Yes, I always lay off in such circumstances, it's what I advise others to do too. I also layed off Tromso when they went 2 up during the first half but they won anyway. From what I've seen so far, Viking are currently the strongest team in the Eliteserien,they just got caught out in the first round.  Bodo seemed jaded early on perhaps from too many fixtures but they are coming good.

Man U v Brentford, I'm having a small bet on the draw and will back BTTS if I can get 1.8 in running.

I got Saturday's tips wrong, the Boro/Watford game was a bit of a goal fest and Boro had some luck, which is a rarity this season.

On the midweek/weekend BTTS fourfold I ended up with 3 out of 4, not quite enough for the accie, who would have thought Livingston could keep a clean sheet away from home!

Well, the BTTS came in but not the draw. How Brentford contrived not to score more goals is a mystery.

No prizes for guessing that I've backed Tromso again today. Their oponents Brann are a better team than their current league position suggests in my opinion but I'm keeping faith with the home team.Current price around evens.

I’ve also gone for Tromso tonight, but I’ll also go for over 2.5 goals as I reckon whatever the result there could be 3 or 4 goals in this game, current odds about 1.80 so I’ll put some bets up to hopefully get matched at 2.00 or higher if no early goal comes

GL oth, looks like you got matched for overs. Brann is one of only 3 teams in the division who play on grass at home, the others being Lillestrom and Rosenborg. Worth keeping in mind when they play home fixtures.

Derby gone from 1.8 to 2.0 in last half hour or so only the left back Murkin missing other than the long  term injuries, very strange.

Aye pug was me who put Vip, back in September I think it was… surely in the bag but never say never… I recall being at Carrot Road a few years back on the opening day, Colchester winning 5-0 at HT, still had this suspicion that Norwich would get back in to it, but of course they didn’t… Vip has been aided by a lack of competition up front as Idah has been injured for a fair part of the season and also the amount of penalties Swansea has been given, so in the end it’s been quite comfortable, I look forward to being weighed out sometime this afternoon on to 3pm and I’ve gone for Blackpool, Bristol Rovers an Mansfield treb, pays with a boost about 50/1… do think Colchester will get beat later but I’m steering clear of that one, cheers… King’s Trail in the 2000 for me…

Distant Storm for me in the Guineas. Gstaad is worth taking on as favourite, given how many of AOB horses have run 1st time out this season.

A speculative loss for me yesterday as Harrogate succumbed to Barnet and have been relegated to the National league. Today I'm hoping that Tromso have recovered from an unexpected midweek pasting and will get back on track against bottom club Start. A small stake bet on Tromso at 1.82. This price is about twice what I expected and is perhaps a reaction to the previous result.

Stevenage have the worst GD in the play offs in L1 since Brentford 21 years ago.   Bradford have the joint 3rd or 4th worst GD over that period.  The combined GD of all 4 teams is only +41 which is lower than teams who finished 7th to 10th, and surely the lowest ever.  I definitely think it's a shocking L1 Play Off.

Stevenage beat Stockport home and away in the league (and didn't deserve to win either match) so we've been very lucky.  3 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat against the other teams gives us a shout, but personally don't fancy us at all, although glad we are not playing Bolton.

Yesterday didn’t end too bad, especially with Newcastle taking a 3-1 win.

Have seen this morning sportsbook going 6.0 Harry Kane to be knighted at the end of the year, wouldn't rule it out even if we get beat tonight anyway but if we made the final he would surely be odds on. He's pretty much same price as England to win it and if they did would be a 1.1 shot at the most.

Big rumours Derby will be receiving big Saudi investment next week, wit the saviour of the Club David Clowes remaining as chairman so hopeful can build on last seasons 8th class place finish.

Am keeping fingers crossed that Harry Kane can win the balon d'or in October (he's currently 2.0 favourite with Sportsbook). As this would only help my to be knighted bet at the end of the year

Interesting selections, The Dragon. Bristol Rovers certainly looked to be getting their act together at the back end of last season after a disastrous start. I've had a small bet on Barnet at 11 but we need to see how things are going after the first games of the new season. Salford of course are also likely to be in the mix.

Stockport finished 3rd and lost in play offs also have a new manager, Soton well we know what happened to them and prob be in Prem but for spygate so they have to be of interest and Bristol Rovers finished the season really well after a terrible start and should be up there. won 11 out of 14 last games 2 draws and 1 loss.

Ive had a few successes over the years with that approach. had Coventry at 14/1 last year which was nice.

