I actually feel sorry for Roy Hodgson

yes he is a renowned manager for winning things at the highest level, the players have let him down.

the liverpool players that have thrived under brendan rodgers since he left and had good seasons look much better back under his care.

the organisation has been excellent and the team has gelled superbly as a unit both on and off the ball.

the players are just the worst batch ever and roy has really got the maximum effort and commitment from them

sorry england are no world beaters that's true, the young players have done nothing to date and have been hyped up as world class.


but i think roy has got a lot of the very basics wrong in this tournament too, he can't escape some of the blame.

I feel sorry for Woy because the children he took to the World Cup with relatively little experience of International football produced the inevitable results and he's on only on £3.5 million per year.

I think it's the players who have got some of the basics wrong.

Jagielka has been worse than useless in the two games so far. The goalkeeper below average. If Rooney had done his job against Italy Baines would not have been under so much pressure. The manager can only send the players out with instructions, if through incompetence or disregard do not carry out those instructions it is not the managers fault.

Rooney was out of position to accommodate a child with so few international caps you could count them on one hand and Baines has had two poor WC games which raises the question why wasn't Cole taken? Those are managerial decisions.

Rooney was out of position partly because his recent form for England has been lacklustre. If he was torturing defences and cracking them in every game, there wouldn't have been any question marks.

And that 'child' actually did pretty well. I'd suggest we looked better as a team with him in there than we did when Rooney was missing two of his three chances.  And I speak as a supporter of Rooney, by the way.

If Rooney played 30cm further to the left, would that make him in position?

Apparently, if he had played a little bit closer to the middle, he wouldn't have missed that rather straightforward chance to make it 2-2..

When setting up the team you accommodate the seasoned pro not the child.

Plan b was bring on another child, although immensely talented, and have him run through the opposition to score the equaliser. That might work on paper but old heads are invariably more reliable in a World Cup final cauldron.

The important thing is to put together a team that blends well, and that is made up of in-form players who all bring something to the game.

If you must 'accommodate' somebody, they had better be fantastically good. Age shouldn't come into it.

The man that followed him didn't do much better did he? 8th and 7th. and Cup defeat by Oldham. And he had Suarez unlike Hodgeson.

Do you think Suarez would not score goals under Hodgeson? Or Pirlo would start misplacing passes? Of course not.

The tactics seemed to work when we equalised in both games. We were let down by individual mistakes not team tactics.

I lay the blame pretty much entirely with Hodgson. Question: if Mourinho or Guardiola was in charge of that group of players, would they still have done as poorly as they did? Roy has to go, ridiculous that he keeps his job.

i'm not convinced under hodgson suarez would get the chances he has under BR as i doubt liverpool would play the same football

You can blame the manager all you like, England fans have been doing it for as long as I can remember, but the bottom line is England players are not good enough.

In both games England have had more and better possession than the opposition. Mistakes at the back, and not taking chances have been Englands downfall. Plus a bit of genius from a world class striker.

Let us not forget they were not favourites to win the group. We were pretty much relying in getting something out of an Italy game to progress. An Italy side who their own press described as useless.

It may turn out that Costa Rica and Uruguay were always the best two teams.

if the approach is wrong though you are fcuked whoever you play

we were wide open down the left against italy for an entire half of football it was more luck than judgement they did not make more of it. and we stood off them far too much. the team looks bereft of energy and ideas, players that have looked full of both for clubs.

Collectively the critics were happy with England after the Italy game seemingly having more attacking intent. In fact the England goal in that game was a classic team goal. Italy scored a winner not because of team tactics but because they were asleep at the corner.

I repeat. Teams whose best players are only average do not win World Cups. Even if those average players play as a team.

Roy never gives the impression he's on top of things does he ? comes across as a bit muddled sitting slumped on the bench is not a good look either.

you can only judge by comparing teams at the tournaments end,but what looked like a fair and only fair performance against italy has since been made to look a pretty poor show by costa rica,if the costa rica result had come 1st we,d have been getting pelters for the performance against italy ,but for a 1st game judges had italy down as a good side,think that was poo pooed by cassano been their 2nd choice striker who was bang average 10 yrs ago when he could run
