Poor from O'neil. clearly made to be feeling inadequate by two world cup winners and Cannavaro who didn;t know who he was, he brings out two European Cups when you had to play half as many games as you do today against sides mostly made up of nationals from that country instead of the multi national club sides today,
By:
yes and only consisted of league champions
By:
geezer's a bitter overrated boring little c&nt
By:
I'm sure playing the league champions of Sweden, Greece and Romania was tougher than playing the the Runners up of Italy or Spain
By:
mesmerised - It was the TRUE CHAMPIONS in those days. Why call it the Champions League when teams who finish 4th in their own league qualify? A joke of tournament now adays. It's only a money amking tool for Uefa and the BIG clubs.
By:
The old European Cup was much harder to win than the CL, which btw is just a moneymaking exercise.
By:
It's easier to qualify nowadays but much harder to do well that's for sure.
By:
i'd agree with that ICS

O`neil gave them a fat lip, well done Sir

If the Champions League is so much easier, how come no team has managed to win it two seasons running?
In my mind, a World Cup trumps two European Cups. |
By:
The EC had only champions and when talent was more evenly dispersed as most teams in it had the crack players from their own country. Every game was a hard game and there was no room for slip ups. I agree todays is much more about revenue than anything else. These days only the champions of Germany, Spain or England can realistically win it as all the best players reside in those leagues.
BTW MON was so funny in that, Chiles made to look like a real goon. |

By:
How many World Cups do you think Cannavaro and Vieira would have won if they'd been born in Northern Ireland?
By:
Very funny and clearly joking with the guys
By:
none, but oniel is a catholic, hes a mug for not switching alliences, would have won 1 then

No it's factually correct, and that clip of him and Robbie Williams is even worse, completely trying to destroy the poor lads confidence, he a slightly unhinged and insecure fella is O'neil As for the European Cup only being for Champions, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest played each other in 1978-1979 in Europe as Liverool were European Champions but finished second in the league - so it wasn't strictly for League Champions only. YOu only have to look at some of the cricket scores dished out to see how weak it was compared to know, Real Madrid 12-0 and 5-0 v Progrès Niedercorn (who? ), Grasshoppers 13-3 and 8-0 v Valletta (malta ffs), Dynamo Dresdens 6-0 Bohemians, Ajax 16-2 and 8-1 v HJK (Sixteen) , Omonia, 7-3 Red Boys Differdange, Ajax 10-4 v Omonia and that was just in those two seasons. |

O'Neill, Viera and even Cannavaro come across ok. As well as the punditry they seem to like a laugh. Better than the boring BBC imo.
Mind you Chiles is a grade A ****. |

Mesmerised, once again you make yourself look a complete idiot.
You are clearly not old enough to remember football pre-1990, so your opinion of the relative difficulty in winning the European Cup across eras is based on...er...what exactly? What you read in a book? Of course there were weak teams in those days, all the UEFA countries had one representative only - except in the case you mentioned above when Liverpool qualified as holders rather than League Champions. But that hasn't changed, except these days you have the nonsense of teams qualifying for the tournament every year without ever having a realistic prospect of winning it - I'm sure you could probably name such an example off the top of your head. ![]() ![]() |
By:
might have been the other way round with liverpool, I'm sure your reference book will fill you in.
By:
lol once again you've all you can do is launch yourself into yet another petulant rant, it was a lot easier then, a lot harder now, it's very simple stuff, probably too simple for the likes of you, mug.

Problem in those days was a trip to Dynamo Kiev was a gruelling long haul, with all the exertions involved, not hopping on a private plane, playing, and back home same day.
Much harder test to win the European Cup back in the Liverpool era. Before you comment, I support Stenhousemuir ![]() |
