Its pushed Aitor Karanka out to a decent price, if he has the choice between the two clubs he has spoken to then surely he would choose Palace over Boro?
Report bananaoasis November 8, 2013 8:52 AM GMT

If Steve Gibson feels that Karanka is the man for the job then he can be very persuasive. As a club, Boro do still have a lot to offer as far as potential goes. But i do know Karanka is not the only one they are interested in.

I don't, but given the weight of money that backed him I would not lay him at 2.2-2.5.  I certainly would not suggest to others that he is a super lay unless I actually had firm knowledge which I am guessing you don't have.

Report henok November 8, 2013 3:47 PM GMT
it was weight of money, which drove the price of pulis and coleman to evens and below previously. what is differnt about this particular money. and that can not be used as a justification for not laying if you are experienced gambler.

just to clarify my reasoning for laying karanks is that he is not experianced enough, doesnt speak english. from what i heard and read the owners of crystal palace dont seem to be the type who prefer fancy managers from foreign countries. so considfering the other managers who were backed to evens this one seems to be the super lay of all 3.
Report bananaoasis November 8, 2013 3:57 PM GMT
They (the owners) have been looking at the Southampton model and have decided that speaking english doesn't really matter Wink

The reason for the price on Karanka is one of the Palace co chairman has confirmed on a supporters forum that Karanka is flying over for talks next week.

Doesn't matter really, henok said he's a super lay and the price plunges again.  It could be something to do with this:

"It could be the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning. I won't deny that article but I can tell you that nobody has actually been offered the job yet. We are really doing our homework on this appointment.

That really is all I should say now. I think I should keep quiet now."

The toongerines look safe and they can keep their manager atm

well the article in question which the fan asked about and he didn't den is this, for ththe record i layed Coleman @ 1.7 for a few quid just because there was a load of threads on the forums saying they don't want him because he wanted Cardiff to go up then Palace in a tv interview.

Didn't Palace say after Holloway went that they wanted someone with premier league experience? A spaniard who's never managed at all, never mind managed here, wouldn't exactly fit that criteria.
Report chandla1980. November 8, 2013 4:33 PM GMT
That is what i thought but the massive change in price must mean people are in the know.

Lets face it Palace are down, they are pretty much the Derby County of this season.

Get this Karanka in, he has no premier league experience but he has contacts at Real Madrid and contacts at Chelsea with Mourinhio, how good is that for picking up the young players on loan who can't get in the 1st team.Pick up 3 players from each team on loan next year and they could walk the championship without spending any cash.
Report subversion November 8, 2013 4:39 PM GMT
chandla, given that one of the biggest weaknesses at Palace after Freedman left was the scouting network (Holloway didnt seem to have a clue in this area, hence the difficulty signing any decent players)

what you say makes a lot of sense.

Hiring a manager (coach) just for his contacts would be beyond absurd.  How did that end up for Preston North End?

Parish does mention Mourinho randomly in interviews and seems to have some sort of infatuation with the man so I can see him actually hiring Karanka.  Apparently bid a large amount of money to have lunch with Mourinho at some event recently as well.
Report bananaoasis November 8, 2013 6:33 PM GMT
Could be a good move. A foreign coach with ideas on how to bring technically better footballers to the club, infatuation with one of the greatest managers of recent years... Could be worse, could be infatuated with Sean O'Driscoll Laugh
