a con merchant! If I'm surfing this forum in the comfort of my own home using my own dedicated Internet connection, I do not need to extort the public. I couldn't sleep at night doing that. This money is going straight to GMIN UK, good folks who work on the ground, reaching out to remote areas where relief is yet to be even broadcasted fully by the media, or reach by aid teams. They are organising their own vans and driving to the places where aid workers have not reached. You want to see what they are spending the money? Take a look, this was yesterday: http://postimg.org/image/3w2vtg40j/. Alot of items are being sent to Nepal, but some items are not currently urgent. They are working on the priorities of these remote communities, and tents is on the top of the list.

It's up to you if you want to donate, but I hope you reconsider my intentions.

Many Thanks.

Pushing the appeal again today, yet another major Earthquake at 7.4 on the Richter scale in Nepal :( I've wired £500 over to GMIN UK, they are very grateful and it will go directly into getting much needed tents, food and essentials to get people back up on their feet. I've put the aim down to a £1000 to be more realistic, but do come and surprise me Betfair fans!

GoFundMe warns potential donors saying  “There’s no way to 100% guarantee that a user’s donation page contains accurate or truthful information.” And, “donors should only contribute to users they personally know and trust.”

I've never noticed him as a poster before.
I always steer clear of things like this preferring to only use known trustworthy charities.

I think so. learner backing him up. Also learner been drawing attention to himself with multi repeated posts.

i very strongly suspect this is 'account warming' - notching up a few posts every now and then to simulate 'normal posting behaviour'.

why didnt you just fkin ask richard branson for 10k. that would save all the fkin costs and time of raising 10k

Who does Nepal Earthquake relief play for? On a serious note don't trust this one bit.
Report trilby22 July 28, 2015 1:48 PM BST
British Red Cross, Salvation Army and The Samaritans are my charities of choice.

Of the three, I trust BRC the most.

Anyone who tries to con people out of money for false charity is most deserving of a swift (and solid) kick to the groin.

An unknown person on a gambling site asking for money.  What could possibly be wrong with that?
Report akabula July 29, 2015 6:47 PM BST
Yes but he's told us he's since donated the money.
He must think we're as big a mug as him.

Just had a look at this Gofund me site,Jesus wept there's even a person asking for donations for vets treatment of her/his rabbit, someone else wanting funds to carry on with their uni studies, does nobody vet these people to make sure they are genuine or is it just a free for all site.

The facebook page attributed to this charity is frequently updated.  If I were to speculate I'd say its much more likely to be on the up and up than not.  Memory isn't the greatest but from what I recall I believe I've seen this poster around awhile.  Isn't like he/she just signed up to tout this organization.

imo if you are donating its much better to find a local/smaller charity to give money to than a well established branded charity.
Report akabula July 30, 2015 6:34 PM BST
You've a good memory then Horangi as this poster has hardly posted in his time here.
Why would you go through a stranger on a gambling forum to donate to a charity?
Other than him saying so what proof is there that any cash was raised and, more importantly, handed over?
Report desperatemunter August 1, 2015 4:36 AM BST
complete con is odds on.  As already speculated.
Report Horangi. August 1, 2015 1:29 PM BST
Certainly wouldn't bother donating to the poster's gofundme page as its rather unnecessary (and yes quite suspect as I see no explanation why one would choose this route) but the charity itself is probably legit imo.
Report wellinformed August 24, 2015 1:04 AM BST
How much do you dare to put down? I'll prove I donated the amount I extracted from gofundme right here. And thanks @Horangi, no other Betfair aliases are worthy to mention.

This is a copy and paste from the gofundme account:

£27.38 deposited on 10 May 2015
£462.80 deposited on 9 May 2015

OK, I could have just typed that in, but anyone with a gofundme account, knows that is the format transactions are printed as. Second, the amount doesn't equal £530, to explain that, gofundme sadly took a cut. But I topped that to £500 from some trading in here, and probably some of my own money. As for the actual transfer to the charity, I'll need to pull that from my bank account, and a certificate from the charity. Again, I doubt it's enough to satisfy everyone, but I think that's the nature of charity unless you carry out charity work directly yourself.
Report sonofshinner August 24, 2015 7:18 AM BST
could you proove your trading on here.

Report DIE LINKE August 24, 2015 10:22 AM BST
The whole thing is highly dubious as the OP receives the money to pass on to the charity. Even more ridiculous that marychain and the other chap's donations were swallowed up by the site's fees. When you click on "sign up" on gofundme it clearly states "GoFundMe's fee is 5% from each donation you receive." The moral of the story - always donate directly to the charity.
