Sherwood very short . Can't even find any rumours that he the choice online , just 'he's the bookies favourite'

I can't see that they have anyone lined up as the board support for Lambert seemed pretty solid til this week .

There is no Pulis/Allardyce type saviour available . Then on the one hand you have people who would deffo take the job: desperate types like Hoddle who have done nothing for years . And the more up and coming likes of Sherwood,Howe etc .But is the job really that attractive for a manager that might get a better offer if they sat this out ? There is enough of the season left that someone coming in now would still be blamed if they went down , and the guy who makes the appointment could be out the door himself at any moment leaving them without a backer in the boardroom .

I've backed the Marshalls as the caretaker always overpriced as people don't understand the 10 game rule . I'd have thought saving money would be a priority as they apparently have to pay Lambert £10M .

If Sherwood doesn't take it within days then the Marshalls might be given a couple of winnable games ; do ok in those and they might decide to leave it to the summer when there will be more options.

Stan Collymore might be the only man who would take it. Dalian Atkinson as his number 2.
Report CLYDEBANK29 • February 12, 2015 1:05 PM GMT
Whoever takes it, it will need to be someone who can handle having no money to spend.  Off the top of my head only Burnley and Palace seem to work on a smaller transfer budget.  Sean Dyche would therefore be my choice.

Possibly get Danny Ings for free in the Summer too if they stayed up.

is this true about having to pay Lambert £10mil?
Report akabula • February 12, 2015 2:17 PM GMT
Posted this on another thread.
He was only 6 months into a £3m a year 4 year deal.
Due £10m but will probably have to settle for quite a bit less.
Not a bad payoff though as guaranteed a few mill whatever happens.

sacked managers never get more than about a year's money if they're lucky
Report Crisp77 • February 12, 2015 2:49 PM GMT
To be fair. With the money he has saved on goal and win bonuses Villa can easily afford to pay him off.

are any actually ANY GOOD ?  is it just luck if a manager has a good run - do players try more for certain managers ?

if so get in some friendly bloke or fan to have a chat with the players at HT etc

Report mafeking • February 14, 2015 3:01 PM GMT
he did as well as could be expected taking over a hospital pass at spurs mid season. 42 points from 22 games. picked bentaleb in his first game and he's been a virtual ever present since

granted different kettle of fish at villa who are about as low as any football club could possibly be at the moment

Who replaces Paul 'Future Real Madrid Manager' Lambert.  Or so you'd have believed a few years back.  Sherwood did well at Spurs but his fate was sealed before he'd even accepted the job.  Well worth a punt considering the alternatives.
Report akabula • February 14, 2015 3:10 PM GMT
Surely can't do any worse than Lambert.
Report Ibrahima Sonko • February 14, 2015 3:11 PM GMT
Probably not but even Harry did well at spurs, just seems if you are big name you get the gig rather than an up and coming lower league manager.
Report akabula • February 14, 2015 3:38 PM GMT
I wouldn't argue with that.
Report Hamsterdam • February 14, 2015 3:52 PM GMT
If he was any good why did Levy get rid of him?
Report buzzer • February 14, 2015 3:58 PM GMT
Because, like Lambert, he pi sse d off several senior players Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro....my lasting impression is him sitting in the directors box whilst Spurs were getting tonked 4-0 at Anfield then afterwards saying there was no point him being on the touchline and he gets a better view Cry
Report berto77 • February 14, 2015 5:37 PM GMT
Will be interested to see if he can reign himself in when talking to the press.  Can't see him having a long term managerial career if he keeps acting like a pundit.  Big chance for him as Villa should be able to stay up given the low quality at the bottom of the league.
Report Horangi. • February 14, 2015 6:28 PM GMT
3.5 year deal at a traditional big club for a man with a half season caretaker role as his only managerial experience.  The appointment baffles on so many levels.  Keep hearing how much of a good coach he is but I swear watching some of those games when he was in charge of Spurs was shocking.  And that ego of his certainly isn't going to be tempered now that he has landed this job, and just imagine if Villa stay up next year he will walk around like he is king.

Its entirely possible a decade or two from now many will wonder how on earth Tim Sherwood held jobs at Spurs and Villa.
Report Hamsterdam • February 14, 2015 7:32 PM GMT
Managerial contracts aren't worth doing these days. Lambert was given a new 4 year one earlier in the season. Sherwood will be on relative peanuts.

"You can't take any positives. It is bitterly disappointing to lose the game in the manner we did, right at the death. Both teams were very poor, but I didn't care as long as we won.
"There is no point in me getting a big stick out and banging the players on the head with it. It is about me getting the best out of them for the remaining games.
"There is a lot of work to be done but we will improve because we need to keep this great club in the Premier League. We are not thinking about going down."
