Technical question - delays......

Most broadcast matches are actually 1-2 minutes behind live. Horse races broadcast "live" are 20-30 seconds behind. RUK actually has less of a delay than C4 though, so I always back horses if the race is on RUK and lay them if the race is on C4 because of the effect of them actually running slower.

If it's 1-2 mins behind live why isn't everyone at every match making a fortune hoovering, the world over? Appreciate it happens sometimes but given the suspend usually happens at most 10-15 seconds before we see the goal go in on TV, if the delay is really 1-2 minutes then you're saying the suspend happens somewhere between 45 seconds and 105 seconds after the goal is scored at the ground. Which is a lot of time for thousands of people to place a bet on their phones.

I can hear Watford fans celebrating in the stadium from my home (this is unfortunate for me on many levels) - next time they are live on TV I'm going to see what the actual delay is as I'm interested now - I'm sure it can't really be 1-2 mins.

I would think the betting companies have some system in place that gives them some advanced warning of a particular betting event ie goal, corner, card etc otherwise we could be putting on bets while at a ground watching live and coining it.

Well in the case of Betfair that's the suspend feature. And it seems to happen (if I'm remembering correctly - perhaps I'm not) only a few seconds at most before we see goals scored. I should have paid attention to Palace just now and I'd be able to say for sure!

But if that's right, and if the poster above saying TV is 1-2 mins behind then that means Betfair isn't suspending until 45-105 seconds after the goal is actually scored. Which simply can't be correct.

they need to do away with the suspend... its pointless

Delay on Sky HD is about 6-8secs when the suspend goes up on Gruss.
