Manager Ronny Deila is unimpressed with the Champions League qualifying format which requires Celtic to negotiate three rounds to reach the group stage.
The Scottish champions, who reached the last 16 in 2013, are aiming for a third consecutive season in the group phase.
However, Scotland are ranked 23rd in Europe by Uefa's coefficient system.
"Celtic don't deserve to have three rounds before going into the Champions League groups," said Deila ahead of the opening qualifier in Iceland.
“It's very unfair that going to the last 16, as we did two years ago, is not going to be recognised”
Ronny Deila Celtic boss
"Celtic have been fighting for many years with the best teams in Europe and it is stupid that the Scottish coefficient is not regarded as good enough.
"It should be more about the clubs. I knew before I came here that we had three qualifying rounds.
"That's wrong because you have to take into consideration the club, not the country.
"We need the biggest clubs in the Champions League, who have deserved it of course.
"It's very unfair that going to the last 16, as we did two years ago, is not going to be recognised."
Deila's side take on KR Reykjavik in the second qualifying round of Europe's premier club competition and it will be the Norwegian's first competitive match since his switch from Stromsgodset to replace Neil Lennon.
"This is a very big club with fantastic history," he added.
"Celtic in the Champions League sounds good, it sounds like a good relationship.
"But it's a problem in every small country. We maybe have one good team but the other ones are dragging that team down. I think especially here, when you have a big team like Celtic that has done so well, they should have a shot at the group stages right away.
"Some countries have three or four teams going in and I think that is not right."

Ah Diddums!!!! maybe you should've thought of that when you voted to devalue your league.
Westender not sure of how good St Pats are but Legia are no mugs. Look at Celtic only winning 1-0. Next week they'll be sharper and win comfortably. I would expect Legia to be sharper as well and can see them progressing.

Akabula..Pats will struggle to retain their league title this autumn..summer football here..mostly part time players..keith fahey ex birmingham and irish international would be their star player..Christy Fagan who scored against legia wont be playing league of ireland much longer..too good..sligo also done the league proud last nite beating rosenborg..dundalk and derry both beat.

Thanks LD. Yes the Sligo result was good and will ensure a good atmosphere at home. @Platini Going by the old saying 'It takes one to know one' I'm happy to take your word for that

To me, it looks like the picture goes uphill. Secondly that van on the right hand side appears to be driving on the left hand side so I'd say it was Britain.

I agree, whoever the scottish champions are? they should be as near as dammit straight into the champions league proper. A nations viewing figures should`nt even come into it, it did`nt when the competition was called the European Cup played over 2 legs between the real champions of each country. Money has taken away the integrity of the sport.

I totally agree, I say kick Liverpool out to make way for Celtic.

Wow bedwetter how obsessed are you, even talking about Liverpool in a Celtic thread?!! Well, seeing as we were 2nd not sure your post has any logic whatsoever except emphasising you are a brain dead t1t.

If you said the CL should be for champions only then I agree. But you didn't, you made another pathetic remark about Liverpool.
Really, deep down, you must love Liverpool as they occupy your every waking moment and you never move from the BF forum posting about them.

Legia were always going to be the worst draw for any of the seeded clubs over two legs. Only freak results last year stopped them being a seed for this round.
Even if Celtic go out at this stage they will manage to keep the seeding for this round next year.

The simple fact is most people want to see the best 32 teams in the group stages, not a pick and mix of charity selections based on making sure someone from Iceland, Albania or Ireland are there.
Objectively speaking it is debateable whether Celtic are among the top 100 teams in Europe, so I don't think they can expect any favours for winning the SPL, a league that they have skewed to their advantage by opting out of the CBA for tv rights.
If Celtic contributed to the creation of a competitive and better run league they might find achievements they had in such said league would confer some value at a continental level.

With celtic out of europe, playing in a league the same standard as league 2 in england, the question is - will Scott Brown finally have the balls to test himself in the english championship or even a lower premier league club?
no excuse not to leave now.

dont think brown will ever leave now , has it too easy up here
29 now he would struggle imo
think he cost like 4.5 million and hes in his prime now , so 10 million and he can go

Neil Lennon fully supports Celtic's wage structure, however, he has asked Desmond & Lawwell if they can make an exception for Gary Hooper.
Celtic's wage structure falls into six tiers, top tier being £25k a week. Only Scott Brown is believed to be in tier one. 2nd tier is £15-18k (Samaras, Ledley, Kayal, Izaguirre & Forster) Gary Hooper earns less than half of Scott Brown's wage.

we all know when we get a player and he plays well hes getting moved on anyway
has been like this really since o`neil left

£25k is pocket change for a EPL club. Brown could double his wages if he moves.
Martinez, Pulis and Redknapp have all made positive comments about Brown in the past.

im sure Brown could get a move while he is the right side of 30. He has the perfect excuse to leave, but does he have the balls?
is boerrigter on top wages?im sure Brown could get a move while he is the right side of 30. He has the perfect excuse to leave, but does he have the balls?
not sure if boerrigter gets good wages but id expect be at least 15-20k
i dont think he will move to epl imo he might if forced out but like i say has it easy up here
contract runs for another year and a half i think so see what happens as celtic wont want to lose him for free

If Celtic do go out of the CL, they need to make sure they have a run in the EL. If they don't they'll lose the seeding for the playoff round next year which makes it extremely difficult to qualify for the CL group stages.

A total of 62 teams play in the play-off round: 18 teams which enter in this round, the 29 winners of the third qualifying round, and the 15 losers of the Champions League third qualifying round. The draw will be held on 8 August 2014.[15]

Doubt it Celtic haven't a hope in hell of overturning the tie no matter where it was played. The team they beat 3-0 last year Karagandy were absolute garbage. Celtic are a poor, poor side.

selling parkhead was stupid i dont know how much they made , good on a whole for the east end though as it was a sh1t hole and i mean a real sh1t hole as you already know
you never know it could be overturned but very unlikely , no bet for me though ill either watch or be at the game hoping for a result

The 3-0 result last season was superb, it takes a lot of doing, no matter the opposition. BTW Shakthar Karagandy may be minnows but they would p1ss all over Legia Warsaw. Lawell has a lot to answer for, losing to those muppets.

No chance Plat. Karagandy were rubbish. First leg they just lumped the ball as long and high as they could and Celtic had 2 new CB's who had a nightmare. Weren't much better in the 2nd leg. Legia have 20 odd internationalists on their books and have spent a few quid.

Karagandy were always favourites in the first leg last year, the prices were stupid. It wasn't a bad result for Celtic out there but they were lucky to go through both legs.

They have to qualify for the Europa first. Should be seeded but there's some big ole clubs lurking in the non-seeded side.Torino, Feyenoord, Partizan, Dinamo Moscow, Rostov, Krasnodar, Zulte & Zwolle
Bring on Spaniards by the score. Barcelona, Real Madrid They may make their gallant bid. But they'll only find the reason why we roar.
I'd love to have a word with the clown that penned that.
