24 years old old English striker for sale, scored plenty of goals in championship, SPL and in Europe against top teams. Brilliant finisher, uses space well, proven goalscorer in pressure games.  Will score double figures easily in EPL

Norwich 5 mill bid derisory, worth up to 10 mill but will sell for 8
Pause Switch to Standard View Gary Hooper worth 8 mill

Report TexassportsagentBuzz January 22, 2013 7:37 PM GMT

Report OJlovedNICOLE January 22, 2013 7:37 PM GMT
I think Jelavic will improve for Everton, a little unlucky with his scoring record. Hooper may be slightly quicker but Jelavic is considerably better in the air than Hooper and can be played as a target man.
Report Biscuit1979 January 22, 2013 7:38 PM GMT
FWIW, i don't think his ability is in question, he clearly knows where the goal is. My only point is that because of the contract issue, he's never going to fetch 10m
Report newco-Joe67 January 22, 2013 7:38 PM GMT
Wanyama won't be going this window, still a few years on his contract as opposed to Hooper with year and half left

As a Norwich fan I'd like this to happen, but I'd say £5m is correct, perhaps with further money based on performance. £10m, don't be silly, most the people in this forum could be top scorer in the SPL.
Report JC1326 January 22, 2013 7:42 PM GMT
Besides, when need that other £5m so Danny Graham can be Grant Holt's back-up Cry
Report Geesyerdosh January 22, 2013 7:51 PM GMT
Rumour Norwich have went back in with a 8.5 million bid. I doubt it myself but possible they fear a bidding war with Spurs interested.

I like him as a player and I don't think he's playing in a team with a lot of creativity but as said already the likes of Billy McKay are currently looking like Romario and Griffiths looks top class in that Hibs team so it clearly is a gamble. Mind you Steven Fletcher looked average so who knows.

Incidentally AVB could be there to see Wanyama with Sandro out for the season.

Stephen Fletcher scored about 1 goal every 5 matches for Hibs in the SPL

But top British goalscorer in EPL Crazy
Report JamDav1982 January 22, 2013 10:16 PM GMT
Fletcher was young and learning his game and in top of that wasnt at one of the Old Firm.

Players like David Goodwillie, Kris Boyd, Scott MacDonald etc have all scored goals in Scotland and not been good enough down south. In fact of you look at the top goalscorers in Scotland over the last few years almost all of them have been very average tier 2/3 players in England.

JAmDav - u talk some ****.  As someone who has played in both leagues I can tell u now Gary Hooper would score goals wherever he goes.  He's a NATURAL finisher.  That's something u cannot coach.  Saying what u have written shows ur ignorance.  A player is WORTH what someonme is willing to pay for him.  Is Asndy Carroll worth 35 million?

The trouble with a lot of managers these days is they buy natural goalscorers then try to change them by telling them they have to chase back and defend as well.
Report TheChaser January 23, 2013 12:12 AM GMT

Report newco-Joe67 January 23, 2013 12:13 AM GMT
Kriskin tells no lies here as it goes. Only time will tell with Hooper and like many others coming from SPL Hooper will be a big success in EPL but Norwich is a step in the wrong direction but he is in English and young. I would love to see him sign for Spurs and i am sure he will work his way into favour and become a big success. 8 million is a steal.

shuda - has made some good points.  Too many modern coaches try to change the natural instinct of today's footballer.  Take for example Brendan Rodgers he's all in to his scientific methodologies. He's got that many analysts studying his players after each game you would think you were working for NASA.  Some footballers are not the brightest tools in the world so when you start over complicating things this is when problems kick in.  You take away their natural instinct and they become confused.

The ball is definitely in Celtic's court on this one.  Hooper's agent(s) are trying their best to unsettle him with the £ signs of the EPL.  Celtic don't need to sell at present.  Les Ferdinand was supposed to be there tonite watching Gary on behalf of Spurs. If a 7.5 million bid came in for him I feel Celtic will deal.  He's moving into his final year of his contract next season.

Hooper a decent finisher and could have done a job at Norwich, but not worth 8m for me. Not as daft as 12m for Fletcher, but still overpriced. And much as it pains me to say it, but Jelavic is definitely a better player than Hooper. He was far too good for the oldco and will be playing for a bigger EPL side than Everton before long. As for Goodwillie, has good pace but the touch of a rapist (allegedly) Laugh
