Hear me out. The league table might be tightly bunched but a lot of the football itself has been nothing less than abysmal. Only Liverpool have played football worth watching on a regular basis. Man City have shown glimpses of entertainment but just about every other side has played attritional, negative football week after week. I can't remember the last game I really enjoyed.
Glossy is right. This season will be the dullest ... until next season etc etc.
It's rather like FA Cup Finals of the 1980's and earlier when David Coleman would announce "record gate receipts". Every successive year produced record gate receipts, presumably because the ticket price was dearer than the year before's. So by the same token, next season will be duller than this, as under achieving players earn more, subsidised by mug fans blindly continuing to pay through the nose for the dross football and accessories, and the standard generally gets worse and worse.

PS Seems every match discussed to death by the TV pundits should, in their view, "be a cracker" (or similar). What they should be and what they are differ dramatically.

The toon villol game was fun, by the end, the villol defence were staggering around like drugged elephants that just stepped off a fast moving roundabout.

not even close to the dullest, if you want to call this season dull then you'll need to point towards others that have been more exciting. Please tell me which ones have been better

Last season The Premiership was absolutly dire, Man Utd are playing exactly the same as they did last season, very averagely, but they won the League last season, because the League was rubbish, with loads of poor sides. This year Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, have played really well, Man City play well, but only at home. Everton and Tottenham have played as well, as they can. The League is still poor, but not as poor as last year.

The promotion/relegation is getting closer because more teams have become cr..p
Even the top sides are dropping off at an alarming rate and allowing the other sides to catch up.
As usual , once the "world beaters" like City etc enter europe they get their ars..s handed to them.
Its interesting/exciting but then again so is local Sunday league football.

I agree with everything you say apart from;
Sunday league is not interesting/exciting, hence nobody watches it. Who are you quoting when you say Man City are world beaters? English clubs don't usually get their ars..s handed to them, they've appeared in 7 of the last 9 CL finals.
Who are the top sides and who is catching up? By the looks of the things 3 of the usual 4 look like they will qualify for the CL, with Liverpool replacing United this year.
And can you quantify "more teams have become cr..p"? Arsenal and Chelsea look stronger under new management, as do Everton. And Liverpool and Arsenal also seem to be playing better football. The only team that looks noticeably worse this year is United.

not many goals on tv coverage last week ,pretty bad for viewing , need a change to help forwards score more .. tried 3 points score draws fell by wayside not challenge goalkeeper ...needs a line 20 yards from goals ,.... only offside after that , all would help get game back on track ...tv money has ruined game that us older people knew ...some all seating will have to go ,for fans to stand like before . wages 300k a week makes me chuckle .... on and on it goes ..another no England world team winners in our lifetime . . no players at top table ... sometimes 2 only players in premiership games .lower teams hit panic button beat 3 or 4 games and in lower regions of the league ...parachute helps if not good enough ??

I don't think goals are an issue jim (as a Liverpool fan it certainly hasn't been for us). There is a much bigger stretch now between the haves and have nots. The top clubs are getting further and further away. The only thing stopping them getting further clear is through bad signings (Tottenham) or poor management (Utd). When you get past the top 6 (Everton are batting way above their level and may find themselves slipping down as you can't base your season on loan signings each year), you find the focus now is largely on staying up. The UEFA Cup is now a complete no-no for a lot of clubs who have seen the problems it causes, a lot of clubs aren't too interested in cup runs either. Therefore, the only interest is finishing between 7th and 17th - doesn't particularly matter where. That's why we're seeing more clustering imo.

Are you a Liverpool fan by any chance? How can Everton be batting above their level? They're 7th at the moment, and they've finished around that position for the last 10 years. They've had 3 main loan signings this season. Lukaku initially had a major impact but has scored once in the last 3 months, Deulofeu is a very good player but hasn't played much, which leaves Barry. He has been probably their best loan signing and will be available on a free in the summer.

ours for keeps good post .... must be pleased Liverpool have opened up and playing and scoring well..a breath of fresh air I'm sure . your manager had a mixed bag last season ,,before getting the bit in his teeth now . all the guys under pepe g's hands are mainly doing well above average at managing game ??? ONLY 6 teams are on + double figures in goals for ....funnily most leagues on much same lines ' spurs looked average yesterday ,...can't get my head round loan players in premiership .. no value in club's ..shop window .. ? rooney attracts money ...even palace fans throwing money in his direction ,, thought 300k , was more than enough ?

I am and they've been batting above their level for several years. Kudos to Moyes and it got him a big move. Barry won't be cheap one way or the other and you can't tell me that a business plan based on loans and unearthing and flogging gems is sustainable long term. My guess is that either Coleman or Barkley will be sold and the money given to Martinez. When you look at the ages of Distin, Jagielka, Barry, Osman, Pienaar and then Howard, Baines then they have a lot of good players with little resale value that will need replacing soon. There's little margin for error there and their prospects are based on hope that Martinez will prove as canny as Moyes rather than expectation.

"I am and they've been batting above their level for several years"
As you rightly say, it's now several years so you can hardly call it batting above their level. It IS their level.

Most people judge levels by either transfer expenditure or salary levels. Either way I think Everton have regularly finished higher than where they would on either of those rankings. That's what I meant.

Most enjoyable. Liverpool playing the best football i can remember (including 08/09) and Utd playing the worst. Just need to get top 4 and Chelsea not win and im happy.
