Derby County have sacked manager Nigel Clough following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to rivals Nottingham Forest.
Clough, 47, has been in charge of the Rams since January 2009 but defeat to Forest left the club in 11th place in the Championship.
"After much consideration, the board feel it is time to move Derby County forward to the next level," said a club statement.
"The club would also like to take this opportunity to wish Nigel Clough well."
The loss at the City Ground was the third in the space of eight days for Derby, who followed in his late father Brian's footsteps when he took the job.

I wouldn't wish Tony Pulis on my worst enemy.

Well actually I would, please please please Derby, appoint Tony Pulis. Make my day, my season and my lifetime - I'm smiling like a Cheshire Cat at the thought of it, can't think what I'll be like when the news is announced next week.

I've heard Mama Sidebe will be his first signing.

The consortium that bought Derby wanted to appoint a director of football for a while but Clough was reported to be against the idea.

If they've decided to go with their original restructuring then it's understandable why they sacked Clough.

Bit embarrassing to be slating Tony Pulis in this manner, when he took the Potters back to the Premier League after 23 years in the wilderness, to a FA Cup Final, To European football for the first time in an eternity, and made Stoke an established Premier League outfit, who were never in serious danger of relegation during his stewardship, and into a team that proved to be a constant thorn in the side of those more 'precious' teams who felt they just had to turn up and expect less fashionable teams to roll over.

Admittedly, Stoke played some awful football during that stewardship, but it was effective, and has left us in a good position to be taken forward by a manager  with more progressive ideas. For thsose reasons, I will never have a bad word for TP and wish him all success in whatever he does going forward.
Report proudpotter September 28, 2013 8:57 PM BST
Loving it so much just thought I'd refresh myself with some "Pulis stats".

During Tony's first spell at Stoke back in season 2004 / 2005 we had a run of 17 games with 15 1-0 results and a couple of goalless draws chucked in for good measure, that's a total of 15 goals in 17 games at an average of 0.88 goals per games.

Mark my words you'll be crying out for Cloughie in a month or so!

Over 40 years mate, season ticket holder since 78-79 promotion year.

What you fail to realise this is not a go at Tony Pulis (who could not be appreciative of what he has done for Stoke and was gutted the way he was sacked by Stoke), its a laugh at Derby!!.  Hatred dates back to the 70s when I grew up around Derby fans and had the misfortune to see them win the championship in 72 and 75.  Its called rivalry, you know what football is all about!

Although Pulis will rightly go down as a legend at Stoke, it does not change the fact that very few fans of clubs in the Premiership or Championship would welcome Tony Pulis as manager. Hand on heart, after what we've seen this season, would you swap Hughes out for Pulis and revert to the some of the garbage we saw, particularly last year?

Cause you wouldn't and neither would Derby fans!

GOAAAAARN STOKE!!

Gut instinct is I'd love to say 'no' but I'd prefer to give it more than 5 or 6 matches to see whether we are going to be able to remain competitive given the change in our style of play. It's certainly a massive eye-opener, ad I can now look forward to watching us play.

Still, TP has served the club brilliantly, and I am sure he could still do that for other clubs.

Disturbed at the 'short-termism' that is becoming more prevalent in football.