Also had a couple of quid on Millwall who look way to big at over 40s on here - Championship is very competitive and there are a few teams at big prices who could go well including WBA, Derby and Norwich.

As you are all probably aware I dont really bet on football fixtures until 5 or 6 games into the season as form lines are not really established until then.

However I thought I would try a different angle on the opening fixtures base on the following criteria:

Teams who were 2 divisions apart in the previous season and teams relegated playing teams at the bottom end of the lower division.. For example Notts Co are playing Leicester on 16 August . Leicester in Championship Notts Co in Div2- so i would back the team from the higher division.

If you do this you would back LEICESTER at 2.02 and WOLVES to beat Blackburn at 1.58.

Teams were the differential in league positions were at least 12 places different and a big form differential at the end of last season.

If you did this you have NORWICH to beat WBA at 2.08, SOTON to beat Watford at 2.12 and BRADFORD to beat Peterborough at 1.64

I know the teams maybe very different between seasons due to transfers, new managers etc but i thought it gives an interesting angle on the early fixtures.

As a long time follower I look forward to your picks  and also am looking forward to the new season.
I do odds trading in play and last season was my best to date, having a had a self financing bank since last November.
Previously I had to top this up on a not quite monthly basis.
Being a 2quid punter I have a my budget for my bets of a tenner a month.( It's all about the odds for me)
Was interested to see your thoughts on regulated/promoted teams playing each other and I have to say I take the opposite view in a lot of them
Notts co I think could seriously do something for example I feel and also I would say the same about the other fixtures you mention.
Firstly there is often more value in the prices.second I think that many teams will take it as a free hit , another factor is a general levelling out if talent throughout the pyramid, although as we all know eventually class often and does prevail.i think my team rovers are good value and although we may not win at wolves I fancy us to get something and 1.58 is a certain lay for me, poss will trade into wolves later.
Surprise factor and also the fact that the teams will be unfamiliar with the playing styles also counts . I will be looking to lay accordingly and on balance expect tog.et something form these games, i.e. for example I would be trading of a a draw position at half time possibly if no score.

i am backing BARNET (1.62) again this weekend at home to Cheltenham.

Barnet 2/2 so far this season and won their last game 3-1 v ante post faves Salford 3-1. Their home form last season was solid with 10 wins and 6 draws. Cheltenham were very poor on the road last season with 12 losses and 6 draws and already lost their first away game to Swindon 2-1. its bit of a short price but i think Barnet will win.

The other game i like in this division is COLCHESTER at a healthy 7/5. Colu were solid at home last season with the identical home form as Barnet. they beat Oldham 2-1 in their first home game and play Rochdale who are struggling already in the higher league with 2 losses v teams that struggled last season Newport (3-0) and and Crawley (1-2).

I find the first 4 weeks of the season the hardest to predict.

There is the August transfer window to cope with.

Players and teams are new at many clubs and even managers in the Premier League.

Some teams with slightly smaller squads start well, but then fail to keep it up as they pick up injuries and suspensions and haven't got the back up resources

I like my Both Teams to Score bets, as it keeps interest going in a game.

Betfred do usually offer shop punters a few juicy matches in their fixed returns coupon BTTS Bonus - a 4 fold is a set price of 9/1. BTTS is normally odds on in a game, so its tempting to look for a fourfold @ 9/1.

I have laid Boro @ 1.82 - Quite a few key players have carried injuries over from the previous season (Morris, Alfie Jones, Conway) add in 9 new signings to the squad and there has been a lot of change and bedding in to do. Some signings are from different countries too. In a few weeks time the squad will be stronger than last season and probably the first 11 will be stronger, but in the meantime they are likely to be over priced. They were not tight enough at Blackburn last week and were punished by a wily Blackburn side. I saw WBA on TV at Newcastle and they looked a top 6 Championship side, certainly capable of causing Boro a lot of problems.

WBA did look very useful, particularly their general play. I still believe they will be top 6, but Boro have a cutting edge this season with Lankshear and Joseph that they did not last season.

Ref BTTS bets - Quite a high scoring weekend for all UK games, but Aberdeen, Crawley and Preston failed to score for me and usually do score.

Some very interesting games this weekend across the divisions but not much from a betting perspective.

HUDDERSFIELD 8/13 look good to beat Bromley but are very short given their draw record.

Grimsby 2/5 should be too strong for Crawley and

Soton 7/5 away at Wrexham is deffo of interest.

