Luis Suarez has admitted that he dived in a bid to win a penalty for Liverpool against Stoke.

Suarez hit the headlines earlier this season when he attempted an audacious double dive against the Potters during their goalless draw with the Reds at Anfield in October.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny branded the Uruguayan a cheat on the back of the incident, which reignited the debate on players diving in the Premier League.

But in an interview aired in Argentina today, Suarez came clean about his actions during the stalemate with Tony Pulis's side, insisting that he embarked on simulation in order to win but also alleged that he has also become the subject of unfair treatment from the media.

He said: "I don't listen all the nonsense some people say about me. I'm accused of cheating here. People say I throw myself all the time inside the box.

"Let's see, they said that when we played against Stoke, for instance, and in that case they were right. I invented a foul because we were drawing 0-0 against Stoke and I wanted to win.

"Sometimes on the pitch I say to myself 'what have I done?' But the name of Suarez sells papers.

"The other day, for instance, I touched the ball with my hand accidentally, and I was criticised because I kissed my hand. The media make up a lot of things about me because they want to sell papers. I say to the media: you should talk more about football, not about other stuff."

Liverpool are currently reaping the rewards of an in-form Suarez, who has now scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, but it has not been without controversy, after he handled the ball when scoring the winning goal in their FA Cup win over Mansfield earlier this month.

And the 25-year-old feels that he and his fellow South Americans are targeted in the English top flight due to what he has again claimed is Manchester United's controlling of the media.

'When someone comes and says to me something bad about being a South American, I don't cry, because that happens inside the pitch. I have my conscience clean. But as I have said: Manchester United controls the media, they are powerful and the media will always help them," he added.

"I can help Liverpool today. We are united and we can play well. Liverpool doesn't depend on me. It's complicated to play here in England.

"As Carlitos (Carlos Tevez) and Kun (Sergio Aguero) has said, it's complicated for a South American footballer to be here as we are treated differently to the local footballers.

"But they have their culture, they are like this, you know. I have to play football, which is what I always wanted, but I have suffered a lot for being a footballer."

Apart from the fa, utd and evra stating he wasn't a racist - can you show me the evidence that he is a racist please m-l. Your name is obv taking the p as otherwise it is surprising that you let yourself be so easily led and believe what you read in the press and don't form your own opinion from all the evidence! Was the foul Scholes inflicted late last night any less of a cheat than a dive - 'no' to anybody that vaguely understands the modern game 'yes' to sheep who can't think for themselves.
Gary Linekar is/was feted over here as a supreme sportsman, no yellow blah blah and a jolly good fellow - in most of africa (esp cameroon) he is known as a cheat and the q final from 1990 is called 'the game where Linekar dived'. The dive is never mentioned over here as we all know that Englishmen don't dive........

Where to start???

So you forget about Gerrard getting loads of stick for diving (his Sheff Utd 'heels behind ears when not touched' especially springs to mind)?

You say to critise Suarez is based on racism. Out of everyone on this thread there is only one person mentioning anything to do with race. Only one person mentioning he is foreign. That will be the person who notices the difference in colour/race, and uses it to make a point.

In my world, that is the real racism.

Not really - that quote relates to Suarez being the cheat, racist, toerag.

What I can't take is somebody saying I (and anyone else) must be a racist because we say bad things about somebody else who happens to be not white.

It is usually an admission by the user that they have no other argument, so bring race into the mix (which is exactly what racists do as well).

ITV build their football coverage around United for commercial reasons, and make sure they don't upset anyone at the club. Sky and Rupert Murdoch have formed an embedded coalition with them. Many people in football know the score but are powerless to do anything about it. Fans complain about it but are accused of conjuring up paranoid conspiracy theories. Suarez, like many outside this country are aware of the corroding bias pervading our game. When Rafa refers to this it gets labelled a rant, when Martinez at Wigan pointed out Fergie's abuse of his seniority he had to quickly retract or face the  wrath of the Evil Empire, when Fergie reminded Pardew about the debt owed we get an insight into the machiavellian activities he's employed down the years with football relationships. so much cobblers spouted about this.
the facts are;

suarez dived, not the first to do it, wont be the last, got a bit of previous, but from what i've seen he's not as bad as he was.

his manager [the same as most prem managers do] tried to "muddy the waters" and "protect" his player and club.

suarez then admits he dived and slightly undermines his manager who feels the player has dropped him in it and therefore gets the 'ump.

all the rest is playground stuff, and quite frankly for roy to say that in the blink of an eye a premiership footballer should be able to weigh up the pros and cons of a pr move is ridiculous.

especially as if the referee did disallow the goal he would actually have been wrong in law strictly speaking.
