To be fair, they could have won it this year, I would think that after he's signed Suarez in the summer he'll fancy his chances.
By:
what on earth makes you say that?...they could have won it this year
By:
To be fair if it wasnt for the berlin wall, the eurozone crisis, outbreak of foot and mouth, and the ash cloud, added to that the incompetence of european refs, they could have won it 5 times imo
By:
I would have thought that was obvious rommel. Not far from knocking out Real, then it's open. I'm not going to tell you that the ref done them over, because he was right to send off Nani.
By:
not far from knocking out Real?dunno what the fck thats supposed to mean....whats open?they failed to get into the last 8
By:
wont go over the sending off again, but it was a monumental and swift collapse when he had been sent off
By:
It was hardly monumental, they got done by a great goal from Modric when they were obviously reeling from the red card. When the card was issued, Mourinho acted, Fergie didn't. United paid.
Correct, bottom line they failed to get into the last eight. But there was no disgrace in it, they just got done by a decent side. I would have thought that a team that had reached three of the last four finals would be granted a fallow season - particularly one in which they have galloped off into the distance in their domestic League - and that none of their fans would be questioning the manager who had presided over those achievements. |
By:
S h i t e stirring again Rommel? Why the feck don't you worry about whether your own club are ever going to win an English trophy again?
By:
Sorry, three of the last five finals, I have tried my damnedest to erase last season's final from my memory.

In fact I really don't know why a Tottenham fan would waste his time arguing with a seething scouser about Man Utd, so I shall stop now. You are clearly a roiling cauldron of bitter rancour.

jed you musn't have come across the desert t*at before

I have been on here longer than he has dessie, I'm just not very busy this morning and I like annoying scousers.
By:
id class it as monumental, from looking in a decent position to go through, withing 10 mins they were out,top teams shouldnt reel, fergie too busy waving his fckn finger
By:
Life goes on Rommel, the party's over, as they say. Was Liverpools exit to Zenit any less monumental I wonder?

By:
Fergie has no influence ( i.e. can't bully and badger ) on european referee's like he has in the Premiership.
By:
Garbage. Fergie has no more impact on refs than any other manager. Just that opposing teams fans and the media like to plant that seed as they cant stand his phenominal success.
By:
I dont think march is an apt description, unless ypou mean thats the month when hes gone out the competition the most times
I would say it been more like a trudge, 25 years of stomping on inferior opposition in a suitable format, only to be halted in the knockout rounds record could have been so much better if only they had been able to win the big games more often |
By:
ferguson fell apart cos united got a call against them(and not in any way a dodgy call),acted as he should have then modric wouldnt have had that space(probably),was a monumental collapse conceding 2 in 10 minutes, previous 150 mins had only conceded one goal
By:
So you mean the media are biased against United ?
By:
I think the media has its fair share of ABUs
![]() |
By:
Who came up with the saying "Fergie time" a ridiculous insult which is repeated regularly by ABUs and media alike......
By:
I think that term may have evolved form the defeat of sheff wed when united scored two late goals, in the added time, thus causing news at ten to be shown on itv 2 as the match had over run a tad
By:
Thats because of the abuse Fergie gives some of them when they ask him difficult questions, ie barring two papers from the press conference after RM game and refusing to do compulsory media work after the Madrid game. Nazi style censorship, to continue the Rommel theme.
![]() |
By:
THATS because the media nowadays PURPOSELY ASK controversial questions. And thats not just to Fergie. The media feast on creating controversy. Listening to questions fired at managers nowadays its not surprising some object.
By:
Most managers talk b0ll0cks most of the time, theres only a few that have anything of substance to say and SAF is not on eof them imo
By:
Anyway Fergie's record against Mourinho is terrible, something like 2 win in 14 games.
By:
LOL a friend of mine is currently banned from old Trafford after someone on his paper asked a question Fergie didn't like. And he actually gets on with the red-nosed ponce.

I think if United do go on and win the league this year i think bar RVP, it is the worst United squad to win it. Games like Reading the other night for example previous United teams would have been at least 3 up at half time, probably more. I also believe previous squads under Fergie would have seen City off easily last year. ALthough the last comment is as much a reflection of the quality of the chasing pack as much as a comment about the slip in standard that united have shown.
As for Europe i think United have always lacked that edge that they get in the league especially at home. Madrid were never gonna feel intimated going to OT. When you've just played Barca twice you aint gonna worry about playing united. IT was a harsh red for nani but probably the right decision and as pointed out Fergie was more interested in moaning about it than leading his team. Jose just sat there grinning inside like a Cheshire Cat. Ive always said that with the quality of squad that they have had over the years since the english clubs have been allowed back in and the fact that they have only won it twice in 20 or so attempts its a Real poor return when they have been so dominate on home soil. |
By:
miles behind imo, Malaga would have knocked them out as well. Fortunately for Fergie they got drawn one of the favourites so it doesnt look too bad on paper, thats obviously if you can excuse the defeats to Galatasaray and Cluj in the group stage

By:
Strange how the worst United team is going to have won it easier than any before...... must be absolutely abysmal Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool squads.....
Oh hang on....whats different about the Man City squad from last season?? |
By:
injuries to Aguero, Silva and Kompany maybe. De Jong and Balotelli sold.
By:
however that is slightly off-topic as the thread was a discussion about Fergies campaigns in Europe. Most have a go at City's apparent under-achievement this season with such an expensive squad. United are the richest club in the world and have only won the CL twice under Ferguson.
By:
arsenal squad was weakened by selling its best player to united, city won the league with the last kick of the season, and then did not strengthen, bough a few average players
chelsea had/have a talented squad, but manager problems and issues, liverpoool squad has been massively trimmed in terms of quantity, and have a new manager, spurs also had anew manager and sold one of their best players in modric all the pack have issues imo and united added a top class goal scorer to their squad, they are the best team in the league with the least amount of baggage imo I would expect if they dont add to the squad/team then next season will be alittle tougher to win the title, |
By:
I think that's a fair comment about City's signings RP but also got a gem in Nastasic imo
By:
not seen much of him but heard someone on tv saying how great he was, is he the one that played a few times last season and got loads of stick or was that someone else?
By:
that was Savic who was a bit unfortunate I thought as got chucked in at the deep end after some injuries and made some howlers so they got shot of him. Nastasic is only 19 but looks a great prospect.
By:
ah yes thats the one, thank you, will keep an eye on this one then and see how he goes, what type is he good on the ball or no nonsense type
