Tromso v Lillestrom looks like BTTS. currently around 1.7. Both off to a flying start and scoring freely. Early days but I think worth a punt. You are right to keep stakes low at this time of the season, the Dragon.

No goals in my pick last night unfortunately. I think I need to give the Eliteserien a few more weeks for the form to settle.
Just a modest interest tonight in the Forest v Porto game. Over 1.5 goals at 1.49. Both previous encounters between these teams this season ended with two goals scored.

As kick-off approaches, Bromley are 3.85 and Cambridge 2.28.

Just to be clear - I'm a Cambridge fan, so I can't back Bromley!

The reason I posted about this game was to try and get some theories for why a team who've taken just three points from their last four away games are clear favourites against a table-topping side that hasn't lost at home for over a year.

I suppose one theory is that Cambridge's performances have been better than Bromley's in recent weeks.

A poor couple of days for me last weekend with football and racing bets, my main bet in National didn’t make it past the first!! and although my only selection at Newcastle won I didn’t have anything on it (I am sure I backed it though!!)
Sunday wasn’t much better with Newcastle once again throwing away a lead to lose to a late goal

Foinavon, I was looking into Reading v Cardiff as I thought I had missed something after looking at the odds (will check again before k.o.)
I’ll probably go Reading on the Asian Handicap with +0.5 goals or +1 goal (or maybe both)
Reading lost 4 of last 14 games, all losses to only 1 goal margin, they’ve also lost only 4 of 21 home games and taken points from 6 of 8 home games played against the 9 teams above them.
Cardiff dropped points in 7 of last 10 games and in 7 of 10 away games against teams in top half of league
Surely Reading can take something from this game

Dragon, Swindon conceding in 1st minute made me think I was on for another losing day, but didn’t take long for them to get in front though

Cardiff were shorter than I expected (which was somewhere between 1.8 and evens) and Plymouth are about right considering that Wimbledon had a hard match midweek and are missing Matty Stevens. I just think that Wimbledon desperately need the points and might hold on for a draw.

The right thing to do, the Dragon, there were a lot of draws in the early games apart from the Championship where all three were home wins.

vwd oth - ok weekend for me away selections are proving to be so mutter better than home ones.

i may look as this as a strategy for next season.

It made a nice change having to 2 late goals working to my advantage, I put some of the returns on a Man City win and Over 2.5 goals (keeping my stakes small), so the weekend’s betting didn’t end too bad.

Yes, I always lay off in such circumstances, it's what I advise others to do too. I also layed off Tromso when they went 2 up during the first half but they won anyway. From what I've seen so far, Viking are currently the strongest team in the Eliteserien,they just got caught out in the first round.  Bodo seemed jaded early on perhaps from too many fixtures but they are coming good.

Man U v Brentford, I'm having a small bet on the draw and will back BTTS if I can get 1.8 in running.

I got Saturday's tips wrong, the Boro/Watford game was a bit of a goal fest and Boro had some luck, which is a rarity this season.

On the midweek/weekend BTTS fourfold I ended up with 3 out of 4, not quite enough for the accie, who would have thought Livingston could keep a clean sheet away from home!

Well, the BTTS came in but not the draw. How Brentford contrived not to score more goals is a mystery.

No prizes for guessing that I've backed Tromso again today. Their oponents Brann are a better team than their current league position suggests in my opinion but I'm keeping faith with the home team.Current price around evens.

GL oth, looks like you got matched for overs. Brann is one of only 3 teams in the division who play on grass at home, the others being Lillestrom and Rosenborg. Worth keeping in mind when they play home fixtures.

Derby gone from 1.8 to 2.0 in last half hour or so only the left back Murkin missing other than the long  term injuries, very strange.

Aye pug was me who put Vip, back in September I think it was… surely in the bag but never say never… I recall being at Carrot Road a few years back on the opening day, Colchester winning 5-0 at HT, still had this suspicion that Norwich would get back in to it, but of course they didn’t… Vip has been aided by a lack of competition up front as Idah has been injured for a fair part of the season and also the amount of penalties Swansea has been given, so in the end it’s been quite comfortable, I look forward to being weighed out sometime this afternoon on to 3pm and I’ve gone for Blackpool, Bristol Rovers an Mansfield treb, pays with a boost about 50/1… do think Colchester will get beat later but I’m steering clear of that one, cheers… King’s Trail in the 2000 for me…

Distant Storm for me in the Guineas. Gstaad is worth taking on as favourite, given how many of AOB horses have run 1st time out this season.

