I agree with Wenger about typical English over reaction and to give him time, but other than Jagielka and Cahill, which English centre backs would you put in the team before him?

Any chance of a serious reply?

The only ones I can really think of atm are Jones and Smalling. Are there any more? Must be, centre back is such a traditional 'English' position.

Terry and Ferdinand are gone. There's no way they will be coming back.

Chambers is a complete novice, serious title contenders do not play kids like these. The boy was bought as backup right back and is only playing CB until the Greek geezer comes in. It's interesting that Wenger spent all that money on a kid yet nothing on the main weakness of the team, a big, dynamic DM, year after year teams exploit the space in front of the back 4.

Sky, I'm not even talking about Arsenal. I may support them but this question has nothing to do with it. This is a question about the England national team and the sheer fact that such a novice as Chambers is being talked about breaking into the team is a sore reflection on the current crop of what has always been a position in which England has been up with the best in the world, i.e Moore, Butcher, Adams, Charlton, Campbell, Terry.

Curtis Davies is the best English centre half in the country at the minute; was last season too. Cahill isn't too far behind. Jagielka is positionally poor.

If Davies played for a more fashonable team he'd be a permanent fixture.

Agree glossy, he is one of the better english centre backs.

Treble, this is what the media do, hype players, inflate their qualities, then we become disappointed when they fail to live up to it. Look at the 'Golden Generation' label, Spain had a golden generation AFTER they'd won two euros and a world cup. The media create the myths, Phil Jones and Wes Brown are perfect examples. Before the world cup we were led to believe that Baines was one of the best LB's in the world, really!! Luke Shaw and Chambers are promising young players, in Germany and Spain there is an abundance of excellent youngsters.

Jagielka is positionally poor. totally agree with that, his positioning in that uruguay game was nothing short of abysmal
