Roy Hodgson has named a 30-man squad for the game with Denmark at Wembley next week.

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Cardiff City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Forwards: Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Jay Rodriguez (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Daniel Welbeck (Manchester United)

How the hell are Cleverley and Welbeck in there? And i must've missed Caulker's outstanding defensive displays for Cardiff. Also 4 keepers and no place for Adam Johnson who's been superb since xmas.

I hope a journo asks Hodgson at the first press conference "what exactly has Cleverley done this season to earn his selection"

Surely gareth barry is in better form then nearly all those midfielders? lampard Laugh
Report Captain Christy February 27, 2014 5:59 PM GMT
Why does he pick Townsend who's been useless for ages? Oh yeah, he plays in London of course..
Report mesmerised February 27, 2014 6:08 PM GMT
I know you're a bit dim Captain Inbred but there only 7 London based players in the squad, that's 23.3%, and one of the strikers plays in a mickey mouse league 5000 miles away, some logic you doughnut.
Report arrested development February 27, 2014 7:21 PM GMT
The only consistently excellent English player in the league all season ignored by wOY ... quite incredible.  Barry may as well retire tomorrow if Hodgson picks that crew of has beens and never will be's before him.
Report morpteh mackem February 27, 2014 7:42 PM GMT
forwards are perhaps worst ever selected, only sturridge is any semblance of form and he can be a headless chicken.
Report arrested development February 27, 2014 8:14 PM GMT
You can understand the selection of most of the forwards though as there is a paucity of quality behind Rooney and Sturridge,  although surely a place could be made for Johnson by dropping one of them ....

Gareth Barrys omission is laughable to the point of being unprofessional however.  I'm not even English and it irritates me !
Report G Hall February 27, 2014 8:15 PM GMT
with all due respect, but when you have 4 players from a club like Southampton in the England squad (and probably 3 starters)you know things are not good.
Report morpteh mackem February 27, 2014 8:18 PM GMT

Report donny osmond February 28, 2014 8:25 AM GMT
the problem is the lack of players who are not in the squad

Report kincsem February 28, 2014 8:34 AM GMT
Drop anyone in their 30s (except goalkeepers)
That would be a start.
Take them to a secluded World Cup training camp.
Keep the fittest 23.  Drop the rest.
Report jermaine defonebox February 28, 2014 8:35 AM GMT
Ward prowse as well   I'm just thinking on the spot and there's a dozen in form players ignored .
The man is old and thinks old

Report jermaine defonebox February 28, 2014 8:39 AM GMT
What f uck do we need 4 keepers for and then ignore some of the most exciting players we have had in years.
Report donny osmond February 28, 2014 8:43 AM GMT
maybe hes going to play 2 x 7 a side games in training so needs 4 keepers
Report jermaine defonebox February 28, 2014 9:02 AM GMT
That should achieve a lot donLaugh
I thought it was quite obvious the old guard will never win anything apart from rio and JT who is probably the only old soldier who should be considered looks the same old rubbish .
Milner ffs. And to even think of a utd player Rooney included is beyond me.
Didn't he say he would always pick players on form whatever club.
Doesn't seem like it.
He's bound to wreck Barkley as he's only 60% fit why not keep him back so others don't see what we have.
