"Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. Yet, I’m still quite happy to be seeing the back of the Portuguese. The reason? Everything else that comes with ‘mercenary’ Mourinho. All of the arguments, the controversies, the allegations; the constant circus of trouble that surrounds him, wherever he goes. At previous clubs, these controversies were usually limited to the odd jibe at another manager or a moan at a referee. At Real Madrid however, it’s been taken to a new level.

Internal bickering with sporting directors and youth team coaches. Very public disputes with high profile players such as Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos. External bickering with the media, referees and other clubs’ managers. Allegations of corruption and doping aimed at Barcelona. Allegations of favouritism because of Barça’s affiliation with UNICEF. Let’s not forget his deplorable eye-poke on Tito Villanova too. Chances are I’ve forgot to add something in, a testament to just how much trouble he’s stirred up in three seasons.

The real issue here is this insane belief in England that guys like Mourinho and Ferguson are somehow messiahs
guys who turn water into wine
Nothing could be further from the truth

Cant get away from the fact that Mourinho, wherever he has been has been handed the keys to the richest club in the league

Increasingly the trend is for managers to be coaches, in for the short term while longer term matters, like player recruitment are handled by the director of football

Putting mou in charge of this chelsea project is like putting dracula in charge of the bloodbank

Mou won the portuguese league with Porto, richest club
The much vaunted Aberdeen side of the 80s came at a time when Celtic and Rangers were at a very low ebb
They were virtually feeder clubs for the english first division
It was a very open division in scotland at the time. Dundee utd won the title and made a Uefa cup final.
Interesting that when David Murray and Graeme Souness arrived on the scene, the sainted Ferguson flucked right off to Man U. He knew which way the wind was blowing and it wasnt going anywhere near Pittodrie
IMO, Benitez battles at Valencia v the big la liga 2 and Wenger's with Monaco against Bernard Tapie and Marseilles are worthy of much higher praise.

My point of view is that guys like Ferguson and Mourinho are massively over rated by the media in this country

Successful yes
But ask yourself this

Have either of them created a dynasty similar to that of Barca of recent years?
The Madrid sides of Zidane, Figo, Raul?
The AC Milan sides of the 90s?
Hell even LFC in the 70s/80s?
GREAT football teams

For those were clubs with vision, not beholden to the idiosyncrasies of the manager fawned upon by a grateful media

Only in england can Mou get away with his schtick
he knows this
he's tried italy and spain and knows his dog wont hunt out there
I think his career is on a downward arc from here

He has been at his best when he has been manager of clubs that dont have the greatest players and are desperate for success to the point thay will follow his paranoid ideas blindly.

With Inter they were about the only team in Italy that were in with any real chance of winning.

Inter in the CL were so desperate for that trophy the players did not care how it was won and were willing to do anything.

Report viva el presidente! June 5, 2013 9:43 PM BST

Inter were not even near the favourites for the CL.

Of the players you mentioned - one italian world cup winner played in the CL final and for one minute. While Figo, Viera were not in the squad and one Brazilian that had won the copa america was there.

None of them had anywhere near the success of Madrid players who had won CL's and world cup winning medals.

The point is in 5 semi finals with Real Madrid and Chelsea - the most expensive squads in the world he has not reached the CL final.

He has done it with teams that were underdogs and happy to play any way to get job done.

That Milan squad was not full of top players though. Many had been let go by top clubs and were coming to Inter with a point to prove and they bought into Mourinhos do anything to win policy.

The players at Chelsea and Madrid did not buy in to this as much and did not achieve as much despite being the most expensive squads in the world amongst the top teams in the CL.

How best to counter that?
Ah yes the film Colors featuring messrs Sean Penn and RObert Duvall

Duvall tells Penn a story:

There's two bulls standing on top of a mountain. The younger one says to the older one: "Hey pop, let's say we run down there and **** one of them cows". The older one says: "No son. Lets walk down and **** 'em all".

For some reason charging into the guy in possession of the football and bringing him down is more acceptable in England than anywhere else
So when the player in possession wins a free kick this is diving is it?
FFS no wonder the national team is so p155 poor

Its one of the great myths of football that Barca knocked Chelsea out in 09 thanks to TH Ovrebro the Norwegian ref.
Chels scored early and cowardly spent the rest of the game time wasting, packing their penalty area with 10 men.
On the extremely rare occasion they ventured forward they elected to appeal for non existent pens rather than score another goal. The only appeal with any merit I saw was the last one when Ballack smashed the ball at a Barca player covering his face with his hands. As I discovered recently it was only the following season that refs were under instruction to give pens for this, not in 2009.
As for Ovrebro being biased he did in fact send a barca player off in that game, Abidal I believe.
Not even in the clatterburg ball park
All this is to overlook the clear pen Barca should have had in the first leg..
