Used to be one of the only live tv games shown.
The 70s and 80s were the best years for the F.A Cup. It's just another game these days. |

I guess it is number three behind champs league, premier league. BTW, is a 20% return on man city winning a good bet? i think so.
By:
who is playing ?
By:
city cant be bothered with this rubbish players lethargic and lethagcy.. laboured 1-0 ft win

Sad as it is I literally couldn't care less. The F.A have ruined it completely for me.

Used to be both scottish and english cup finals on tv at the same time.
Up here the we got the halftime highlighs from wembley and it always seemed more exciting/glamorous. Used to pray for extra time at Wembley and a 90 min result at Hampden...so we'd get the final 30 mins live. Arsenal v Liverpool 1971 was the one...everyone was lying about doing the crucifix in the local park by 6pm that night ![]() |

The cup final being played before the regular season is even over. Am I the only one who thinks that's ridiculous?
By:
first final i remember was i think Coventry v Spurs. then Liverpool and Wimbledon the following year is clearer. two teams Coventry and Wimbledon winning it back-to-back, now both long gone. I hate the 5 pm kick off. fa cup final should be the only big match of a weekend

68 final astle scored in extra time, Charlie George winner extra time, best ever final I remember was actually at old Trafford the leeds v Chelsea replay
By:
think they have all been a bit of a blur since about 2000. seem to remember a lot of teams playing in blue in cup final, that's about it.

The Cup Final, was exciting, because it was the only club game shown live, on tv. These days we get about 10-15 games a week live, which includes Premiership, Championship, Division 1, Division 2, Confererence League, Scottish League, Irish League games on and thats before you count all the La Liga/Bundasliga games as well. So yes its just another game.
In the old days only 4 clubs maxumum, would play at Wembley each season, however now, you can have 10 legaue clubs playing in some sort of final at Wembley each season |

My favourite cup final not involving united was spurs/Coventry in '87. Proper end to end stuff. There's no anticipation around the day anymore and the late kick off def doesn't help.
S*it must be getting old. |

steve why would i lie about something like this ffs?????
we got extratime in 1971,we got extratime when norman whiteside scored for 10 man Man U in 1985ish i'm getting on but i'm not senile yet ![]() |

They dont show it in Scotland because STV are tight arses. Yet I still get an email from ITV Sport to watch it online, where STV have banned it. >:(

strangely i think the FA cup is still pretty exciting
apart from the Final..where the FA have sold out. You used to be able to remember a final by the classic commentaries not anymore ![]() "And Lorimer makes it 1-1.....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" ![]() |
By:
get it on Sky 973 if that helps
itv london |
By:
ty attitude, but no SKY and I remember the extra time thing too, if it was BBC,same as you, but I think its been Injury time or something.

ILL NEVER FORGET ALBERT QUIXALL SHOWING OFF HIS MEDAL AND WAVING IT TO THE CROWD AT WEMBLY WITH ALL HIS EXCITEMENT AND HAPPINESS IN 1963 FOR MAN UTD ,IT WAS THE GREATEST COMPETITION IN FOOTBALL IN THEM DAYS ,AND FANS WOULD GIVE THEIR LEFT HAND TO WIN IT

I recall 68 to 1980 like yesterday, goalscorers everything, but I couldn't tell you who played in last years final off top of my head
By:
from australia and still interested although in the 70's despite it being on at midnight remember families getting together to watch it
now it comes on here at 2 rather than 12 and being before the EPL season ends is just wrong in my opinion come on wigan - think they may surprise |
By:
agree do wah diddy it was better for players to win the cup final than the league itself, but even the league cup final then was magnificent . still think great idea would be 2 champ league places for grabs, winners of the league and the f a cup.
By:
Premier League obviously couldn't bear the F.A cup being the showpiece finale to the season, bloody disgraceful having it on a league weekend.
By:
agree Captain, theres a cheek to fine teams for putting out a weaken side, as it shows a "lack of respect", yet treat the final the way they do.
By:
Really feel for Wigan players, why cant they at least move it to Wed or Thursday?
By:
no worries steve

By:
they couldn't play weds cos it would clash with the europa league final and there's an agreement that the big leagues do not have league games on european nights. thurs would have been much more sensible and fairer
By:
uefa require the champions league final to be played 5 days apart from any other event, the league one/two plays offs are next week so this week had to do
