Anyone else ever gone through a period of having absolutely no confidence in your own assessment of where and when to bet? I've had this for nearly a week now. Not lost much but turning into a complete bottle job. Any advice fellow betfairians?

How is your BR management? Could be a result of over-staking. With a decent staking plan, you shouldn't care whether an individual bet wins/loses. If you have proven yourself to have an edge over the long-term, you have nothing to worry about. Just reflect on your overall winrate, and feel confident that you are a long-term winner. If this is the case, read up some probability theory, lots of people underestimate the kinds of losing streaks that are not only possible, but very likely. Hope that helps!

Excellent post bkkboy. Reg, if you're a long-term winner you'll be fine. I've had some horrendous runs in 15 years of betting where I felt I could  stop a train at times. However, my bank never dipped below 55% and you would not believe the "luck" I had during that particular run. I was almost scared to place a bet towards the end of my worst run. However, things always turn if you stick to what you've always done and experience tells me never to worry too much about losing runs nowadays. I know how you will feel at the moment but trust me it will come right.

Ever think and assess something from a betting perspective and just do the complete opposite simply because you've no bottle or on a bad run??

To OP: Yes I have. I had no confidence to the extent I completely scaled back my stakes, sometimes to the £2 minimum.

in a bad run myself, its sometimes good to walk away completely for a while but if you can't do that reduce stakes and number of events you bet on. Also take an honest look at what you are doing - I know I am spending less time researching than usual and that hits bottom line - not talking about anything too esoteric but you should be aware of suspensions, injuries, current form etc - surprising how easy it is to neglect the basics after a long good run
