Joe Hart - still the best English goalkeeper by a long way but miles away from other international keepers
Glen Johnson - waste of space, one good game followed by 20 bad ones
Chris Smalling - the Carlton Palmer of defending, how he ever gets in an England team beggers belief
Joleon Lescott - if you ever want to find a player that reached the pinnacle of English football with no talent Joleon is it
Tom Cleverley - rated by United supporters and occasionally looks ok, at the moment I'd rather have Joe Allen!
Michael Carrick - if he's the best English midfielder we can field against Montenegro it says it all
Steven Gerrard - Englands best midfielder for decades, continually let down by the shoite that he has to play with
James Milner - see Michael Carrick and select him and you're looking at defence not attack (ala Hodgson)
Ashley Cole - does the job, no more no less, adventurous manager would play Baines every day of the week
Danny Wellbeck - will give him the benefit of the doubt after good performances against Real, does a shift
Wayne Rooney - has there ever been a player more overrated than Rooney, scored a goal so gets away with it, looked fooked 2nd half

Ashley Young - stick at the San Marino level, more threat from Azwebaijan than Ashley Young

What the papers will say :

Joe Hart - world class
Glen Johnson - woeld class
Chris Smalling - world class
Joleon Lescott - world class
Tom Cleverley - world class
Michael Carrick - world class
Steven Gerrard - world class
James Milner - world class
Ashley Cole - world class
Danny Wellbeck - world class
Wayne Rooney - world class

Ashley Young - world class

Roy Hodgson - world class

Difficult to see who else we could play tho'.

I also think Carrick, Milner, etc are ordinary but

most of the decent midfielders in the Prem are foreign.

Goes for most of the other positions too.

Sad really. Sad

Gerard - runs around like a headless chicken, continually gives the ball away, shoots from ridiculous places, considered world class by half wit commentators / pundits / fans.

Can anyone explain to me what Cleverley does? When I see him, he can't tackle, can't run, has the passing range of a Scott Parker and is constantly out of position.

Need to inject some of the u21s into the squad asap,or well in time for tournament shoulkd they qualify, place the emphasis on pace and skill

24 hours earlier people were celebrating after England forced a draw against New Zealand. Is cricket different to football? Mischief

Were you all watching the same game as me?

I can only assume you had the volume up and all bought into Clive Tyldesly's 'never mind what's happening on the pitch, I've already decided the narrative I'm following' style of commentary.

England were in total command in the first half - can we agree?

Second half, the game became far more open with chances created AT EITHER END and Montenegro in particular committing a range of fouls in dangerous positions, when asked defensive questions. Better delivery from the set pieces and  from the wings would have resulted in further goals for England. Equally, our midfield went awol for much of the second half, but it wasfar from theone way traffic the ITV commentary team wanted you to believe.

Regarding the team selection I assume cole and Johnson were picked due to the poor choice available in the middle of defence but Baines  was the very obvious choice IMO best left back by a country mile this year in the prem esp going forward
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER March 27, 2013 10:05 AM GMT
Coles still a good player imo and should be in the squad, I agree baines is very good and also gives more assist percentage and possible goal threat

adding players like zaha and sterling form the u21s as well as acouple of others, plus witshire and wallcott will give us more pace and unpredictability

If they qialify the team squad could look a lot different to the tired ones bieng trotted out time after time

Think, they were celebrating in the Test Match, because it all seemed very unlikely to happen at the start of the days play, but overall, they were desperatly dissapointed in the way, they played and they do actually give it everything they have got and actually care. With our Football team, they really don't care that much, because they go back to their clubs and get paid ridiculous sums of money for playing 60 minutes of football, or maybe 120 minutes of football, a week.
