It may be a hoax but when you list the company publicly you open it up to this sort of speculation.
The business plan is shot. They're staring at worst case scenario and have to make up the shortfall. Sacking the manager may be the easiest way to placate the shareholders in the short term in the same way as any CEO of a failing PLC gets the chop. |

Or could it be murmurs that the board aren't happy with him. Because the price doesn't suggest he's gone, it seems to suggest he could be gone soon though. |

Does anyone really think that Moyes will be sacked before the end of the season? I just don't think that a club like united would go through that after he was chosen by Ferguson, and he has said sacking managers is not the way to go.
Odds against to be there til the end of the season - seems a decent bet I think - going out of the CL is the worst thing as they can concentrate on the league. |

xoxo, you're ignoring the financial implications.
The Glazer's strategy was based on CL income servicing the debt. NYSE investor are going to be out of pocket with no visible means of rectifying the situation. The Glazers either throw up their hands and admit their incompetence (and get removed) or lay the blame on Moyes. |

hippie: Interesting - obviously being a PLC then the share price is the most important thing to the Glazers etc. That being said I don't think they would have expected to win the CL with the remaining teams in there and especially with the form United are in at the moment. As Moyes has been promised money to invest in the Summer and has given Nani and Rooney new contracts, and signed Mata it seems unlikely that a club like United would get rid of Moyes especially mid-season.
I'm interested thoughts on this because even if they finish in 10th are they really going to sack him? Who else could they get in? |

It's too late to do anything this season, the campaign is a write off, so i don't think he'll be sacked now. I think he'll be backed in the summer and we'll see a huge overhaul of their squad. Vidic, Rio, Evra, RVP, Valencia, Cleverley, Hernandez, Anderson, Buttner, Kagawa will likely all leave. And if results aren't good in August/September then he'll be sacked. I'd be very surprised if it's sooner than that.

The Glazers took control with borrowed money using a leveraged buyout - a risky archaic, failed technique that leaves them open to disgruntled partners.
United don't have to win the CL but they have to be in it year on year to make the Glazer plan work. If I was a NYSE institutional investor I would be asking some serious questions in a couple of hours time about the safety of my investment. As for managers, it would madness to give anyone a contract so close to a World Cup in the knowledge that the likes of Van Gaal and Prandelli are looking for new jobs afterwards. |

poss, they could cover that by saying giggs and saf for example, but if it's about steadying the ship and restoring confidence to the nyse then that's their best option

United just recently announced record turnover and sponsorship deals so i think they can probably afford to go a year or 2 without CL football. The problem with that is obviously the longer they're out of it, the harder it'll be to attract top signings and get back into it.

What has Moyes done to deserve a £200m transfer budget this summer. Do you believe he is the right guy to overhaul the squad? We're talking about a guy here who paid £27.5m for Fellaini and doesn't play him, and £37.1m for Mata to play him out of position on the wing.

Well i don't believe he was the right manager in the first place so no he's probably not the man to overhaul the squad. However he is there, he is 'the chosen one' as that ridiculous banner states and i think Fergie and the Glazers will back him.
As for getting rid now and getting an interim boss in, if the season is as good as over then what's the point of getting an interim manager in? They can still search for a new manager whilst Moyes is in charge. Otherwise they have to pay Moyes off and then pay an interim boss who the players will know won't be there next season. |

i think they will stick with him for next season, he'll get a chance to rebuild but i would be surprised if they accept another year like this
i hope he stays for 5 years, i can see them in the championship ..... |

It becomes difficult to publicly search for a new manager while Moyes is still in the job. Hardly great ethics.
It's not like an interim can come in and screw it up. Moyes is dragging everything about the club down atm, the players, the fans, the atmosphere, at least an interim who the fans like will boost most of these things, so even if the results don't change, morale is boosted going into the next season. |

The Glazers are vulnerable and need to convince the New York money men they know what they're doing. If I was a Gordon Gekko type I would be planning my takeover strategy round about now....

The problem with give him £200m to spend theory so he can build his own squad, then if he doesn't make that work sack him. That leaves us in an infinitely worse position than now. We do that, he takes us to 6th or 7th then what? We sack him, and now the next manager probably has an average squad and no money to spend.
I don't see how anyone could possibly see Moyes as having the solutions based on so far. It's been a disaster from day 1, there's no sign of any improvement, any idea he's getting to grips with the job, so why should I believe he can turn it around. |
