He has his critics but he had a 100% record in getting us to 3 tournaments each of which ended up with a quarter final place.  I'm not suggesting that we should get him back but we would kill for that type of record now.

Delusions of grandeur - England still think they're good enough to emulate 1990 and 1996.

I'd point out that Russia, South Korea and Turkey had also equalled these achievements in the World Cup since 1990 - yet their expectations are somewhat more reasonable.

much more to do with the quality of players available between then and now , most of us can pick out England,s finest ,more so now because there,s less to choose from
