If not, why not? Considering the fact he is
being touted for Manager of the year, surely
he has the credentials to take ManU forward.
Vies?

Tony Pulis would do a hell of a job at united sad that he wont be given a chance.
Report kenilworth April 22, 2014 12:23 PM BST
I think I agree with Howdi, he knows the game inside
out and is no more devious than Ferguson ever was.

He'd  certainly  put the prima donnas  in the right frame of mind or get rid.
Then make them into a winning side
Report kenilworth April 22, 2014 1:44 PM BST
Why then, does he have no chance?
Report Can't Catch Me April 22, 2014 1:53 PM BST
He's never won anything. Showing you are well equipped at keeping a side up, or out performing their perceived ability, is a completely different skill to winning trophies. See countless examples like Roy Hodgson and obviously David Moyes.

Everyone agreed Moyes did a fantastic job at Everton, but plenty rightfully pointed out, Utd were mad to take the risk on him.

Who knows what Pulis could do given the chance, but its another huge risk. One Utd cant afford to take at this juncture imo. They need a proven winner with a proven track record, who can attract top names.

Fergie of Aberdeen was the Pulis of today,
and he knocked them into shape then, why
not now?
Report jed.davison April 22, 2014 4:57 PM BST
Fergie broke a duopoly that had lasted for 100 years. Pulis kept Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Hardly similar achievements.

CCM just gave you the correct explanation. Say thank you and start another pointless thread.

For the record Pulis did more than rescue Palace, but also
rescued Stoke from the bottom half of the second level and
left them around the safety of mid place in the Premier ship.
Just in case anyone failed to notice.

I wonder where Fergie and/or Stoke would if he had taken
the same job that Pulis took at the time?

last week - Kennys thread - "Pulis manager of the year? Has the Premier league sunk to that level?"

This week Kenny - "Yes... he has the credentials... I think I agree with Howdi, he knows the game inside out and is no more devious than Ferguson ever was."

shurly shome mishtake - or is ken just looking for an argument ? surely not

Ferguson at Aberdeen did way more than Pulis et al  . He made them probably one of the top 10 sides in Europe .

You may be right in implying Fergie would not have done as well as Pulis at Stoke

CCM is right too though . Managers like Pulis/Moyes/Allardyce/Hodgson have a basic skillset that makes them well equipped to take a crap team and turn them into average teams.

They specialize ( as we have learnt from some of the leaks about Moyes ) in 8 hours a week of defensive drills , ring binders with 'setpieces' , work ethic  , 'making it difficult' for the opposition ( basically damage limitation ) .

This sort of approach , when efficiently applied , gives you a team that can win most games vs the weakest sides , holds it's own with average sides , and avoids 5 or 6 goal thrashings  by the best teams.

It never will cut it at the highest level though , the ceiling for it is 6th/7th in the league .
Report jed.davison April 23, 2014 2:13 AM BST
I don't like Allardyce any more than the next man, but I'm telling you straight he's a full-on alchemist. How the team he took over at West Ham has survived two seasons in the Premiership is a miracle. If he was Man City manager, they'd never lose a game.
Report kenilworth April 23, 2014 8:37 AM BST
tobermory, you will never know how far the likes you mention
unless they have the best players to work with. Trouble is,
the top sides don't have the nerve to try with those hard
working managers for long enough and blink first when things
don't go well straight away. They nned a big name at the top.

I had my tongue firmly in my cheek when I started this thread
but the response has been interesting. It's as much about
charisma as it is about ability it seems.

"I had my tongue firmly in my cheek when I started this thread" - you had it somewhere Kenny luv, but not in your cheek
