So 8 hours later and still no information on what caused last nights debacle.  I find it strange that they have to shut down next week for maintenance and that occurred last night.  I also find it very strange that it occured at the exact moment the equalising goal went in in the Newcastle game.  I work in IT and I know concindences are not coincidences unless there is a reason for something occurring at a certain time

A "strange coincidence", to use a phrase
By which such things are settled nowadays.

it only cost me a few pounds as I tried their new cash out option that they push non stop.

I tried several times to cash out of a bet that in the end I decided wasn't too clever but it wouldn't let me.

after a few attempts I let it ride and I almost won in the end. (don't think I get anything for almost)

it was still a hell of a time for their site to stop working just towards the end of the matches when folk were trying to consolidate their bets.

We’d like to apologise again for the site problems many of you experienced on the evening of Thursday 22nd November 2012. Here is an explanation of the issues that caused these problems.

The site issues commenced at 21:37 GMT. Sports betting services were restored at 23:42 GMT. Poker was made available again at 23:51 GMT, followed by Arcade at 00:33 GMT and Casino at 00:41 on Friday 23 November 2012.

Our technical team have reviewed the situation and confirmed a hardware fault caused an automated failover of our core database servers. This failover protects our customer’s data but it means that we had to take down the entire site and all products so that all of our applications could be tested to confirm they were running properly. Once this was complete we restored services as soon as we possibly could. Further investigation and review will continue today and if there is more information we will update you here.

We know this service is unacceptable and we are sorry that the timing was particularly unfortunate as we reached the closing stages of the Europa League group games. The reliability and performance of our products is extremely important to us and we’ll continue to make every effort to deliver the service our customers expect.

We’ll be reviewing the situation of customers betting in-play last night and we appreciate that some of you may have been directly affected. We’ll provide a further update for those affected later today.

I can't believe that such a big company as betfair has no back-up hardware for such situations.
Report kellydamo November 23, 2012 9:50 AM GMT
I am with you alex, if there is a hardware failure then it should failover and services will continue to run without incident.  I cannot see how they had a hardware failure that had a single point of failure and think that their T&C's cannot really cover this
Report kellydamo November 23, 2012 9:52 AM GMT
By the way if it was a automated failover as that says then there should have been no downtime

Well now it gets interesting, they have removed our responses from the Service outage thread and locked the thread and I just got an email telling me it was a database error not a hardware failure, a bit conveinient when we have pointed out the single point of failure?

I can't believe this! Betfair you are seriously cheating here! I have a screenshot of the thread with our replies there. A little later they have removed them. Unfortunately only the first reply is visible.

kellydamo, can you post again your reply from the Service outage thread here?
Report kellydamo November 23, 2012 11:04 AM GMT
I have reviewed your statement on the forum for the service outage and I have copied your statement,  if there is a hardware failure then it should failover and services will continue to run without incident, there would be no requirement for the site to be taken down.  I cannot see how a hardware failure that has a single point of failure should exist and you are therefore not protecting me as a customer.  I work in IT and have done disater recovery for years and am not buying this. I dont see how your T&C's can exempt you here when you have a responsibility to us as the customer.

Hello All,

Sorry your replies were removed from the outage posting in Service. That forum is supposed to be for announcements only and not discussion, and forum users aren't supposed to be able to post on threads in there. So there was obviously an error that allowed you to post there which has been hoghlighted to our forum software bods. Please continue to provide feedback here and in the Site Feedback forum and I'll make sure I point the right people in it's direction.

Being unable to lay off liability on Liverpool after they go 2-1 up with about 15 or 20mins to go. Obviously the young boys equalize, which was inevitable once the site went down. Betfair can see the attempts to try and  cash-out or lay so I hope this gets sorted asap.
not acceptable
