Probably Grant Holt. I'm an Ipswich fan so for obvious reasons (desite not playing for those Canaries anymore!)

Shola Ameobi, up there as one of the worst players that has played the game. Had a career in the top league all his life, the mind boggles.

Jack Wilshere is the best English player there currently is, I asked this the other day - who is better ? name me on English player who has more talent and more potential? He has a very good chance of being the man of the tournament come Brazil, given he hasn't played a full season he'll be fresher than most. Was man of the match for England against Brazil and man of the match agsint Barcelona, that's the quality we're talking about here.
Posters like Mr0braincells is obviously jealous of such a young precocious talent, he's probably a Jock.
Agree about the distastefulness of players do the rounds at local children's hospitals come Christmas in front of the camera's, for all we know they could more often than we think but to drag the cameras around on a nauseating publicity stunt is pretty low.

I posted a a thread on Wilshere to show people I am serious but can't find it, the kid has just got it, he's had a run of little niggles and injuries but his raw ability is there for all to see. Only a matter of time before Barca put a bid in for him when Xavi's legs pack up, they take most of our good players.
I think Wilshere is a fine player but England may not even get out of their group fella, very touch and go. It is not like they are a team brim full of confidence.
memserised - you say you dislike Rooney and that he is over-hyped and what has he ever done to warrant praise then you give Wilshere the accolade of greatest current English player and say he can be the player of the world cup. So i'll ask you waht has Wilshere ever done to warrant such praise. One good game v Barca and winning MOTM on a friendly seems to be about it.
Rooney has won league titles, cups, a champions league, been a star performer at a European championship and been a top premier league player for a decade. I'm yet to see anything other than 'potential' from Wilshere, but so far that's all it is.

Wilshere is the weakest tackler I've ever seen, falls over whenever someone makes the slightest contact screaming for a foul. Best of a bad lot though apart from that.

Ability wise, I can't see any better English player, his control of the ball when running at pace, seeing and making a daisy cutting pass a la Fabregas and positional awareness makes him stand out. If he played to his best on a consistent basis you'd know what I was talking about, but injuries have prevented him. He is no Tom Cleverly of Jordan Henderson. The reason why you see him going down easily is because it's subconscious reflex, he's scare to get hurt again and wants the refs protection.
I can see why people dislike him, he has the face of someone you'd want to smack if he got on the right side of you.
