these are the odds

Man City 2.96
Draw 3.60
Barcelona 2.56

Thats not so far off right IMO , but i'd have them a bit closer and draw looks the value

Will City really go 4-4-2 here though Scared  Think they may have to adjust

People talking about formations are missing the key thing.
People taking about the sending off are also missing the key thing.

The key thing is that Barca are much better than City at football.

The best result City could have got out of that was a 0-0. They always get maulicated over two legs.

I personally thought Barcelona were pretty average tonight. The old Barca would have gone for the kill and knocked in 3 or 4 after the penalty. Navas gets the blame for the goal, and how much City do rely on Aguero ?

Another horror show on the cards tomorrow from an English side.

The old Barca usually played a lot worse than that away from home in CL.

Report mega88 February 18, 2014 10:27 PM GMT
City are great in prem league, not so with giants. City performance rests on pellegrinis shoulders, they could have done better, very defensive and bad tactics an team choice. Obviously could have done with Augero, didnt see what all the fuss was about fernandinho,  negrado is good but goes awol a lot and needs feeding balls, nasri a great player. Barca are a class above city no doubt. Not the best barca performance but the defense looked better, is it puyol glad he didnt play, bit tighter at the back. Danny alvis loves getting forward. They started to up the anti towards the end, could have easily been 0-4, bad tactics by pelligrini, I rest the blame on him, not that i care as i follow barca. Xavi losing the shine though. Barca magic still there LoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLoveLove
Report ian merseyside February 19, 2014 1:29 AM GMT
City seemed happy with a 0-0 from the start and happy with the 0-1 when they went down to 10 men.  Now Pelligreni says they will have to go for it in the 2nd leg.....here's a daring thought, how about if they had gone for it from the off????  Barca's only weakness is when teams go after them as they are not great at defending.  Valencia beat them at the Nou Camp recently by doing just that and City are a far better side than Valencia.  Pellegrini got it totally wrong.
Report YOMOMMA February 19, 2014 1:38 AM GMT
Football does my nut in. Referees ruin so many games. Was not a penalty as initial contact was outside the box. Don't know why they don't make use of video replays.

Tennis has benefitted no end from hawk eye technology. Time for an overhaul for football to bring it in to the modern era.
Report high_lander February 19, 2014 10:51 AM GMT
Pellegrini made a huge mistake playing defensively against Barcelona last night. It's the worst thing you can do. He should have went 4-4-2 and went at them from the off. Sitting back and inviting them to attack you is asking for trouble. Terrible tactics. The worse possible tactics in fact.
Report padlock February 19, 2014 10:58 AM GMT
poor manager tactics for sure,braindead
Report high_lander February 19, 2014 11:03 AM GMT
Why give up possession to a side who love to have lots of possession? Why not go at them and keep them on the back foot. City were at home but they played like they were the away team. I wonder if Pellegrini, like so many of his countrymen, have an inferiority complex when coming up against Barcelona and Real Madrid? City played like a team who were afraid.
Report Biscuit1979 February 19, 2014 11:03 AM GMT
Could've gone the other way though high lander. If he'd attacked Barca from the off and they'd been done on the break then people would've said he was mad to go all out attack against them.

Yes they invited pressure on and let Barca have the ball but you couldn't say Barca were creating much. Hart didn't have much to do, one long range shot from Xavi was about it. I think he was happy to take a 0-0 and then go for an away goal in the Nou Camp.
Report high_lander February 19, 2014 11:08 AM GMT
Biscuit, I'm not saying go all out attack. You can attack and keep pressure on the opposition without playing recklessly. It seemed to me that City were on the back foot from the off. They handed the psychological advantage to Barca by changing their team and style of play. Pellegrini might as well have come out and said "we know you are better than us." If you are a strong home team in Europe you do not change your style of play for any team. That was very weak from Pellegrini
Report Biscuit1979 February 19, 2014 11:11 AM GMT
Yeah i see your point but City went 442 v Bayern and look what happened so that was obviously in Pellgrini's mind.

I also think City having Demichelis, a half fit Fernandinho and Nasri and no Aguero didn't help them either.
Report Help2 February 19, 2014 11:21 AM GMT

Report high_lander February 19, 2014 11:21 AM GMT
Nah City played 4-4-1-1 but more importantly they did not commit themselves to attack. They should have went at the opposition and kept them on the back foot, if possible. Maybe it wouldn't have made any difference, Barca were excellent. But at least City could have had a proper go.
Report Coachbuster February 19, 2014 7:10 PM GMT
Man city will probably hold out for a 0-0 draw at the Camp

that's how these games go - Barca won't be winning 4 or 5-0 ,that's for certain

they might have to  drop Hart though  Grin
