We all know he's going to retire which to me being a lifelong Utd fan is dreadful news. He's been there for well over half my life so it's really come as a shock that he's actually going.
My question is has he actually said THE REASON WHY he has finished? I don't mean us all making guesses, has Sir Alex ACTUALLY SAID WHY?
He said in the programme notes only a few days before that he was staying so why the sudden change of heart. It must come out surely the reason why he has gone but has he ACTUALLY STATED WHY yet?
Because Moyes was the man to replace him and he was about to commit himself to Everton for probably 3 or 4 years and it would have cost United a lot of money in compensation from that point, also he was becoming an embarassment with his ranting and raving seemingly every match. Operation in August etc, and retirng now was ticking all the boxes at the same time. I wouldn't say he was pushed but definitely slightly nudged.

I see your points but that is only your take on it.
My question is has Sir Alex actually explained why? He must get asked surely and it seems funny he said only a few days before he was staying so what is his explanation?

Because it was seen as a good time for MANCHESTER UNITED, next year wouldn't, and this would have been put to him. Why then, would he stay any longer? 71 approaching 72 also. What else was there to stay for?

a guy called david meek who was closer to fergie than any journalist has said that its possible he was "pushed out" (his words), in the gentlest possible way. Those of us who thought fergie had the job for as long as he wanted it were perhaps mistaken.

Surely though he will get asked by the press, an interview on the TV "So why did you decide to leave Sir Ales and also why did you say in the programme notes only days before that you were staying"?
Surely that will be put to him.

I know. but the club will have foreseen that and a form of words will have been agreed on to ensure that all sides are "on-message". especially with fergie moving upstairs they wont want to leave anything open to speculation

I don't think he will actually state why. We can all conjuncture why he might have retired, but then we'd only be guessing. I actually thought Fergie, was going past his sell by date, before announcing his retirement and at 70, who can blame him.

That's exactly what I'm getting at, we are alll just guessing but he ACTUALLY KNOWS THE ANSWER of course.
So when he is asked surely he can't just say "I'm not telling you"! There has to be a reason and also what would his answer be when asked "Why did you say in the programme notes only days before that you were staying"?

There's no way he's been subtlety pushed out. My worry is that there is an underlying medical issue beyond his hip.
I'm dreading tomorrow. He took over when I was 8, and the thought of United without him is truly depressing. There'll be a river at OT come 5.45 tomorrow.

Yes I'm truly gutted too, it's almost like a death in the family!
I can't see personally that they would 'push' him (subtly or not. I think it's his decision and yes possibly his health is worse than he's letting on (a Cancer maybe?)
I just want to know that whilst we can all speculate what his actual answer is when asked. Your not telling me n reporter will ask him so he has to tell the worls surely ................. why?

A visit to the doctors at the start of the week revealed devastating news for Fergie.
Years of being exposed to Shrek and his donkey (Colleen) has resulted in Fergie contracting terminal Foot and Mouth disease.

He left because there is no more money to spend, the club is still 400+ million in debt, hes looked at his squad and knows full he cant dominate with it and with no new top signigns on theie way and rooney wanting out, hes got out at the right time

It may never come out, if its health its probably not his hip or anything bodily imo, possibly a brain type condition
Its possibly just like Shankly that he had enough of the pressure, and its sudden departure is how he said he wanted to go so maybe SAF has chose that route
Hes not made any statement himself apart from the official one which basically just said he was ready to go, and that he had thought iabout it months ago 9however nothing that he said or did in the run up to the event suggested it

Even if he is asked directly why he left I can see him giving out some generic prescripted reply.
As you know, if fergie doesn't want to answer a question he won't. All of which points towards his health imo

So what would his answer be to "So how come you said in the programme notes a few days before that you were staying"?
There must be a reason, he obviously knows so why not tell us? He can't just say "I'm not answering that question" surely, it's a main point that we all want to know.

you should be in the media lou. so many of the press just accept the guff that passes for answers from clubs these days Wink
In utd's case if they asked a 'difficult' question (or even 1 that AF didn't like which could be perfectly innocent) they stood a fair chance of never being allowed to ask a question again - hopefully Moyes will be a bit more grown up. A reporter got banned from an Inter press conference (under Mourinho) and all the others stood up and left when JM sat down - our sycophantic idiots would never contemplate doing that!

So Sir Alex you were lying when you said a few days that you were staying"?
he would say
"no my boy, I wasn't lying, i'll be an ambassador and director next year"

Man City will come again and with the possible return of Mourinho, he knows he may never get the chance to leave the club again as league champions.
Simple, he wants to leave on a high. Man City will come again and with the possible return of Mourinho, he knows he may never get the chance to leave the club again as league champions.
