I know it has been a while but I think their greatest players were in the 80's and 90's. He has been the best of a bad bunch is how I'd describe him.

All time great not sure about that I see he did not make many of the all time prem teams he has been a good player but when you compare him to Keane and Vieira they are just a level above

Gerrard has been a good player , some may say very good , but he was never GREAT .

Great players do it against the best clubs regularly and that is something that he couldn't do . A lot of times he went missing .

Can understand the OP having such admiration for him, and why not.

No other England player apart from Teddy Sheringham, had the ability to turn a European Cup final comletely on it`s head.

Gerrards second half performance that night was exceptional.

Undeniably an all time great, carried Liverpool for many years and would probably be in their top 2-3 greatest ever players.

Might not have won a league medal but won everything else and is the only player to score in the final of the champions league, UEFA Cup, FA cup and league cup.

Obviously time has caught up with him and he's declined in recent years but for a good few years (especially 2004-2009) he was one of the worlds best.

They generally played in better sides & with better players. Do you think either of them would have been as influential as Gerrard had they been in his position at Liverpool. I'm pretty sure Stevie would have been a big success at somewhere like United & Arsenal during the 90's & beyond.

An excellent well thought out reply. Laugh

What don't you agree with? The fact he'll go down as one of Liverpool's all time greats, him scoring in those finals or that he was one of the worlds best for a number of years? I can't see how you can argue any of those points

I can recall him having great matches against the following off the top of my head: Man united, Everton, Arsenal Chelsea , Ac Milan ,Real Madrid, Barcelona, but according to experts such as Zealot he went missing in big games. .. Right

Beckhams bigest test was the final v Bayern when utd were hopelessly outclassed until sheringham appeared.

Of course the media gave him MOTM for contributing to the two corners, despite Bayern owning him for 88 mins of that game.

Was not the only one that came up short, York and Cole were scoring for fun in the prem but this game was big for them too, giggs and scholes have the best pro record in the prem, but were also finding nothing on that night, then Ted arrived.

Only class players are capable of turning a game as Gerrard and Sheri did.

Clough I never said Beckham was world class quite the opposite. Beckham has more winning medals in his cabinet times ten. Won everything in England. Gerrard on the other hand. .....,

Also played for real Madrid. His cV rapes gerrards

Given the fact that Scholes didn't play that night one could argue you are being a bit harsh on him.

How many medals do you think Beckham would have won had he come through Liverpool's youth system and played for them throughout his career?

Gerrard never done it in world cups etc. If he was so good why didn't anyone from decent clubs tap him up? Oh give me the he didn't want to leave crap. Stayed and won not 1 premiership Grin.Beckham at least went to real and also got in the team and won stuff. Not a fan of beckhan il state again he's not world class either
