how come the Trophy final is this early in the year?
I think it is because the Champions League final is being held at Wembley on 25th May. UEFA don't allow any games to be played at the venue in the 14 days preceding this date.
It means that all the matches that are usually played there have to be squashed in on a tight timescale. It is also the reason why the BSP has ended up with such ridiculous fixture congestion. The season was shortened to allow the play off final to still be held at Wembley.
