I'm pretty sure that the odds will back it up, 9/1, I don't remember those 2 teams being as big on the day

Wimbeldon were about the same price, think 1/3, 8/1 were the 90 min odds (with more miserly overrounds in those days)

Spurs v Coventry i don't recall the prices but i'd guess around 4/6 & 7/2
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 7:37 PM BST
Wimbledon maybe

don't recall Coventry even being classed as an upset
Report tobermory May 11, 2013 7:38 PM BST
Spurs were pretty hot favourites , they'd finished 3rd and i think maybe had got more points than anyone from January onwards
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 7:44 PM BST
not sure, all i do know is Coventry were a better side that season
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 7:46 PM BST
sorry ,was looking at 1988
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 7:49 PM BST
yeah Spurs were 3rd Cov were 10th

then in 1988

Liverpool were 1st Wimbledon finished 7th ...but a massive points difference between the 2 sides

I guess 1979- 80 must be a bigger shock than any of them  ,and of course 75-76
Report antony_27 May 11, 2013 7:49 PM BST
West Ham were the last team from outside the top division to win the cup in 1980 and I can't see that happening ever again.
Report antony_27 May 11, 2013 7:52 PM BST
West Ham were also the last team of 'all English' players to win the cup in 1975 and I can't see that ever happening again either!

Sunderland must have been a hugh price to beat Leeds Utd in 1973 ???
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 7:58 PM BST
1981 final possibly the first final with player/s outside the British isles

can anyone correct me on that ?

1980 , west ham side in div2, that team would finish top 6 prem these days, bonds, lampard, brooking, Devonshire, how standards have slipped
Report Coachbuster May 11, 2013 8:16 PM BST
there wasn't the obscene amounts available at top level then ,so many star players played at second level and with 'their club'

Forest won the 1st div (prem) title with 10 players that starred in the 2nd division the previous season

that couldnt happen now

Coventry wasn't a big upset at all. Spurs were odds against over 90 mins. Coventry had a fine season in the league too, and Keith Houchen scored some priceless goals on the cup run - 5 and their leading scorer i think. You can't count that as a major shock.
Report geordie1956 May 11, 2013 10:36 PM BST
I'm a mag supporter but the biggest shock of all was surely Sunderland in 1973 - by the way the Robledo brothers played for NUFC in the 1950's - they were from South America - Chile as I can remember from my history books