I've been giving money to the bookies lately, I've had my longest losing run this month with 9 consecutive days watching my bank shrink, so keeping bets to a minimum for the following bets

2 home wins:  Spurs @ 1.92 and  Cardiff @  1.74
and I can see both teams scoring in the Millwall v West Ham game @ 1.67

Although Spurs and Villa have forgotten how to score, I was thinking about backing over 2.5 goals but odds are only 1.68 so I’ll hang back for now and see how the game goes in the first 15-20 minutes

Here are a few thoughts on the weekends fixtures:

Not sure why Gills are 9/2 on here away at York this weekend. They have won 3 on the bounce and unbeaten in 6 and have scored 11 and conceded 1 in last 3.

York only won two in last 6 games but are strong at home. The lay of York is currently 1.62.

You would fancy Salford to win at Oldham given the current form of both teams and I was surprised to see that Oldham are favs for the game. Salford available at 7/4. Local derby maybe a factor on the pricing.

Grimsby are odds on to win at Newport and should oblige but i think they are a bit short given both teams draw records.

Bristol Rovers 8/11 must have a good chance of breaking their losing sequence at home to Exeter who have lost every away game and not won in five.

Not sure what is going on at Swindon and they are proving to be very inconsistent. Won 3 lost 3 in the last 6. They are very good at home with a 3/3 wins ratio. Probably to good for Accrington who have lost every away game and won 1 in 6.

Swindon at 6/5 is very tempting.

Here are my thoughts on the 3 Div 1 games this weekend:

Only 3 games this weekend and Reading v Bradford looks the pick of them.

This is the team with the best Home record v the team with the best away record. Reading are 11/8 and Bradford are 9/4 on the exchanges with the draw at 5/2.

Bradford have the best form with 3 wins on the bounce including 0-1 away wins at Luton and Notts Co. Reading have won all 3 home games scoring a massive 13 goals.

Too hard to call in my book but probably a draw at 5/2 and unders looking the most likely outcome with Bradford only conceding 2 goals in 4 away games.

Burton are proving to be the surprise package of the league winning away at Plymouth last weekend and only losing 2 in 8 games.They lie 7th in the league.

Huddersfield have only lost once this season but have only won 2 in the last six. Burton look big at 3/1 and Huddersfield look short at 10/11. The draw is 5/2.

Again another tough one to call and maybe another draw at 5/2 is the likely outcome.

Final game is Orient v Plymouth and again another tough one to call. Perhaps Plymouth who have won 4/6 can get back to winning ways after their home defeat to Burton. Orient are poor at home with 3 losses in 4 games. Plymouth are short enough at evens but maybe they are good enough to win this one. Small bet on away win at Evens.

I like Barrow 9/10 at home to Wealdstone. Barrow on a good run after an awful start to the Nat league after being relegated last season . they have won 3 on the bounce scoring 8 goals and have won their last 3 home games. Wealdestone are doing okish with 3 losses in 6 but i reckon Barrow will keep their momentum going.

I have added Harrogate 5/8 to beat Hornchurch and Worthing 7/10 to win at Gateshead . for my patent bet. All odds on i know but hopefully they will oblige.

Cheltenham at 2/1 look attractive to win away at Accrington in Div 2.

i got the three up also in national league and 2/3 in league 1 so pretty good weekend

did ok last weekend with correct score on Bradford 1-1 and the draw to boot also had the away win at Plymouth.

I like OXFORD this weekend to get the points at Notts Co and done the 1-2 correct score. Notts only won 1 in 6 and Oxford are unbeaten away with 2 wins and a draw. Oxford are 9/5 on here.

I have doubled them with READING  at 6/4 who are away at MKDons. Dons have not won a game yet and are king of the draws and lie 3rd to bottom of the League. Reading are second in the form league with only 1 defeat in 6. A cover bet on the draw is also advised.

A couple of weird early prices in league 2 at the weekend,

The first is Accrington at Oldham who are 9/2 on here. Oldham (1.62) have lost 4 on the bounce and only won 2 games all season. Accrington have lost 1 in 6 (to high flying Barnet) and beat a much fancied Cheltenham at the weekend. The prices make no sense and a lay of Oldham looks good value.

The other is Rochdale who are just under 3/1 on here away at Tranmere. Rochdale are on a roll after a dodgy start and have won 3 on the bounce and 4 out of 6. Only defeat was too inform Gills who beat them at home 1-4.Tranmere have won 1 in 6 games and have drawn 3 of those games.Tranmere are 11/10.

Barnet at 2/1 also look a decent price to beat Bristol Roves who have lost 3 in 4.

How about an away treble in the Prem - Brighton, Newcastle and Brentford might be in with a shout at decent prices. Small treb and patent
