when i was 10 i was on 11 aside pitches , goalkeepers were 4 ft tall in 11 aside goalsLaugh no wonder some of us bagged 40 odd a season.

Well in a important game, say the champions league final, last day of title race and you only need a win by any score but it must be a win, your 1-0 up and its 85 on the clock, do you risk run the clock down now or risk throwing away the title or being a champions league winner, world cup winner etc....

go for a second on counter to kill game would be the neutrals choice but you can see why they take it in the corners

overs bets are o the down because of it

Remember John Barnes in the corner for Liverpool in injury time not running the clock down, last game of the season 1989. Ball won back, punt upfield, Smith knocked it through, Thomas scored. "It's up for grabs now". Arsenal champions.

Whenever Spurs try to run the clock down in the corner we seem to burn about 5 seconds then concede a goal kick.  Would rather go for another goal personally, unless it's literally the last few seconds.

It's a perfectly legitimate tactic of course.  My gripe isn't doing it in the last couple of minutes, it's when they do it in the last 20 Sad

Winds me up when they sit in the corner for 5mins, as a neutral watcher it would. I guess its fair enough in their shoes.

From a gamblers point of view it's always going to seem bad if you are needing something for your profit and you're thinking "come on I know you can get that extra goal for my overs instead of sitting in the corner or knocking it around the back" blah blah
But you need to remember that for the sport and the game being played, gambling doesn't come into it... it's about the result for the team.  But yeah, in your mind, you are thinking "this isn't professional, you should play the game and play football the best you can" like it has to be "pure" and these "tactics" are not "pure" or professional when really they are perfectly fine to use to secure the result desired.

Anyway just thought I'd add that in because nobody has said it and the reason most people moan about it is usually because it is affecting their bets/positions in the market but as I said the team isn't thinking "come on boys let's try for another so Dave's bet comes in for him" Tongue Out

Time wasting while the ball is in play is absolutely fine in my opinion, part of the game.  What's desperately annoying is the faking injuries, taking time over goal kicks etc, and the referees NEVER add sufficient injury time to compensate.  Go down injured for 3 mins and he'll add on maybe 1 minute more than he would have.
Report Lifter December 19, 2014 7:43 PM GMT
Whats more annoying is when someone is doing it on Fifa
Report loui December 19, 2014 8:12 PM GMT
Chelsea were doing it in first 20 mins at  anfield in May.

I love it when a ref books a player for timewasting, and by booking him he actually wastes more time. You've got to love the irony!

If I was a ref I would never book a player for timewasting, I would just tap my watch and then add it on at the end (and maybe a bit more too)
