Fifa president Sepp Blatter claims allegations surrounding the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid are motivated by racism.
Qatar was chosen as host in December 2010 but corruption claims have prompted Fifa to begin an inquiry.
"There is a sort of storm against Fifa relating to the Qatar World Cup," Blatter said. "Sadly there's a great deal of discrimination and racism."
Fifa will rule on the validity of the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in September or October.

Of course Sepp addressing a load of African delegates and calling the Times article racist has absolutely nothing to do with him wanting their votes for his re-election.
Also this bit makes me laugh: "Fifa will rule on the validity of the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in September or October. At that point, the president of football's world governing body said, the "matter will be closed". Does anyone really envisage any outcome other than FIFA ruling that the bidding was fair? |

enough of the world cup profits and other monies are distributed amongst the minor football nations to ensure he wins hands down dunno why the big european countries say we ain't going to qatar under any circumstances. would kill it stone dead just like that |

Knowing you won't win and not standing, however, are two very different things. Sepp Blatter and the fact that nobody stands against him makes Fifa an autocracy.

Oh the irony! Thankfully some big corporate sponsors are flexing muscles over the Qatar situation. These are the only people that Blatter / FIFA will listen to. If you think FIFA is a democracy I've got some glass hammers to sell you. |

FIFA is based in Switzerland. If they are up to anything illegal it is the Swiss authorities who should feel his collar.
If the Sunday Times has proof that corruption was involved the UK's police could always start detaining FIFA officials at airports or issue international arrest warrants. Remember Paul the octopus chose England! |

maybe somebody should start a petition to the FA to withdraw from the Qatar world cup, and offer to host another unofficial world cup in the traditional months of june & july, to any other country who wishes to play in that rather than wreck their traditional domestic seasons...
im sure there would be a great deal of sponsors wishing to back this idea, and quite a few countries who would already welcome the idea for somebody to have the b@lls to go ahead with it... SAY NO TO QATAR 2022 |

A schism of the type suggested would ultimately be bad for football and I'm not sure how many countries would go with a breakaway organisation. It's never that simple and England are not that popular to be in the vanguard of such a seismic shift in the power-base of world football.
However, money (i.e sponsors) talk and some reform and blood letting should be the very least of the result of the questions now being asked by Coca Cola, Hyundai , Sony etc |

During the meeting Blatter is said to have told delegates that he wanted to continue as Fifa president in next year's election. He was challenged directly by Michael Van Praag, president of the Dutch FA, who told the 78-year-old that he believed it was not right that he should continue on past 2015. FA chairman Greg **** is said to have challenged Mr Blatter also on his claims to African delegates on Monday that allegations made against Qatar 2022 were motivated by racism and discrimination. |

That video is brilliant. Love the bit about non-profit organisation FIFA having £1billion of profits, its tax exemption in host countries, and changing the laws of whichever country it hosts the World Cup in.
