Blackpool’s pre-season trip to La Manga has been cancelled due to lack of players.
The Seasiders were due to fly out to Spain on Sunday for a nine-day training camp which included two friendly games.
However, with the club currently having just eight players, boss Jose Riga has cancelled the trip.

Even if they sign players between now and start of the season they will have no time together as a team and could be a right shambles. Ive bet the 4/6, -1 at 17/10, -2 at 9/2 and also had some cash on 3,4,5 and 6-0 as prices look huge and will probably go off a lot shorter than they are currently. Reckon the match odds will probably half unless they do something extremely drastic regarding signings - and I just cannot see that happening. Cue a 0-0 draw....

Dav_vino3 - what do you mean you disagree?? Yes forest are nothing special. Yes they could have a siege mentality. Yes they could sign some decent players. Forest could improve under Pearce, Blackpool could not sign one decent established player. A lot of coulds. Clearly Blackpool have major problems this season.
I don't know what you're disagreeing with. 4/6 is value. Their price has already shortened over night, and will clearly shortened come kick off. Irrelevant of the result come match day, you are wrong to disagree I'm afraid. When betting you try to find value, not pick winners. Your comment suggests you've yet to grasp this concept.

Toffee - surely that is factored into the price and the likelihood of that actually happening (it's 1.01 they don't). I've taken my early stance and more than happy with it as it stands. Why would any professional player want to go there as well with the club as it is?
Article on BBC from last night:
Jose Riga's future as Blackpool manager is likely to be decided by Saturday.
The former Charlton boss, who took charge at Bloomfield Road on 11 June, is locked in a dispute with chairman Karl Oyston over transfer policy.
Riga is understood to have refused to make any signings unless Oyston brings in three particular players, whose identities have not been made public.
With three weeks to go until their opening Championship game, Blackpool have just eight contracted players.
If Riga agrees to start bringing in players and is in the dugout for Saturday's opening pre-season fixture at non-league Penrith, he will remain in charge.
However, if the transfer stand-off between Riga and the chairman continues - or if the manager does not show at Penrith - it is expected to spell the end of his reign.
With their opening league fixture to be played at Nottingham Forest on 9 August, the Seasiders - relegated from the Premier League in 2011 - have no goalkeeper and will have to rely on youth-team players and trialists to play Saturday's friendly against their Northern League Division One opponents.
A pre-season tour to Spain, for which the squad were scheduled to depart on Sunday, has been cancelled at the manager's request.
But Riga has been told the Penrith game will go ahead, with the boss - as far as the club are concerned - in the dugout.
The 56-year-old, who had a 16-match spell at Charlton at the end of last season, was appointed as successor to interim player-manager Barry Ferguson, under whom Blackpool narrowly escaped relegation to League One last season.
Riga has not spoken to the media since he got the job 37 days ago.
Michael Appleton currently holds the record for the shortest Blackpool reign - he was manager for 65 days during the 2012-13 season, before leaving to take over at Blackburn.

I believe that Oyston refuses to deal with agents demanding huge fees. Not Riga's money so he doesnt care. In some respect if its true, quite refreshing although this stance maybe his downfall and the clubs.
Also believe they are looking mainly overseas for players with a couple from Belgium being amongst them.
If this continues no doubt my mother will be coming home from Bloomfield even more depressed than that of last year and they were poor then.

There is nobody to take over willing to pump money into the club. If their was a candidate to take over then the fans would obviously boycott till some kind of takeover could be facilitated. Without, the Oyston's are Im afraid better than the club disappearing altogether imo.
At least Fleetwood down the road have their chairman Andy Pilley willing to put his money forward, they have come from a dump of a ground in last 5 -7 years with his continued investment.

When they came down from the prem they had the parachute payments to keep investing in the club, and should surely be in a totally different position than they are now. Should at least be a high end challenging Championship club, not the favourites to go down another tier (that doesn't mean they will go down though). The club looks to be in a right state from the outside.

