Anyone noticed that there seems to be this bandwagon that Spanish football is on the decline, but where does this leave English football then? Are we accepting we are a distant 3rd best now, or will it be back to the usual rubbish next week that the English Premier League is the best in the world?

Ive always been of the opinion that judge league not just by top 2 or 3 sides but how 6-20th sides match up.

Dont follow much German football so cant really make a firm judgement on their league, would say fact 4th placed side being nearly 40 points behind bayern and 15 points dortmund suggests two great sides but leaves open debate about quality further down.
Report thelatarps April 25, 2013 7:29 PM BST
Greuther Furth v QPR in the UCL final it is then.

I tend to find that teams 6-20 try to ape what the teams above them do
EG when Mourinho came over he influenced Ferguson
Those 2 dominated hence you get all the mini-me managers like allardyce, pulis et al copying and adapting to the unique circumstances of the EPL

Thing about the Germans now is that they tend to be producing their own young players who are not prima donnas, are hardworking and enthusiastic

Must be said that western europe is awash with players with big reputations who dont put the work in.
Hopefully the Germans are about to change the game in this respect.
Report GAZO April 25, 2013 7:53 PM BST
the german kids may not be prima donnas, they may be hardworking and enthusiastic but when the big clubs come offering big wages they will soon flee the nest
Report thelatarps April 25, 2013 7:58 PM BST
Indeed they will
But the German clubs will be picking up huge transfer fees and replacing them with kids who were as hungry as Mesut Ozil once was
And wasnt he dogsh!te last night playing for Madrid

Any idea how many Germans started for Bayern on Tuesday and Dortmund last night? Can't have been that many.

barca and madrid were given 2 hidings thats for sure but i dont think bayern and dortmond are better sides at all. Barca are always vunerable defensivly and without the greatest player ever messi they r distincly average. I expect barca to beat bayern at home but 4 is just to muh i feel. i also expect madrid to go trough and give bayern a game in the final

Here we go!

Bayern: Neuer, Boateng, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Muller, Gomez

Dortmund: Weidenfeller, Hummels, Schmelzer,Gundogan, Bender, Reus, Gotze

So that's six and seven, bacardi. Not exactly flooded with nationals.
Report Alias April 25, 2013 10:16 PM BST
Gomez is half Spanish, and Boateng isn't exactly Teutonic sounding.Silly
Report STEPTOES YARD April 25, 2013 10:25 PM BST
13 out of 22 players pretty good

baring man utd most of top english clubs would average what ?, 2 or 3 tops ?
Report Alias April 25, 2013 10:38 PM BST
69% ain't that much, imo.

Celtic won the European Cup in 1967 with eleven Scotsmen.
Report Alias April 25, 2013 10:40 PM BST
That should read 59%.
Report Biscuit1979 April 25, 2013 10:42 PM BST
Dortmunds 3 subs were all German too so 10 of their 14 players used were nationals. That's pretty impressive i think.
Report Alias April 25, 2013 10:43 PM BST
Don't think there were any subs in '67.

Surely this idea that the Premier League also rans are so much stronger than those you get abroad is well and truly out the window this year. An average Man Utd have ran away with the league. I see a lot of dross in the Premier League that are just as bad as the teams down the bottom of the other leagues.

Even our numeric advantage of number of top clubs is looking questionable. I'm not sure Arsenal and the like are better than the equivalents abroad when you compare them with Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Malaga, Leverkusen, Schalke etc.

Please stop encouraging Bhoys, Bb. You'll only confuse him all the more. As you know, the scorer in that game was Pedro.

Bhoys, in order to avoid confusion (you've got enough already), I suggest you do your own research.
