this is a thread for football people who know the next few years at man u is going to be very bleak

who is rooney kidding with this quote

rooney quote "We had a whole new set-up and different ideas from the manager," he said.

"It was up to us to try and implement them.

"It was a bit of a change but we're starting to show the things that the manager wants.

"There are only nine or 10 games gone so there's no big worry at the moment.

"We're starting to do well. We're confident at the minute, we're getting more clean sheets and playing with freedom.

"If we can get the victory on Sunday then we're in a great position."

cracks me up...just beaten an horrific stoke team and made hard work of it

then they beat an equally poor team in fulham

in between they have played a team in sociedad who are one of the worst team in spain at the moment... and they have turned the corner no no no you haven't

2 good players and no real investment for many years now

what will happen when they don't make the champs league this year?? rooney will be gone as will van persie...ask yourselves the question then, what good player is going to want to play for them then??...they couldn't attract a world class player this year... what is going to happen when they miss the champs league this season??

then you come to the manager who was almost begging to buy players before the transfer window shut...couldn't give the money away?? why because he is a nobody...who are they going to attract i ask under moyes??

bringing players out of retirement is a joke and just shows how thin this squad is...probably one of the worst midfields in the league imo...carrick isn't a man u player and what else they got??...dug scholes out of retirement...now relying on a 40year old man u great to try and dig them out the manure again a joke... fellaini i'll crack the jokes, did anyone watch him hiding behind other players the other night in sociedad lol...they are now reliant on rooney and van persie to win them matches which they were last year tbf... injuries will be key with these 2

then we come to the defence vidic is becoming a sicknote and ferdinand similar...jones isn't great and evra doesn't look happy

this next few years is going to be a long and painful experience for man u fans and it will become a very painful one if the champs league isn't made this year

moyes looked more relaxed the other night and who wouldn't be after the great recent results against fulham, stoke and sociedad to give him confidence

many years of no investment in man u imo will bring this club crumbling down in the next 5 years...feel sorry for moyes as he is on a hiding to nothing but he will need to be a miracle worker to sort this debacle out, which hasn't just started happening...this is many years of decay at the club but now it is just starting to bare out in the results and a thread bare squad which has not been invested in for many many years now

i remember the great liverpool team was allowed to decay for years without decent constant investment and non replacement of good players...the same thing is occurring with man u imo...full of squad players not good enough to wear the shirt

this is just the start of the nightmare for me...

this is the dream (or nightmare depending on your POV) scenario that was always likely from the moment the club was bought with borrowed money

failure to reach the UCL could cause financial meltdown and player exodus

Always have a chuckle when I see threads like this......snd I m a United fan who actually lives in Manchester.

Of course there have been other great teams in the past who have dominated for a while , and then slid down the pecking order. Why is that ? Because that is the nature of the beast!! The big difference nowadays is that United are more of a " brand " than a football team......this simply wasnt the case when Liverpool were so successful under Shankly and Paisley etc. Strip away all the hype that surrounds the premiership, and what you have is a very tepid sport all round...no passion. no soul.

Man U are far too rich to fail, if they ever need to improve the squad to keep up with the others then it would be very easy for them to raise £100m+ for new players. If things continue as they are then I'm sure that will happen, for dominant teams in the past this was not possible, this is why Man U are different

What a comedy show these threads are, we're talking about Manchester United, heaven forbid that the glazers panic and flog the club to some rich arab that would probably be falling over themselves to be associated with the club, then it would be panic stations alright, Manchester United with all the money in the world.
Report egner November 6, 2013 11:24 PM GMT
...as I have posted many times before the Glazers understand one language...money....

..even they must have been advised that non qualifying for Champs lge this year is potentially disastrous....if it looks dodgy in jan then they will try to splash the cash to ensure this doesn't happen but as we have seen spending money doesn't and never will guarantee success...l

and yes I know one season missed in champs lge is not fatal financially but top top players..is that the phrase??...now very rarely consider a club that isn't in it and so a downward spiral can all too easily start.....

advice to moyes..forget everything but top 4 cos it will be touch and go!!!

Threads like this are becoming to common to early for my likeing. Yes im enjoying manures 'poor' start to the season but its way to early for us all to be gloating yet or it may come back to haunt us.   And i say poor start, arent they only 3 points from second after this poor start? Plus like someone said who says they cant spend there way out of the bit of a hole they are in? Like they spent every year to keep them winning titles
Report judorick November 6, 2013 11:31 PM GMT
the days are gone when it was a carve up between man utd, chelsea and arsenal for the top 3 places in the EPL

Man City are now a permanent fixture in the top 4 and now both LFC and THFC are in position to challenge for one of those places

now SAF is gone, and with an aging squad that does not have much depth, there is a genuine prospect of Man Utd failing to qualify for the UCL

what the consequences would be is anybodies guess
Report Meadow X1 November 6, 2013 11:37 PM GMT
As I have posted before on other threads, you must give Moyes time.  He is not going to turn any declining team into world beaters overnight as will anybody in the same boat.