How much money would that generate? Not enough to compete at that level I would nt have thought. You go to games and loads of fans (most stupid) chant Oyston out etc. As I say at present without him/them the club doesnt exist, however, they dont seem to grasp this.
And since the relegation they have invested in a new hotel on the south corner of the stadium but thats about it.
Oyston paid his company 20 or so million out of the profits. As annoying as this may seems Oyston does run the club as a business and has invested over the years so in respect of this I understand however, as a fan you would rather all profit be re invested but this, I dont think with most chairmen is realistic.
Your Dave Whelan's of this world are a rare breed.

Nathan Delfouneso, Faris Haroun, Elliott Grandin, Martin Cranie, Jacob Mellis and Angel Martinez and former Tottenham goalkeeper Ben Alnwick are believed to be among the trialists.
The situation is bad but not quite as bad as made out. A lot of those played for Blackpool last season.

A good article on an Ipswich message board, which pretty much sums it up at the moment:
Blackpool – A Slow Painful Death
It is best to start at the beginning. At the end of last season, the Tangerines released 17 players, including player-manager Barry Ferguson. Contracts were offered to some of the squad, including keeper Matt Gilks, defender Chris Basham and midfielder Neal Bishop, all of which were rejected.
On June 11, former Charlton boss Jose Riga was appointed as Blackpool’s new manager. By mid-July it became apparent that there were problems when Riga was understood to have refused to make any signings unless Karl Oyston (the chairman) allowed three particular (unidentified) players to sign for the club.
Despite a “signings expected to be made in the next few days” comment on a BBC news story on July 14, only one player has arrived since Riga was appointed. The squad is effectively made up of six fit players at the time of writing and 27 players have now left the club since the season ended in May.
Trialist Alnwick
A number of trialists, including keeper Ben Alnwick [who has now joined Peterborough] and striker Nathan Delfouneso, appeared in Saturday’s friendly win over Penrith. However, this weekend’s pre-season friendly game at Alfreton has been postponed, going the way of the club’s pre-season tour in Spain.
These are the facts of Blackpool’s pre-season as can best be gleaned from reliable news reports, and feelings are running high.
These are the Darkest of Days
“This is a never ending nightmare. It really is”, “I cannot see where we go from here. I honestly and truly despair”, “Tick, tock…”, “The days go by and still no players are coming in”, “My last shred of optimism has now gone.” Many supporters are simply at their wits’ end.
“Blackpool FC is no more than an empty shell, drained bone-dry by one despicable family who are obsessed with personal gain, a family who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. We are the envy of no-one, a shipwreck of Titanic proportions and the laughing stock of the entire football league.”
“How many times this summer have we said ‘today’s the day’?”, “I honestly can’t believe that another week is set to pass us by with no new players. Surely something has to happen today or tomorrow”, “Every thread leads to the same thing. We literally haven’t got anything else to discuss.”
“We are a laughing stock and an embarrassment – the club I have loved and which has been part of my life for nearly 45 years”, “Respected posters and seasoned fans are at their lowest ebb, driven to turning their backs on their football club.”
Karl Oyston
“I would start from the bottom of League Two again tomorrow if you could promise me that we would have an owner that cared about the club and the supporters”, “The Oystons are trying to force Riga out without compensation or they have their foot on the accelerator, driving us over the cliff forever.”
Much of the criticism of the Oyston family, who own the club, is venomous. “Parasite club-killers who won the lottery without buying a ticket” is at the gentler end of the spectrum.
Oyston and former Tangerine and ex-Town loanee DJ Campbell in happier times at Bloomfield Road
“Relegation looks like a certainty and fans will see the real damage next season, with lower gates in League One.” There has been no discussion about league positions, with relegation widely anticipated. “I am utterly fed up and disgusted over how this club is run.”
“No casual reporting about light at the end of the tunnel will make any difference whatsoever. The damage clearly has already been done. The trial players on show prove this – rejects and players struggling to find a club. They are right up Oyston’s street as he can offer the lowest wage possible.”
Some fans think that the chairman has painted himself into a corner: “The real danger now is that Oyston is totally screwed. Players know our desperate situation and will hold us financially to ransom. If we don’t compete, they’ll simply go elsewhere.”
Jose Riga
Supporters by and large are backing the manager. “Riga is on our side. He is trying to get the Oystons to spend the club’s cash on the playing side, rather than on hotels, cars and everything else. He respects himself, the fans and the game by wanting to construct a competitive side.
“He might be doing this without broadcasting (the manager has yet to speak to the press since his appointment) but Riga is a proper footballing man. He is our representative inside the club who can really make a difference. It’s why Oyston wants him out.”
Riga
“It would appear that Riga is sticking to his list. As time ticks down to the start of the season, Riga is getting in no-one and the Oyston’s cannot recruit either”, “Karl now has a manager what won’t toe the party line and accept his penny-pinching offers. He also now has the media chewing his backside.”
“I have no idea what will happen at the Forest game (Blackpool’s first of the season). My feeling is that we could field a few juniors. We could be fined or deducted points”, “My season ticket said ‘Join the Riga Revolution’ – I had no idea that this is what it meant.”

