He thinks so.

When Barnes was manager of Celtic, they lost to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. In a two-team league, he managed to lose 8 of 29 matches in charge and he was sacked just 6 months after taking charge. Barnes' next job was manager of Tranmere Rovers. He only managed 2 wins in their first 11 matches and he was sacked again following a 5-0 loss to Millwall - this time only making it to October.

John Barnes' win ratio at Tranmere was 21%. Since then he has failed to get another job as a football manager. Les Parry had a win ratio of over 30% during his time as manager of Tranmere Rovers, far superior to Barnes' record, yet he too has failed to get another job as a manager since being sacked by Tranmere.

If racism is responsible for Barnes not getting another managerial job I wonder why the white Les Parry has failed to get a job since leaving Tranmere?

Someone on a different thread made an excellent point regarding black managers and the lack of somewhere. I believe it was after Les Ferdinand's comments in the week.

It was along the lines of, perhaps he would like to ask why the likes of Blissett, Bright, Carlisle, Collymore, Desailly, Dublin, Earle, Ekoku, Henry, James, Kamara, Parker, Rosenior, Wright and Yorke, Salako and Elliott all prefer the TV studios or radio stations rather than going for a manager job somewhere.

Hardly surprising club bosses are reluctant to hire them when they get the race card slammed down their throats and not through a manager's ability or lack of. Imv, they aren't helping themselves with these comments.

i never remember these players playing the race card when they were cashing their 50  grand a week pay checks, jesus a black guy on minimum wage must be carrying some baggage

He only got the Celtic job via the old pals network i.e. Kenny Dalgleish

The Sun headline probably still haunts him

'Super Caley go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious'

Lets be honest a vast amount of white people are racist, either overtly or behind closed doors like Malkay Mackay. John Barnes was racially abused as a player and he probably feels rightly or wrongly that he hasn't been given a fair crack at management. You can understand why.

Maybe you can, but a lot of people of all colours are racist, some extremely violently, and it's not a white thing. Rwanda for instance, didn't see many white people killing their neighbours there.

Yes people from all different backgrounds can be racist.

John Barnes was a pitiful excuse for a football manager and whatever colour he is what Chairman would give him a job after he has ballooned to about 24 stone...

Barnes probably doesnt have much of a case
but the lack of Black managers in england is alarming
you'd think they would implement some version of the rooney rule
then again
the whole culture in english football is miles behind a business-savvy model like the nfl.

There is a lack of English managers in English PL, let alone black ones.

Racism on all levels is prevalent in all walks of life and needs to be eradicated. Whether John Barnes is good manager material though is a completely different question. His record at Celtic on his cv is not good though tbh.

Like a lot of ex pro's he thinks he should start at the top because he played at the top.Not prepared to go to grass roots and WORK his way back up.
TOTAL LOSER with massive chip on shoulder.
If all else fails play the Racist or Disabled card.

How many black people have been given a chance at management in this country and how many successes have their been? I very much doubt if the black Clough, Revie or Shankley have been nixed because they are black.

asking for rooney rule seems to asume racism isnt keeping black players from becoming managers

there are plenty of job interviews tomorrow where the job has long been promised and others are
wasting their time

i think black players are filtering their way into management....

slowly, but i dont think any football brains are excluded because of their colour

at newcastle we had gullet and hughton,....... gullet a great football brain but poor man manager, and hughton
saved our club when we were relegated but was cruelly sacked for daring to want some say
in transfers

hardly racism in action

The point being there is not a black Clough Revie or Shankley because there was not an open door in the sixties...

We have had an Ince Barnes and now a Chris Ramsey..

Role models or hopeless...

Also people never mention just how over represented black people are when it comes to professional football (where the money is)

Around 5% of the country is black but over half of the english team is black on some occasions

I think it is a disgrace some of these black players and people like barnes seem to always play the race card
He was a 5hit manager thats it.
Great player(and I am a liverpool fan) but a manager no.
I was going to football as a kid in the 70's
race attacks on the few black players then were terrible I saw leeds fans throw banana's on the pitch at barnes who was playing for Watford so I understand as far as I can how he has been affected,  but its getting to the point in this country where you cant say someone is bad at something because they are black or inparticular asian

Sport is a meritocracy.  The racism card is a ridiculous argument.  There are huge amounts of money at stake and chairmen simply choose whoever they think is going to be best at the job.  Tbh John Barnes is about the worst example you could choose.  He was loved and admired which is why he got the jobs, but in practice he was dreadful.
