In Liverpool, I'm a student with no job so I wouldn't get a mortgage. Actually forget it, I'm totally useless at gambling so it would all go badly wrong. I was serious about trying it but my last few weeks of betting have shown me that I shouldn't bet.

It's my mum's house. Said I could have it for £60k cash because she wants to move out. It's decent for £60k as we've never had a problem in it and neighbours are ok.

for a student, 15k cash is lot of money... save it, dont gamble and ruin it all..

get your mam to change mortgage to buy to let interest only and give it to you when you have job and can afford to buy it hth

Yeah I've decided against it and will work towards my own house in my own time. Just seemed a good offer and I do like a gamble it's just I'm not good at it. Only thing I'm good at is poker hence why I have money in the first place but would never get it up to £60k in time. At least I can get it to a decent deposit by the time I apply for jobs.

mate I'm only mucking about but if ur a student and u have 15k - use that to pay off ur debts because students coming from uni spend years paying off and are burdened with it, cheap house in undesirable ar eas can weait

What's rent like in liverpool though ? If he can get a decent mate in to pay rent + what he might pay in rent, he might have the mortgage covered.

Unless he wants to live with his mum, he's going to be paying rent to someone. A 45k mortgage would be about 300ish I'd think.

Cheapest house sold in the UK last year was 8k in some hellhole called I believe "Wales"..

A house for 60k in Liverpool must be in a rough area but if you can get a lodger then to buy it is a no-brainer.If you can rent it out after you move then it could be a good deal.Trouble is you will have DHSS tenants and they will trash the place in celebration after Liverpool win the Premier League.

if you are a student then you should be able to rent a room out to another student - all inclusive rent is £80/week in a decent student area = £350/month

Interest only on a £45k mortgage would be less than £100/mth

I guess the area is bad but tbh I've never known any different. Still I doubt my mum would give it to me as cheap if she had to get the mortgage in her name.

I have some student houses in wavertree

going to uni on the 79 bus day in day out. it comes every 5 mins, best bus route in lpool. some of the drivers drive like nutters.

I go to hope Uni :) Yeah the 79 bus route is the best, although sometimes the gaps are longer now that they've extended the route to Halewood. Although having the 14 on that route also helps.

Most of my uni friends live in Smithdown Road.

I bought the 1st one over 20 years ago when I was a student at John Moores - I bought with a mate who lived in it for a year with the students - I only had to put up a few grand as we got a 95% mortgage (cost 47k) -  we added another 2 (borrowing money off parents) but sold one - he moved to Oz so I bought him out about 12 years ago just before they shot up in price

I keep getting letters from firms acting on behalf of clients wanting to buy HMO's in that area but hopefully they will be my pension

Betfair is the only site I can gamble on now and I have strict deposit limits.

Haha it was just fantasy talk. Realistically there's no chance I would have had the balls to stick £15k on. I doubt the bookies would even accept a bet of that size, even if they did I wonder how they gave you your winnings as they never have more than a couple of hundred in the shops from experience. If I've learnt one thing in life is that quick fixes always go wrong, just have to work hard for the money like everyone else.
