How can a group of death contain England?
Report Darlo Bantam December 6, 2013 9:52 PM GMT
Group of death is such a bulls**t phrase anyway. Same amount of teams go through from any group.
Report Nilsson Schmilsson December 6, 2013 9:52 PM GMT

Report Darlo Bantam December 6, 2013 9:56 PM GMT
Didn't realise this until last night but Scotland were in the original group of death.

I think that they have noticed that Suarez is playing and dies about ten times per game then gets up ....

If you go by the FIFA rankings it is the second toughest group on paper. Having said that FIFA rankings are not renowned for their accuracy.

What's happened is that for the first time in history, England haven't got a p1ss weak group, and the pundits, media, fans are all terrified and getting their excuses in early. It's a tough group, but a million miles from a group of death Laugh
Report ian merseyside December 7, 2013 12:56 AM GMT
I think this could have been much harder, definitely not a "group of death".  We could have got Brazil/Spain/Germany instead of Uruguay and Cameroon/USA instead of Costa Rica.  We could easily win this group by drawing with Italy and beating the other two.  Uruguay are not as good as they were in 2010.
Report sonofshinner December 7, 2013 7:14 AM GMT
if england were in with Hartlepool it would be a group of death.lol.
Report bigH December 7, 2013 7:34 AM GMT
It doesn't matter what group we are in - we will still be abject and back home before the knockout stages
Report sonofshinner December 7, 2013 8:33 AM GMT
anything can happen in cup competitions, but it never happens for england.

It might be something to do with the hotel food.  They go on about that sort of stuff every world cup.

So you would not prefer to be with a top, top team but 2 easier teams?

Report Platini December 7, 2013 11:54 AM GMT
Draw with Italy realistic (both will take a draw, esp in conditions).
You ain't beating Uruguay (a draw would be some achievement)
so it's all down to beating Costa Rica and relying on other results.

Manaus is 4 hours different and Sao Paulo is 2 hours apparently.
Report Alias December 7, 2013 1:15 PM GMT
yorker, I wasn't trying to p1ss take. I read a little about the times differences and they seem to have 2 hour changes as opposed to one in most parts of the world. In June e.g, the difference with BST is I think 5 hours. (Manaus) Bizarre.

Report Darlo Bantam December 7, 2013 2:01 PM GMT
You'll never beat two groups at the 1982 World Cup - England, West Germany, Spain and then Brazil, Argentina, Italy.
Report FredRescue December 7, 2013 2:04 PM GMT
Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina, East Germany 1974 imo
Report Darlo Bantam December 7, 2013 2:07 PM GMT
Ai. Tough. These young 'uns don't know easy they have it.
Report yorker789 December 7, 2013 3:05 PM GMT
No problem just trying to figure out the times, group of death is a load of rubbish, you play who you get drawn and no point complaining imo
Report ian merseyside December 7, 2013 3:23 PM GMT
Those 1982 groups were 2nd stage.  We had already qualified from a group with France, Czech and an African side (Egypt I think).
Report Impossible_is_nothing December 7, 2013 3:30 PM GMT
Unless Mourinho or Guardiola take over then England will be out before knockout stages.
Report wallis December 7, 2013 3:54 PM GMT
I see they have brought the ko back to 11pm GMT.
Report yorker789 December 7, 2013 3:59 PM GMT
Yes 1982 2nd stage was different to now,England  went out unbeaten, never even lost on penalties to anyone,Kuwait was the team from the first stage.
Report FredRescue December 7, 2013 4:13 PM GMT
Yeah but only because the draw in 1982 was **** to somehow decide England deserved to be a seeded team.
