Can you IMAGINE, hearing YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE pulsating around the KOP as GERRARD raised the Premiership Title high above his head?

It would be a moment to SAVOUR for all football fans.

I think most neutrals would rejoice in seeing Suarez lift the cup and revealing his "Fair enough, I won't be a d!ck this summer" t-shirt and then see the majestic sight of Rodgers in the centre circle posing with the trophy while an artist he commissioned knocks up a portrait for his downstairs loo.

Report inca February 13, 2014 9:15 PM GMT
bloob the same club went all over the world before and after Heysel and represented the country with credit, everyone knows there were numerous factors involved.

we can all name clubs which have brought shame to the country, for that matter the so called followers of the national  team  brought more shame on the country for about 20 years and imo the team were lucky not to be thrown out of   a couple of tournaments or banned.
Report the bloob February 13, 2014 10:53 PM GMT
so 39 people getting killed was an accident and all the prosecutions for manslaughter were a miscarriage of justice?

lots of naughtiness caused by other fans I admit, but nobody got killed
Report efisio. February 14, 2014 1:46 AM GMT
Yes the boob, 39 people getting killed was an accident. It was as a result of disorder between two sets of football fans which resulted in a wall collapsing. 14 Liverpool Fans were found guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. There was no miscarriage of Justice, they were guilty. I am 100% certain that they did not intend for anyone to die, as were the prosecutors, which is why they were charged with involuntary manslaughter, which differs from manslaughter by the absence of intent.
Now, I'm not going to go over this for your amusement. I personally was not involved, and like the majority of football fans, from all clubs, have never been involved in any trouble at a game, except for once getting kicked in the back by a group of thugs from Hibernian.
Report jed.davison February 14, 2014 8:27 AM GMT
Like you efisio, I believe that the tragedy of Heysel was the result of various factors but certainly not the murderous intent of any of the fans involved.

However, unless my memory is failing me, The Belgians were very keen on prosecuting the Liverpool fans identified for murder, but Thatcher refused to allow it as the extradition agreement at the time did not cover that offence. So in order to get the fans involved in a Belgian court, the lesser charge had to be filed instead.

That may or may not be the case, but it is certainly how I recall the unfolding of events.
Report efisio. February 14, 2014 9:24 AM GMT
You may be correct Jed. It was however a knee jerk reaction to a tragic event. There is plenty of material on youtube etc., and if anyone comes on here and says that the violence was any worse than what was occurring week in and week out across English Football at the time, then they are liars and have an obvious agenda. There were very few punches or kicks. It was mainly rubble being thrown from both sets of fans in that part of the ground. Liverpool fans as we know charged towards the Juve fans, who didn't stand their ground and fled. Those killed were a long way from the Liverpool fans, but as they were fleeing, a crush ensued and a wall collapsed. Taking emotions aside, how anyone could say that Murder occurred is beyond me. Certainly there were people who are to blame for those deaths, and if a group of our fans hadn't charged, then probably no deaths would have happened.
It's a very sad part of our history, and nobody is proud of what happened that day, but I don't believe fans of any other club, given the circumstances, would have stood still and ignored the barrage of stones and rocks being thrown.
Anyway, there will be plenty of people that will continue to ignore facts so as to use the event for their own anti-LFC agendas. I am sorry for what happened, and wish it hadn't, and not just because of the stigma attached to my club, but because 39 genuinely innocent people died.
Report MrMeaner February 14, 2014 1:04 PM GMT
If people think that Liverpool fans should have been tried for murder because of the tragic events at Heysel. Then it stands to reason that a great many supporters of Manchester United, Chelsea, West Ham, Leeds, Everton, etc, etc, should have been tried for attempted murder. After all, they indulged in exactly the same type of behaviour week in, week out.
Report frances melly,so is italy. February 14, 2014 1:40 PM GMT
I was at Heysel and agree with everything efisio has said. Not one person connected to Liverpool F.C.is proud of what happened that day.The circumstances around that time with Thatcher trying to destroy anything associated with the working class, the venue, which was no better than your average 2nd division ground, the stabbing of innocent supporters in Brussels city centre all through the day(which was never reported),how liverpool fans survived the violence the previous years final in rome. just before all the helmets like C.J. and Emden come on preaching the same old record about winging scousers, always someone else,s fault,i will say again,it was liverpool fans that caused this tragedy, nobody else and anyone who was going to football games in mid 80s would know the intense atmosphere some of these games were played and wonder why more events like heysel never happened.Once again i would offer Condolences to the Families who lost loved ones, after all they only went to watch a football game.
Report jed.davison February 14, 2014 2:52 PM GMT