Just had a piece on Channel 4 news about the state of the club and how the owners have taken all of the cash and paid their other companies.
Price been cut by a lot of the books today again, along with the handicap and correct score prices being cut. As it stands 1/2 still looks massively overpriced to me.

Of the 10 fixtures on 9th August, 9 haven't had 500 pounds matched yet.
Except Forest vs Blackpool of course - over £14k matched, and all but £44 on a home win (Forest 1.71 to 1.5).

A pretty meaningless friendly isn't really a true reflection of the sides and what they will do this season imo (remember Orient beating Newcastle 5-0 in pre season and Newcastle then went onto win the league). MK would probably have hammered Blackpool if they played them yesterday as well, also forest were all over them in the second half from what I have read. Granted they may go and batter Blackpool all game and not score, but surely the point is the price and if you are on at 4/6 you won't go far wrong longterm with these bets.

Leeds is another team to oppose this season in the Championship.
Just sold their best striker and their manager is so unproven and his track record in the non-leagues is dreadful. Had one of the biggest budgets in the league and he was dragging them close to the relegation zones.

1.34 to lay, they have signed 3 players today but not exactly that inspiring. Tomasz Cywka and Jacob Mellis (ex Barnsley who were relegated), and Peter Clarke who looks to be on a downward spiral. A plus getting some signings in but not sure these 3 are up to a lot - especially when it comes to a battle.

Still in a right mess with 6 days until kick off, protests again yesterday and going by comments who watched yesterdays game they will have a massive uphill struggle. The players they do have surely won't keep them up unless huge money is spent very soon - and that could even be too late.

Who are these decent players? The ones I have seen seem very poor bar the Costa Rican and Miller, how many games have they played together, and how many do they actually have now? About 15? They could be way behind before they start picking up points.
Financially better off? The owner has huge sums but doesn't want to spend it, if he did he would have brought in some quality at a cost. One player is in on a 28 day loan. Others on small contracts.
I wouldn't back them for relegation as not really my type of bet at the price, for a season long. If they stay up it will be a huge achievement from where they are now, if they got relegated with 40 points I also wouldn't be surprised.
I have layed all of my match bets off for a nice profit, but have left my handicap and correct score bets going as will still be well in profit.
Cue a 0-0 or Pool win now on Saturday!!!

(BBC - Blackpool didn't have a full team on matchday)...
They signed 12 players in 12 days but were only able to name four substitutes for Saturday's game at the City Ground. "In the morning it was even worse, we only had nine players qualified," Riga said after Blackpool lost 2-0. "During the day we managed to get more. There were two 17-year-olds on the bench who were scholars." Blackpool reportedly failed to secure clearance for former Nottingham Forest striker Ishmael Miller, who signed for Blackpool on Wednesday, as well as Spanish defender Edu Oriol and Costa Rica midfielder Jose Miguel Cubero. "I was expecting to have more players than today," added Riga, who only took charge of Blackpool in June. "I try to do my job as manager and not solve administrative issues. For sure I cannot stay in this kind of situation a long time."