A speculative loss for me yesterday as Harrogate succumbed to Barnet and have been relegated to the National league. Today I'm hoping that Tromso have recovered from an unexpected midweek pasting and will get back on track against bottom club Start. A small stake bet on Tromso at 1.82. This price is about twice what I expected and is perhaps a reaction to the previous result.

Stevenage have the worst GD in the play offs in L1 since Brentford 21 years ago.   Bradford have the joint 3rd or 4th worst GD over that period.  The combined GD of all 4 teams is only +41 which is lower than teams who finished 7th to 10th, and surely the lowest ever.  I definitely think it's a shocking L1 Play Off.

Stevenage beat Stockport home and away in the league (and didn't deserve to win either match) so we've been very lucky.  3 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat against the other teams gives us a shout, but personally don't fancy us at all, although glad we are not playing Bolton.

Yesterday didn’t end too bad, especially with Newcastle taking a 3-1 win.

Have seen this morning sportsbook going 6.0 Harry Kane to be knighted at the end of the year, wouldn't rule it out even if we get beat tonight anyway but if we made the final he would surely be odds on. He's pretty much same price as England to win it and if they did would be a 1.1 shot at the most.

Big rumours Derby will be receiving big Saudi investment next week, wit the saviour of the Club David Clowes remaining as chairman so hopeful can build on last seasons 8th class place finish.

Am keeping fingers crossed that Harry Kane can win the balon d'or in October (he's currently 2.0 favourite with Sportsbook). As this would only help my to be knighted bet at the end of the year

Interesting selections, The Dragon. Bristol Rovers certainly looked to be getting their act together at the back end of last season after a disastrous start. I've had a small bet on Barnet at 11 but we need to see how things are going after the first games of the new season. Salford of course are also likely to be in the mix.

Stockport finished 3rd and lost in play offs also have a new manager, Soton well we know what happened to them and prob be in Prem but for spygate so they have to be of interest and Bristol Rovers finished the season really well after a terrible start and should be up there. won 11 out of 14 last games 2 draws and 1 loss.

Ive had a few successes over the years with that approach. had Coventry at 14/1 last year which was nice.

Also had a couple of quid on Millwall who look way to big at over 40s on here - Championship is very competitive and there are a few teams at big prices who could go well including WBA, Derby and Norwich.

As you are all probably aware I dont really bet on football fixtures until 5 or 6 games into the season as form lines are not really established until then.

However I thought I would try a different angle on the opening fixtures base on the following criteria:

Teams who were 2 divisions apart in the previous season and teams relegated playing teams at the bottom end of the lower division.. For example Notts Co are playing Leicester on 16 August . Leicester in Championship Notts Co in Div2- so i would back the team from the higher division.

If you do this you would back LEICESTER at 2.02 and WOLVES to beat Blackburn at 1.58.

Teams were the differential in league positions were at least 12 places different and a big form differential at the end of last season.

If you did this you have NORWICH to beat WBA at 2.08, SOTON to beat Watford at 2.12 and BRADFORD to beat Peterborough at 1.64

I know the teams maybe very different between seasons due to transfers, new managers etc but i thought it gives an interesting angle on the early fixtures.

Any comments gratefully received.

As a long time follower I look forward to your picks  and also am looking forward to the new season.
I do odds trading in play and last season was my best to date, having a had a self financing bank since last November.
Previously I had to top this up on a not quite monthly basis.
Being a 2quid punter I have a my budget for my bets of a tenner a month.( It's all about the odds for me)
Was interested to see your thoughts on regulated/promoted teams playing each other and I have to say I take the opposite view in a lot of them
Notts co I think could seriously do something for example I feel and also I would say the same about the other fixtures you mention.
Firstly there is often more value in the prices.second I think that many teams will take it as a free hit , another factor is a general levelling out if talent throughout the pyramid, although as we all know eventually class often and does prevail.i think my team rovers are good value and although we may not win at wolves I fancy us to get something and 1.58 is a certain lay for me, poss will trade into wolves later.
Surprise factor and also the fact that the teams will be unfamiliar with the playing styles also counts . I will be looking to lay accordingly and on balance expect tog.et something form these games, i.e. for example I would be trading of a a draw position at half time possibly if no score.