Give the guy an opportunity to get players working with and for him.  David knows that some of the MU pool of players are nearing the end of their top flight career. Money will be available, judge him on changes he makes but give him a chance.
Report harry callaghan November 7, 2013 12:09 AM GMT
good post egner and that is why i put the thread up to discuss the issues...

yuvutu and duffy i don't post on the footie thread so am entitled to bring up a thread with points that i think are pretty relevant in the grand scheme of football and man utd...

this is not a witch hunt...i am well aware of there position in the league and they may well finish well up the league but as far as i am concerned apart from the 2 players up front it is a very weak squad...they need 6 quality players and will they come if they don't make the champs league?? and will the glaziers spend the cash??

do you think he will get time meadow?? what is going to happen if they don't make the champs league and man utd share price drops rapidly...will they reassure the stock market?? in regard sacking him??

we are not in a time like when ferguson first managed them...money runs the whole game now

a multitude of questions to answer for me starting with the team which has been decaying for a number of years...which you cannot replace overnight

arsenal whom i respect as a football club because they are so well run financially are now debt free and have money to spend so it won't be easy for man u in the transfer market either in enticing new players to the club
Report duffy November 7, 2013 12:21 AM GMT
Call me an old naive romantic, but I believe ultimately when it all shakes down that simply because we are dealing with the name Manchester United, the ultimate ignominy, whatever that may be can never befall them, they will always remain a commodity (if that's the right term) that will be coveted by any number of heavily big hitters, hell, what's the best thing that could happen to them this season, how about, they have a shocking season and the glazers panic at a falling share price and no champions league and sell the club to some rich arab!
Report egner November 7, 2013 12:26 PM GMT
..true duffy....utd will always be a commodity and are one of the most glamourous names in football....and im sure there would a lot of soviereign funds lining up...

problem is if there were a sustained poor spell on the field, and the share price fell

(although im not sure of the correlation between these two things given the worldwide fan base and marketing potential even in a slump..one season or even two may not be a problem)

.there is a point at which the Glazers would not be able to sell.....such is the inextricable link between uniteds  financial fortune and their own.

and of course being a good commodity isn't always compatible with what the fans want....money spent on high class players...good football and success on the fieled.
Report the bloob November 7, 2013 9:44 PM GMT
I doubt many rich Arabs would be able to afford it anyway, there are more financially attractive options out there. Why spend £2 billion on Man U when you could buy a sleeping giant for peanuts and then spend the rest of the money on players? Buy a club like Leeds or Newcastle for a few million and then spend £500m on the squad, it worked for Chelsea and Man City

Let it run. Assuming Arsenal, Chelsea, City top 3 they have to beat Liverpool, Everton and Spurs to fourth. Even money shot? Nope.

judo apologies for late reply misses was pizzing on

well as you may know i didn't start this thread to castigate man utd it was to discuss the wider issues of how i believe the club has been allowed to decay in the past few years with lack of investment, a decaying team, which has just been allowed to get to the point of a thread bare squad, which is now starting with a 40 year old in the centre of the park. That in itself just says how little options moyes has got.

Add to which Like I said earlier in the thread come january who is moyes going to be able to entice to the club

People will argue we are man utd and we won the league last year but for me this was more down to there fight then other teams in the league, which haven't been up to standard and man utd fighting spirit to win rather than the quality of the team bar the 2 up front have allowed to win

On to your question of top 4 which i have also layed... i am not sure to be honest as really think the prem is more fragile than ever with no real stand out teams which for me is why man utd will keep challenging, that isn't to say they are any good... man utd are still there as the previous 3 games before the last 2 will tell you...tricky but think the trade is probably now the play as there next 5 games are the easiest run they will have faced all season and may take them right back up the league but that isn't to say i think they will win those games, but man utd are still man utd...

i am realistic though and as much as the decay is now cancerous in regards the team my main angle is still squad and how thin it is...january transfer window is where it starts but who will want to go there if the champs league is not on the radar...the next 5 games will be key...but they don't come with the fear factor now, take everton last night, they didn't play with any fear and as much as i think the game should of been a draw man utd lack of fire power in the middle of the park always left them open to defeat
Report judorick December 5, 2013 2:43 PM GMT
cheers! my natural instinct is to take the profit or at least recover the stake and as you say they could shorten back up if they win the next 5... might just do a bit at a time

well that is the FA Cup gone, swansea at home this saturday in the prem could be the end of champs league as well

this is just the start of the many years of pain to come for man utd fans

how could this club's management/ferguson could of allowed this squad to get so bare thin?? bar the 2 up front, who are now cropped, they really have got nothing at all...

as we thought, they took the easy games leading up to christmas but as soon as they meet a half decent team they are made to look average

who will go there in january or can they attract to the club... or will moyes just stick with what he has got? deary me it is as i thought

a disaster

and to you pal long time no hear

well looking good judo and the spirit is gradually being broken

you have to feel for moyes but is going to take him a long time to turn this sinking ship around...

i'm predicting 4-6 years i could say more but will re-evaluate as we see what they can attract but not sure the glaziers have got the 300 million it will take in re-building the squad and that will mean good buying as well

top 4 looking good i am considering a top 6 lay but it maybe pushing it a tad but would you take 1.3 as we stand looks bulimic
Report judorick January 6, 2014 1:32 PM GMT
will have a good look at the fixture lists and see if 1.3 looks a lay

cheers for that pointer
Report harry callaghan January 6, 2014 1:51 PM GMT
well tricky...next 2 games swansea at home chelsea away

then

sunderland home
cardiff home
stoke away
fulham home

then they get more harder

arsenal away
palace away
man city home
west brom away
liverpool home

mixed bag really but still hard for them judging how they are playing but next 6 games apart from chelsea are all games you would normally fancy them

squad still looking bare thin...

yesterdays starting line up

    01 de Gea
    12 Smalling
    04 Jones
    42 Blackett Booked
    21 Herrera (Fellaini - 67' )
    35 Lingard (Januzaj - 24' )
    24 Fletcher
    18 Young Booked
    14 Hernández (Nani - 45' )
    08 Mata
    10 Rooney

could take a number of years to turn this around and lack of investment in the past 6 years has left them so weak, yes they still have some quality but it is limited in all fairness

can they attract the top quality players now is the question?? no champs league football and no real depth in the squad will be the main concern for a high profile player wanting to go there
